23.01.2022 Alongside many other churches around the world, St Mary's Cathedral was lit in red last night to mark Red Wednesday following a Mass celebrated by Dean Fr Don R...ichardson. This annual initiative of the charity, Aid to the Church In Need (ACN) on 25 November, helps raise awareness about the persecution of Christians around the world. ACN has this year focused its attention on the plight of Christians who are kidnapped or unjustly imprisoned because of their faith. As our cathedral is bathed in the blood of martyrs, we stand with the oppressed, acknowledging that we can often take freedom to practice our faith in safety too much for granted in Australia- a freedom denied to many of our fellow Christians around the world.

23.01.2022 Friends, there is still time to speak up for religious freedom in NSW, telling MPs that people of faith want to receive the same protections under anti-discrimi...nation law as everyone else. If you havent done so already, please register your support for the Anti-Discrimination Amendment (Religious Freedoms and Equality) Bill 2020 by clicking here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/F8KFWXB and saying you support the bill. You are asked to write your own thoughts in the form, but this does need not be lengthy. It is sufficient to let our MPs know that religious freedom is important to you, and that people of faith in NSW are not asking for special treatment; we are asking for equal treatment. Submissions close this Friday, 21 August so please make your submission now!

18.01.2022 Friends, like the first disciples, some of us are worshippers, some doubters, some a bit of both. But like them, we need to draw close to Jesus if our doubts ar...e to be dispelled. I ask for your ongoing prayers as we prepare to launch a new Archdiocesan mission plan on 12 December, Go Make Disciples, focused on making our parishes true centres of the new evangelisation. St Declan’s Catholic Church in Penshurst is a great role model in this mission. Watch a short video below where St Declan’s parishioner, Gordon Kondo shares his testimony, explaining how his faith journey has changed through nurturing a personal relationship with Christ. You’ll find more testimonies from across our Archdiocese and information about Go Make Disciples here on our new website: gomakedisciples.org.au Our Lady of Guadalupe, Star of the New Evangelisation, pray for us! #GMDSydney #GoMakeDisciples

17.01.2022 Friends, St Paul VI once reminded us: St Joseph is a model of those humble ones that Christianity raises up to great destinies, the proof that ordinary people... are by God’s grace capable of extraordinary things. From St Joseph we learn humility, trust and perseverance and that no mission is so big, no danger so grave, that they cannot be embraced as long as we have the support of God. To help draw upon that inspiration, I invite you to participate in the 33 Day Consecration to St Joseph which commences this Friday 6 November, led by Life, Marriage & Family Office in the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney This Consecration commemorates the 150th anniversary of St Joseph being proclaimed the Patron and Protector of the Universal Church. Registrants will receive a daily 3-5 minute video reflection on the life, virtues, and special patronage of St Joseph, honouring this great saint who was entrusted with the lives of both Jesus and His Blessed Mother! Find out more information and register online here: https://forms.gle/73cFs2uArDpBSG6W8 In an age when many are struggling amid the current COVID-19 pandemic, may we all turn to St Joseph as our model and guide. St Joseph, pray for us!

16.01.2022 This weekend we are holding our annual Priests Retirement Fund Appeal and I ask you to donate generously if you can. Our priests donate so much of their time ...to their ministry and its important to support them in their retirement. 16.01.2022 In today’s Gospel, we are reminded of God’s call for us to experience all reality through the lens of love and respond from a loving heart. We have to embody in... ourselves the love of God and neighbour. To love God with our whole being has consequences not just in the first tablet of the Law- the life of knowing and worshipping God- but in the second tablet- the life of respecting and serving humanity. When a person is loved, St Thomas Aquinas observed, God is loved also, for we are the image of God. If you're unable to attend Mass in person due to COVID 19 restrictions , I invite you to join me for a livestreamed Mass at 10:30am from St Mary's Cathedral here:https://bit.ly/3dRIsSh My ongoing prayers are with you all.

16.01.2022 Friends, the wonderful work of our catechists bringing young Catholics in public schools to faith through a personal encounter with Christ, enriching their mind...s and hearts with His Good News is sadly coming under increasing attack. The NSW Teachers Federation, the NSW Primary Principals Association and the NSW Secondary Principals Council are calling for Special Religious Education to be removed from public school timetables to simplify what they regard as a crowded curriculum. I urge you to write to your state MP to voice your concerns. There are millions of examples of the great work catechists have done over many generations in public schools and the profound impact they have on the lives of young people. It is an integral part of NSW Public Education and we must fight hard to preserve it. Read more here: https://bit.ly/3muRiIP

15.01.2022 Friends, I would like to share with you my homily from yesterday’s Solemn Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral where we welcomed several adults into the Church through t...he sacrament of Confirmation. In my homily, I reflect upon the key message in the Gospel reading on the commandments to love God and love ones neighbour as oneself. You are Fratelli Tutti, all sisters and brothers, all in this together. So care for the widow and orphan, the poor and vulnerable, the voiceless and disappeared. Our love-our voices- should make them seen and heard, make them neighbours we love as ourselves. Read my full homily here: shorturl.at/ackGM

15.01.2022 Today Jesus indicates He knew He would suffer for the redemption of the world and that His followers were unlikely to be exempt from persecution too. True disci...ples accept the crosses when they come and turn them into acts of discipleship for which they will be rewarded. They would rather lose their life than their soul. Jesus, the Master of our lives, is also our model. It is through lives of authentic witness to Christ in worship, teaching and service that we can draw back those we miss and reach out yet to find a spiritual home. Under COVID-19 restrictions, attendance is limited to 100 people at Masses this weekend. If youre unable to attend Mass in person, I invite you to join me for the 1030am Mass from St Marys Cathedral livestreamed here: https://bit.ly/3jmxy8v God bless you all.

13.01.2022 Marxist groups are urging the burning of priests in Spain on Twitter - and the social media platform is allowing them to do it, ignoring its own policy on hate speech at the same time. See story here - https://bit.ly/3o3MMSt

13.01.2022 Friends, many of you have been writing to me with questions about a COVID-19 vaccine. This weeks announcement that a Letter of Intent has been signed between o...ur government and AstraZeneca for a vaccine raises some important ethical questions because the vaccine in question makes use of a cell line cultured from an electively aborted human foetus. Whether this vaccine is successful or not, it is important that the government does not create an ethical dilemma for people. Along with the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney and the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Australia, I have written to the Prime Minister Scott Morrison, asking the government to pursue similar arrangements for alternate vaccines that do not raise the same ethical concerns, so that Australians will have a choice when it comes to vaccination. There are currently 167 vaccines being researched, many of which do not use foetal cells in their development. It is in the best interests of the community that vaccination is widely taken up and this deadly disease defeated, and this will better be achieved if the vaccines available do not create an ethical quandary. Ill have more to say on this in next weeks Catholic Weekly. In the interim, you might like to make your desire for an ethical vaccine known to your local MP.

07.01.2022 PRAYERS REQUESTED We ask the parish to please keep in their prayers one of our OLMC Parish Primary School students, Perlita Huon in 3 Gold. Perlita has recently... undergone a second lot of surgery for a tumour on her brain. 07.01.2022 THE REOPENING OF OUR CHURCH Dear OLMC Parishioners, NSW Health has advised that we can now safely open our church which was closed after a parishioner who atten...ded the 7:30am Mass on Sunday 19th July, tested positive for COVID-19. Once our parish was advised of the situation, a deep clean was ordered and was carried out on Friday 24th July and our church has now met all the requirements of NSW Healh to reopen again. Masses will resume on Thursday 30th July at 9:15am. Parishioners who attended the 7:30am Mass on Sunday 19th July must undertake a COVID-19 test and continue to self-isolate for 14 days after the Mas (until Sunday 2nd August) even if the result of your COVID-19 test is negative. If symptoms develop over your period in self-isolation, you must get tested again. NSW Health has advised that the person who tested positive to COVID-19, left the Mass when it finished and did not interact with any parishioners. A list of names and telephone numbers of people who attended the church and chapel during the 7:30am Mass has been supplied to NSW Health. Thank you for your patience at this time as the health of our parishioners is our utmost concern. God Bless, Fr Anthony Fregolent CS Read more on our website below:

The lights will be displayed every night from 10 December until Christmas Day.

06.01.2022 Todays Solemnity of the Assumption celebrates the first Christian body to enjoy glory. Mary, the Mother of Jesus, is called by Him to be with Him forever. May ...we live this bodily life with the faith and love as Mary did, so that we join her in that yet more glorious life with Christ and all His Saints. O Blessed Virgin Mary, assumed into heaven body and soul, pray for us! See more

05.01.2022 Why coming back to Mass matters.

04.01.2022 Today on All Souls Day, we are reminded as Catholics of the importance of interceding for each other, including for those who have gone before us, marked with t...he sign of faith. Our prayers and sufferings offered for the holy souls quicken the process of them being readied for heaven. The month of November is traditionally a time to pray for the faithful who have died and I invite you to share any prayer intentions below and I will keep your departed family and friends in my prayers this month. God bless you all.

04.01.2022 I would like to pay tribute to former NSW Premier John Fahey after the sad news of his death at the age of 75. Just last November, I presented Mr Fahey with the... Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Gregory the Great in recognition of his great service to the Catholic Church, as Chancellor of the Australian Catholic University and to state and federal politics where he promoted a pro-life message on abortion and euthanasia. He was a man of strong faith, devoted to his family and my prayers are with his wife Colleen, his children Matthew and Melanie and grandchildren Campbell and Amber whom John and Colleen raised after the tragic death of their daughter Tiffany in a car accident. He will be sadly missed. May he rest in peace. A state funeral for John Fahey will be held at St Marys Cathedral on a date to be confirmed. 04.01.2022 A number of media outlets have misrepresented comments I have made about a potential COVID1-19 vaccine. I have not, nor would I, call for Catholics to boycott t...he vaccine if it became available. What I did was join with other faith leaders to ask the Prime Minister to, in addition to the agreement made with AstraZeneca, pursue arrangements for other vaccines and not just limit themselves to one, which some in our community will find ethically concerning. It is in all our interests that a vaccine is widely taken up, and so it is deeply disappointing that my words werent reported accurately or fairly. If we are indeed all in this together, then we need to ensure that legitimate concerns raised are not exaggerated. You can read my thoughts online at the Catholic Weekly: https://www.catholicweekly.com.au/archbishop-fisher-op-let/

02.01.2022 My prayers are very much with the people of the Philippines with close to one million families impacted by three deadly typhoons in the country in the past mont...h. I pray that through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, that Our Lord may offer comfort and hope to all those affected by these natural disasters in our near neighbour. Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us! If you’re able to do so, I encourage you to support Caritas Australia’s appeal efforts to help rebuild struggling communities in the Philippines.
