23.01.2022 Dear parishioners, Thousands of years ago, in the little town of Bethlehem, a baby was born inside a manger, a feeding trough that drew the hungry souls to Him. Among them were the poor and unclean weary shepherds with their flocks, the wealthy and wise with their precious gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Travelling far and wide, they came following a star, to kneel before the King of kings and Lord of lords, who has come into the world to beckon the outcasts and sinne...rs. 2020 years later, a new type of star is beckoning the hungry and weary to seek the comfort of Christ the LORD. In the midst of a viral enemy giving rise to fear, anxiety, pain, isolation and uncertainty, we again witness a similar pilgrimage to the place where Christ is to be found. From all walks of life, we see the poor, the rich, the humble, the wise, from every country, city and town, flock to the Presence of the Lord, hungry for the Sacraments of life. Let us continue to thank the Lord this Christmas, under our parish theme, as we "Go to Bethlehem and see" all the graces that He has bestowed upon us, asking Him to further strengthen our Faith and Trust in Him. May He keep our hearts as a warm and safe manger, a refuge where He may dwell, beholding His Glory that will continue to shine like the Star of Bethlehem for all to see. May this Christmas not be marred by what we do not have, but rather be filled with gratitude for all the blessings that we do have in this present life, preparing us for the perfect joy of eternal life. May we again fill our churches with songs of praise and shouts of joy as we gather with family and friends to celebrate this joyful Season of Christmas. Fr Tony Sarkis Dean - Our Lady of Lebanon Co-Cathedral

13.01.2022 Dear Parishioners, We thank you for your patience during this time. We understand that there have been a few questions in regards to our upcoming Christmas Masses. Due to the current limitations in place, please see the below Directives that must be adhered to: 1. We will only be accepting people who have pre-registered for the Christmas Masses.... 2. If you have booked in for a Mass, we will be checking people into the Church on a first in, first served basis with the overflow of people to be directed to the Hall and the Recreational Room. 3. Entrance into the Church will be from the Grotto side and those in the Church will be asked to exit via the stairs of St Joseph. 4. All Parishioners must adhere to the instructions of the Priests and Volunteers. Please remember that our volunteers will be sacrificing their time to help us celebrate Christmas in our beloved Parish. They also play a significant role in ensuring that we remain compliant with the NSW Legislation. It is the responsibility of all us to remember the importance of charity in all our interactions, most especially with our Volunteers. 5. Please note that there will be a staggered exit time from the Church, Hall and Recreational Room. Again, we ask you to adhere to the instructions of our Priests and Volunteers. 6. We will endeavour to communicate any further changes as soon as we are made aware of them. We implore Christ Our Lord and ask His Blessing on all in our Parish Family, we pray that this Christmas season brings with it all the Faith, Hope, Joy and Warm Love on offer in the Child Jesus. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas. Yours in Christ, Fr Tony Sarkis Dean Our Lady of Lebanon Co-Cathedral

11.01.2022 Happy New Year from all OLOL Clergy, Staff & Volunteers to our beloved Parishioners. Fr Tony Sarkis Dean - Our Lady of Lebanon Co-Cathedral.

10.01.2022 In the Maronite Church, the Epiphany marks the Baptism of Our Lord and the descent of the Holy Spirit upon Him. At midnight, on the night before the Epiphany, Maronite tradition has it that Jesus will pass over to bless the homes of the faithful. All creation will bow down to Him except for the cursed fig tree and the proud mulberry tree. We greet each other with the term Deyim Deyim which means everlasting everlasting which signifies that the Everlasting never forgets t...o visit. The dough is kneaded and left out to create the yeast starter which will be used for the rest of the year. Windows, doors, and the grain houses are left open so that they can be blessed and protect the homeowner from poverty. The faithful also attends Mass and bring with them bottles of water to be blessed and used in the house for the rest of the year. So tonight, open your homes and more importantly, open your hearts and your minds to receive the blessing of the Everlasting into your life. Read this lovely short story by Lebanese author Maroun Abboud which captures the beautiful Maronite traditions around the feast of the Epiphany. https://www.olol.org.au/index.php Mass Times (All with the blessing of the water) Tuesday 5 January: Eve of the Epiphany Vigils 10pm (Livestream available) Wednesday 6 January: Feast of the Glorious Epiphany of Our Lord with the Rite of Blessing of the Epiphany Water: 7 am, 9am, 11am, 5.30 pm & 7 pm. ( 7pm Livestream available) Deyim Deyim!

10.01.2022 Christmas Masses Livestream Schedule: Thursday 24th at 6pm and 11pm. Friday 25th at 9:30am & 11am.

10.01.2022 14 December - Saint Nimatullah Hardini On 14 December we will celebrate the feast of St Nimatullah Hardini. We know that Father Nimatullah lived a holy life. He was a man of prayer, totally "enraptured by God". He spent days and nights in meditation, prayer and adoration of the Eucharist. He was a monk and was known as a humble, sensitive and patient person who lived his monastic vows of "obedience, chastity and poverty" to perfection. His fellow brother Monks and the people ...who knew him called him "The Saint" while he was still alive. One of his students was Charbel Makhlouf (St. Charbel), 1853 to 1858. In 1998, Pope John Paul II declared that Father Nimatullah is an example of Christian and monastic life for the Maronite community and for all disciples of Christ today... He is a sign of hope for all Lebanese, particularly for families and young people." A large part of our Monastic tradition has involved fasting. We are told that St Charbel’s fasting was severe, that he would often only live on small amounts of herbs. Fasting, abstinence, prayer and meditation have been an important part of our Maronite tradition. Fasting always comes before a great feast. It allows us to prepare ourselves spiritually for the feast. We know from the Maronite Synod of 1736 that in the lead up to Christmas, abstinence was required for the twelve days from 13th - 24th December. This meant abstaining from eating all meat, oil, wine and animal products (eggs, milk, cheese etc.). These are fasts that St Nimatullah and St Charbel would have observed. While this is not a requirement of the Church, it is one of our traditions and we can all benefit from reinvigorating it, especially in the lead up to great feasts such as Christmas. It gives us the opportunity to prepare ourselves and refocus on the things that matter leading up to the feast. It is a wonderful example to our children. Fasting at this time can also allow us from becoming consumed in the excess and greed that can be so tempting at this time of year. Fasting from alcohol for example allows us to see more clearly and avoid sin. So in the twelve days leading up to Christmas from 13 December let us consider fasting. Maybe it is just to avoid alcohol, avoid chocolate or lollies or perhaps give up meat. But most importantly let us consider how we are going to prepare ourselves spiritually for Christmas. We can all participate in the Christmas Novena that starts on 15 December.

08.01.2022 Greetings in the Lord As I am sure you may have heard, the NSW Government today announced further easing of restrictions for places of worship. Our parish community welcomes this announcement with great joy and we look forward to welcoming more people back to attend Mass in our beloved Cathedral. This new rule comes into effect from Friday 23 October. What this means for us is that, God willing, this coming weekend’s celebrations will allow for 300 people in the cathedral.... Our parish remains committed to ensuring that all who attend our Cathedral can do so with the peace of mind that all necessary precautions have been taken into consideration. With this in mind we ask you to remain patient with us and our volunteers as we do our best to accommodate everyone whilst maintaining our commitment to our COVID-Safe plan. After the difficult year we’ve all experienced, it brings me so much joy that we were able to come to our little Bethlehem and see and celebrate the joyous birth of our Lord. Your work speaks volumes as you give generously from your own time and devote yourselves to your parish, working with a thunderous silence, like Saint Joseph! Truly this is a blessed parish. A REMINDERTONIGHT, our Maronite Christmas Novena starts at 6:00pm in Arabic (Mass and Novena) and 7.30 pm in English (Mass and Novena). I encourage you all to come and participate in the spirit of our parish motto: Let us go to Bethlehem and see. Fr Tony Sarkis. Dean - Our Lady of Lebanon Co-Cathedral.
