20.01.2022 Day and night confusion/ This is so frustrating for many parents with a newborn. If only they came out of our tummies knowing that nighttime is for sleeping. Your newborn will wake frequently for feeds during the night and may feel like your littlie has his day and night reversed but dont worry this is very normal and it WILL PASS. ... 3 helpful tips on how to gently encourage more nighttime sleep for newborns: Keep your newborn awake for brief periods during the day. Daylight exposure- primary thing to help set our internal clock. Keep lights dim during the evening hours and free of stimulation. Please note: Its NEVER a good idea to withhold feeds from a newborn to encorouge them to sleep longer.

20.01.2022 Newborn day and night mix ups Does your newborn sleep like an angel whilst the sun is out, but throws a party as soon as night falls? The reason for this is due to the underdeveloped circadian rhythm known as Our bodies natural body clock. It generally takes 2-3 months for a baby to develop a good circadian rhythm. Its important to help your baby develops a strong circadian rhythm by: Showing that daytime is for play and night is for sleep. ... Lights must be dim or off at night and good exposure to sunlight during the day. Nurse before bedtime. Towards the end of the day a mothers breast milk contains high levels of tryptophan. This helps aid the body to produce melatonin helping your baby fall asleep and stay asleep for longer. Formula fee babies are encouraged to have that last feed before bedtime in a dark quiet room. If you use these tips to help promote a strong circadian rhythm in your baby from early on, getting him into a good schedule and eventually teaching independent sleep will be much easier with these strong foundations. 20.01.2022 The days and weeks go by so quickly. Cherish every single day as the every day struggle will become fond memories in the not so distant future

19.01.2022 Its getting CHILLY out there! Our room temperatures drop dramatically in the middle of the night, this can cause multiple night wakings for a cold littlie. Putting an extra layer on example a long sleeve singlet under a onesie and a warmer sleeping bag 2.5-3 tog can be all it takes to eliminate those night wakings. Tip is to ensure all bedding and blankets are cotton/bamboo fabric including your babies sleeping bag and clothing this will allow your baby to breath through the layers and control their body temperature. 09.01.2022 The most common reasons why babies wake up at night. Using sleep props. A baby will go off to sleep usually very well when using a sleep prop but is also is the most common reason why they wake up multiple times a night too. Here are some forms of sleep props: ~ Feeding to sleep... ~ Rocking/swaying to sleep ~ Using a dummy if your baby is dependent on it ~ Needing to fall asleep on parent because its the only way they know how to If your baby relies on any of the above to fall asleep, and needs them when waking up at night, then its is considered a sleep prop or sleep association. You will likely be experiencing multiple wake ups from your little one. Do you want to know how to stop this and allow your baby to have the required amount of sleep according to their age? then heres what you can do to encourage good sleep habits. 1. Lay your baby down awake BUT ready for sleep 2. No sleep props for ALL naps/sleep 3. Swaddle if not yet rolling 4. Use 100% cotton blankets, sheets, pjs, sleeping bags ect I specialize in helping little ones and the not so little one who havent quite figured this whole sleep thing out yet.... feel free to contact me to find out how I can help. www.ourlittlies.com.au
