23.01.2022 I'm happy to confirm that I will represent our Division 2 community as an elected member with the Sunshine Coast Council for the next four years. I'd like to acknowledge the hard work of all the other candidates - for many of us it was our first campaign and we all had to learn to adapt quickly as circumstances changed with the impact of Coronavirus. It’s also important for me to thank the people who supported me - my small but valued team of supporters including my wife Nikk...i, former deputy Mayor Don Smith and retired local school principal Col O'Brien - and the many people in our community who spent time with me throughout our campaign. The time, effort and feedback each person has contributed has made the difference and helped me reach this point. With the impact of Coronavirus to be felt across the community in the months and years ahead, I plan to commit to focus on council's core services first and foremost. I will be also advocating for our council to play a key role in supporting the small business community into the future. I’ve been a sole trader for decades - so I truly understand the importance of small business in our community. I’ll be advocating for our council to allocate its resources wisely and to find ways to build our community and economic recovery from the pandemic. Our incoming council will face a range of challenges and opportunities and a steep learning curve. We will have to hit the ground running - but in a constantly shifting environment. This is where fresh perspectives and new ways of thinking and doing will help us weather this crisis. I am looking forward to supporting you all for the next four years.

23.01.2022 This time last week voters were taking their last opportunity to determine who will represent them as the Division 2 Councillor on the Sunshine Coast. Since then , the past week has been a challenge for us all - with increasing restrictions affecting our businesses and our families. At the same time, many people have taken time out of their days to check in and show their support - so thank you. It seems we will have to wait for a few more days to have an outcome from the E...lectoral Commission. My understanding has been that this was the most challenging and unusual local government election that anyone can remember. The impact of Coronavirus meant the goal posts were constantly changing - across pre polling, early voting options, polling day and of course the counting of the votes. The confusion and uncertainty in our community may go on for some time - which means its more important than ever for our grass roots level of government to be led by a team of councillors who are experienced in business and community, who are community focused and who are agile and able to find new solutions for the new world that we live in. Again - thank you everyone for your support. When we have an outcome I will again let you all know. Terry

18.01.2022 Tomorrow marks the final day of our campaign for the Sunshine Coast 2020 local government elections. Thank you to all who have supported this process - in particular as we are in such unusual and stressful circumstances. Whatever the outcome I will always be here to support our community. Please stay in touch everyone.... Terry

15.01.2022 Yesterday Scott Sawyer from the Sunshine Coast Daily asked me to share my thoughts about the next four years and the council's priorities. I told him that I am looking forward to working in collaboration with all councillors to support our community during and beyond this crisis I committed to considering each issue, item or proposal on its individual merits. I will consider all information and my position will reflect what I believe is the best outcome for our division and... the whole of the Sunshine Coast. The status of our major projects is one issue that Scott raised and I think it's important not to make an adhoc commitment without all the relevant information. The council is working across a number of major projects and as incoming councillors we have a responsibility to consider all information before making a decision. We also need to remember that many of these major projects are designed to future-proof our region and are also driving employment and business activity for local businesses - any decision the council makes I am sure will also have these considerations as top of mind. Our council is one of the largest employers on the Coast and as a very large business we have many committed and hard working staff. Securing a new CEO is an important task to help our staff and council deliver our services and support our community beyond the impact of COVID-19. I recognise that our small businesses are the backbone of our community and that for our community to recover from the impact of COVID-19 the council needs to take a leading role. I would like to see that we do have a focus on supporting our small business community - after all we have one of the highest rates of self employment in Australia. For our community to recover small business has to recover. Some options for our council in supporting small business may include cutting red tape, supporting local businesses in preferred supplier arrangements, and ensuring primary contractors pay subcontractors on time. That said, there is one major priority that our council needs to place urgent attention to. Over the next two months our councillors will have to vote on the 2020 - 2021 budget. Given current circumstances many aspects of the budget will now have to be reviewed - some priorities may need to shift in order to make way for others to help our council lead the recovery process.
