24.01.2022 There is no one giant step that does it, its a lot of little steps. Peter A Cohen Its not unusual to feel like big changes happen when you take big steps. And yet most change is a culmination of many smaller steps. The key to making change happen is to start - dont be afraid to take the first step; dont procrastinate; look for the smallest viable thing you can do to move yourself forward to persist - keep going; push through the inevitable dip in motivation; ke...ep your eye on the goal; keep finding the next small thing that will live you forward What step will you take today to move you closer to achieving your goals? #makingchangehappen

23.01.2022 The power of the pause in #navigatingchange

23.01.2022 We don't have to do all of it alone. We were never meant to. Brené Brown Find the others. The others who are there in your corner for support and encouragement. ... The others who can be a guiding light to find the right way. The others who help you to level up your skills and capability. The others who are your loudest cheerleaders. In our work, and our life, we definitely go further when we surround ourselves with our others. Have you found the others? #makingchangehappen

23.01.2022 What we do every day matters more that what we do once in a while. Gretchen Rubin Creating daily habits helps us progress our goals. That's part of the reason why this year I've joined the #nanowrimo2019 challenge. Although I already write every day, some days it is a short post or journal entry. The challenge to write 50,000 words during November requires me to really dig deep into my writing and go that extra mile.... It's day 4 and I've clocked up over 6,000 words already. I'm amazed at how much easier the words are flowing on to the page. What daily habit might you create? What might you do to give yourself some external accountability or motivation to keep showing up each day? #makingchangehappen See more

22.01.2022 It seems such a common sense statement and yet in practice we often seem to forget that growth is change. I often wonder why we are so happy to celebrate such big changes and growth in children, only to resist big changes and growth when we're older. How can we adopt the joy and wonder we give to a child who is learning to walk, ride a bike or settle into a new school?... Next time you find yourself anxious or resisting some change in your life, think of that child. And remember that change is growth. And growth is change. #makingchangehappen See more

21.01.2022 Struggling to make a change in your work and life? It's time to choose hope. Hope is often considered not much more than a positive, feel-good emotion. Yet, when we look at the psychology of hope, it becomes so much more powerful for making change happen. ... Hope is like oxygen. It's what keeps us alive. It's what sustains us when we are running the marathon of change. Like a deep breath in, hope provides energy and allows us to look at every moment as a new possibility. Hope provides us with the will to pursue change. When it feels like a struggle, when it feels hopeless, it is the time to choose hope. Agree? #makingchangehappen

20.01.2022 Start again. Why not? Its as good a time as any. Ive had so many people say that theyve already failed their new year goals. They feel like giving up. I wonder why? Failure. It is such a loaded word. ... What if you consider your 2020 goal(s) in a different way? What if you saw success in that this year you have actually set yourself a goal to change something in your life? (Many people don't!) What if you saw success in what you have already achieved during the first month of this year? What if you let go of the disappointment of not having started yet? Start again! How can you adjust your goal, or your expectations about your goal, to give you a greater chance of success? What improvements can you make to your process? What can you let go of to give you more time, energy etc towards your goal? What if you said: I still want to achieve my 2020 goal(s). I will start again. #makingchangehapppen

19.01.2022 We see this both with expectations for ourselves and others If we expect it to be a bad day, it is bound to be a bad day. After all, we will go through the day confirming our expectations with anything that serves to back it up. Spill your coffee See, I knew this was going to be a bad day. On the flip side, if you start the day with the expectation that it is going to be a great day, then you will have a totally different response to the coffee spill. Nothing c...an spoil your feeling that it is a great day. With others, if we always expect our team member to let us down, we will always find a reason to be let down by them. And we will change the way we interact with them to such an extent that we are likely to reinforce the ways in which they let us down. How we think about things is so important. Our thinking is at the heart of our behaviour. How can you change your expectations and, as a result, change your outcomes? #makingchangehappen See more

19.01.2022 Change might not be fast and it isn't always easy. But with time and effort almost any habit can be reshaped. Charles Duhigg As this quote says, change isn't easy or fast. But it is possible. 1Identify what habit you want to reshape [exercise]... 2Envision the outcome [feeling fit; able to run 5k] 3What is the smallest viable action you can take? [put your clothes & runners next to the bed at night; set your alarm earlier] 4Start [even with just 5 minutes] 5Support yourself [get an accountability buddy; build in reflection and reward; monitor your progress; be kind to yourself] 6Keep going [expect a dip in motivation; get a nudge from others; start again if need be] Change isn't always easy or fast. But you can do it #makingchangehappen See more

19.01.2022 Note to self: it's a new week. Time to start afresh. The beginning of a new week is a great time to start again. It is motivating to hit reset on that 2021 goal or project. Especially when you feel like you're getting behind. The psychological principle of the "fresh start effect" suggests transition points are an effective way of starting again. It allows us to "wipe the slate clean" from any past behaviours and achievements (or non-achievements).... What are you going to start afresh with this coming week? #makingchangehappen

18.01.2022 Practice isn't the thing you do once you're good. It's the thing you do that makes you good. Malcolm Gladwell Do you have a consistent practice I have many - and writing is a major one ... Every day, I write: Morning pages - a daily page of musing and reflection Daily blog post on medium.com [search for Drip by Drip] Content for my upcoming book Every week, I write: A weekly article for my blogging group A creative piece for my other writing group I cannot be a good writer unless I write. Practicing every day, every week, every month enables me to master my craft, and to continually stoke the writing fires with new ideas and content. Whatever your thing is, practice, practice, practice. #makingchangehappen #writerslife

18.01.2022 Fill in the blank I will never take ______________ for granted again. ... Some of mine are: Coffee meetings. At a coffee shop! Going out to work with people irl Fast internet. Dropping over to see my parents. Having the house to myself. And more. It doesnt make us ungrateful when we take things for granted. Its a natural human instinct, especially those seemingly everlasting things that we could never foresee changing. As the song goes, Dont it always seem to go. That you dont know what youve got til its gone. I wonder, what are you moving from the taken for granted to grateful for bucket? #gratitude #positivemindset #change #humanbehaviour

18.01.2022 Ain't that the truth If I had to give 2020 a word, so far, I'd have to say CONNECTION In the first 2 months of this year I have made so many connections. Some have been deliberate - reaching out to new people and opportunities. Some have been a natural widening of my circle - we all know someone who knows someone who knows someone... And then some have been delightfully unintentional - a series of random (or not so random) actions that have led me to meeting someone new.... The common factor in all of this has been the opportunity to find more like-minded people who are passionate about making change happen in their own work and lives I love communicating with new people, about new ideas and new knowledge. I love hearing unique stories and and how someone's journey has led them to be talking with me. What connections are you making this year? #makingchangehappen

17.01.2022 You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine. John C Maxwell Have you’ve lost all track of what day it is, ... what time it is, what you should be doing right now Or you get to the end of a day and think, I forgot to ... ? Our stay at home lives can be tricky to navigate right now, that’s for sure. 16.01.2022 New on the blog ... somersaults, swimming and comfort zones

16.01.2022 Today there is a spring in my step. Although its not a very Spring-like start to Spring here in Perth, it is always nice to mark the beginning of a new season. As Brenda Poole writes in her poem, seasons come and go. There is a comfort to be had from this impermanence. Things are always changing, and we are simply a part of that constant change.... For many of us, letting go of our need for control is a lifetimes pursuit. Connecting with the ever-changing natural world around us helps with the letting go, acceptance of what is, and to make the most of the present moment.

16.01.2022 Learning to trust yourself isn't easy, but it's worth it. Talk of trust is everywhere. There’s the importance of trust in our workplace cultures, our business relationships, as a consumer, and in our personal relationships. We are asked to trust the process, trust our boss, trust the plan, trust the journey. To develop such trust, we need to first trust our self.... Trusting yourself happens when you: 1 Listen closely for the true signs of what you need and want; 2 Feel all the feels experience and sit with the comfort, discomfort, excitement, worry & fear; 3 Allow yourself to wonder what is possible; and 4 Take a step (or a leap) towards possibility. It’s not always easy but when the supportive voice deep inside of you is the loudest one you hear, you are on the way to trusting yourself. That voice comes from a deep place of knowing, that you have your best interests at heart, that the decision you make is the best one you can at this time, that if it doesn’t work, you are doing your best, and you can try again. If you want to step into change, you need that voice to guide you. You need to trust yourself. #makingchangehappen

16.01.2022 http:// MONDAY MOTIVATION // I love this Pema Chodron quote - it is perfect for the start of the week. Or anytime, for that matter. This moment, yes, right now as you read this might be your perfect opportunity for a new start. ... Are you willing to take it? #makingchangehappen

15.01.2022 Every great move forward in your life begins with a leap of faith, a step into the unknown. Brian Tracy A leap of faith can feel scary What if it doesnt work? A question I have been asked many times. A question worth asking. ... The reality is that it might not work. Whatever 'it' may be. The change we are seeking to make may not result in what we are expecting, wanting, or needing. For more reasons than we can even anticipate, it may not work. But (yes, theres always a but), what if it does work? The possibility that it may not work need not deter us from taking that leap. As the wise Yoda reminds us, do or do not When we leap, we discover what aspects will work, what things we need to adapt and what we need to abandon. If we do not, we will never know. What leap can you take this week? #makingchangehappen

14.01.2022 Life has many ways of testing a person's will, either by having nothing happen at all or by having everything happen at once. Paulo Coelho Oh, I know this feeling well. It is for this reason that adaptability is a crucial quality for all of us in work and life. The ability to go with the ebb and flow of life. To know that sometimes it is all happening at once and the best we can do is survive until the calm comes again. Or to make the most of the downtime so tha...t we regain our energy for when it turns crazy again. #makingchangehappen See more

14.01.2022 I love this quote. Perhaps because I am an eternal enthusiast and optimist. I received this comment this week "Regardless of what you say, your relentless positivity is in itself quite the inspiration." Walking the line between positivity and pollyanna-ish is sometimes tricky. I'm a true believer in positivity breeding positivity so I'll continue to do my best to bring that to the world through my words and my work.... How are you bringing enthusiasm to your work today? #makingchangehappen

13.01.2022 Change can make us anxious and stressed. It's a natural human response to be concerned when things are uncertain or changing. Especially when things change quickly or are forced upon us. When we feel ourselves getting anxious about a change, we need to find a pathway back to calm.... We can trick our bodies into feeling calm by taking some slow, deep breaths. Breathe in .... breathe out... repeat often. A calm mind and body can adapt to change much better than a stressed out one. And, breathe ... #navigatingchange

13.01.2022 Evolution has taught us that it is the most adaptable who will survive. In our ever-changing world, adaptability is something we all need to survive and thrive. 13.01.2022 Be brave Having the conversations that matter is critical in our work, and in all parts of life. It can be scary We can procrastinate about it or avoid it completely. We may bring the wrong energy to the conversation and it can be doomed from the beginning.... I've found the following helps to get me in the right mindset for an important conversation: do something positive before the conversation - anything that gets me feeling happy, relaxed and less stressed do a quick meditation or at least, I take some deep breaths before I start talking write myself some notes of the main things I want to say sometimes giving the other person (or people) a heads up on the conversation helps make sure I have set aside time, with no interruptions and I find a nice environment in which to have the conversation Having important conversations is part of making changes in your work and life. Be brave #makingchangehappen

12.01.2022 Sometimes a change of perspective is all it takes to see the light. Dan Brown We can mull over problems for a long time and then, seemingly from nowhere a solution appears. That tiny shift in perspective can allow us to see or understand something we didn't before.... When I'm feeling particularly stuck, I deliberately change my perspective, such as visualise what 'unstuck' looks like & think about solutions talk to someone with different views, or thinking, to me change my environment, like going for a walk to think through things Looping through the same thought process tends to send us in a downward spiral. What do you do to see things differently? #makingchagnehappen

12.01.2022 What to do when you hit that wall in the middle of your working week? Refresh - take a break Reflect - celebrate what you have already achieved this week... Recalibrate - revisit your priorities and to-do list It's called Hump day for a reason, but with a quick reset we can change the I THINK I CAN feeling to an I KNOW I CAN action. #makingchangehappen

06.01.2022 Do you start the day with intention? Do you bounce out of bed ready to tackle your day head on? I've always been a morning person and my energy is high in the morning. I switch on the second my feet touch the floor. I've worked with plenty of night owls who do struggle to be at their best at the beginning of a day. Despite that we've looked at ways that they can bring gratitude and their special kind of morning energy so that they too can begin their day on purpos...e. 06.01.2022 Reading furnishes the mind only with materials of knowledge; it is thinking that makes what we read ours. John Locke Do you have a daily habit of reading? As much as we can obtain our information in so many different forms these days, a reading habit does more than provide us with new knowledge and an opportunity to think. Reading requires us to be in the moment, mindful of what we are doing. We need to slow down to read - not skim, or surf. ... Reading helps us to connect dots, provides sparks of ideas and helps to connect us to another's experience and worldviews. This year I've been conscious not to let my daily reading habit slip, even on those days when I have a full calendar and am super tired. As a result, I can see a difference in my own writing and work. Go on, pick up a book and read #makingchangehappen

04.01.2022 It's so true that we each have our own perspective on things. Time is one of those things. We may all be here in the present, however, where our thinking resides can be a different matter. I read a story about a leader who spends 50% of their time thinking about the future. This sounds appropriate for a senior person with a strategic role. It got me thinking about how our personal thinking styles, the roles we are in, and even our stage in life, may drive us to have a differe...nt perspective on time. If you had to apportion your past, present and future focus, how much would be in each basket? How does this impact your work and life? How might you adjust it to serve you better? What about your team members, friends and family? How do we reconcile the differences? How do we find a way to accept others, or bring them along with our perspectives on time? #makingchangehappen

04.01.2022 We spend so much time looking for the big bang. For the big changes to magically happen. But we don't tend to just arrive somewhere new out of the blue. There are many small steps along the way. Delivering that killer presentation is the result of all the work you've done mastering your subject, practicing your craft and honing your message. ... Running that 10km fun run is the result of pounding the pavement every day (and especially on the days you didn't want to), fueling your body through good nutrition and sleep, and a thousand different stretches. Landing that new client is the result of countless hours developing your products and services, and building and nurturing relationships. So, focus on the little things. Consistently. 03.01.2022 As I walk down the main street of my city's business district, workplace festivities have commenced. People buzzing through decorated buildings and booked out restaurants. Leaving, if only for a little while, the thought of must do's, should do's and could do's. It can feel chaotic at this time of year as we feel the pressure to finish a year strong. To do ALL of those outstanding tasks that didn't seem so urgent last week. When it was still November. ... The pressure that might be coming from a boss, a client or yourself. Remind yourself that you can choose how you respond to the outer chaos. We can all choose inner calm and joy. Breathe in with frenzy and pressure ... and out with calm and joy. Rinse and repeat. #makingchangehappen See more

03.01.2022 Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe If you scrolled through social media for long enough it's easy to think that self-belief is in abundance It's not unusual for my clients to admit that they feel like they are the ONLY ones in the world who have any self-doubt. Of course, we all know that's not true. Get people talking about self-belief and we often hear of the dreaded imposter voice. T...hat voice most of us experience at one point or another. The voice fueling our self-doubt. Self-belief is vital if we are going to achieve the goals we set for ourself. A belief that we are capable of doing the things we set out to. A belief that we have skills, talents and ideas that the world needs. Shifting the thoughts of self-doubt requires some conscious effort. One place to start is to reframe the voice of self-doubt. It might sound simple but it works: I CAN'T to I CAN I DON'T to I DO I AM NOT to I AM Words are powerful, especially those we tell ourselves. So what do you need to say to have the belief in yourself to make change? #makingchangehappen See more

03.01.2022 Courage doesnt always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says Ill try again tomorrow. Mary Anne Radmacher I spent time with a coaching client today who feels like he isn't getting anywhere. He feels pushed and pulled between the frenzy that often accompanies the onset of December (too many urgent things to do) and the desire to embrace the upcoming holiday period and emerging warm weather here in the Southern hemisphere (he's tired a...nd ready for a break). He particularly feels defeated by one of his big goals for the year that hasn't come to fruition. He's in the dip. He's close to giving up. But in the true spirit of creating momentum by taking the smallest viable step to keep yourself moving, I heard him show true courage by saying "tomorrow, I will ...." and with that he hasn't given up, he has kept his goal alive. That is an accomplishment for him right now. It may not be complete yet, but it will never be finished if you give up. What are you 'trying again tomorrow'? #makingchangehappen See more
