04.01.2022 Anzac Day Poem The year was 1915 and the world was at war And Australian and New Zealand troops were sent right to the fore It was a strategic location where our troops were sent,... Little did the world realise what this battle truly meant Between Europe and Russia was a small patch of coast It was decided this was now the new Anzac Post The Turkish army was waiting holding the High ground and advantage Mortar and sniper fire ensued at the battle of the Gallipoli ridge On this headland at Gallipoli, our boys were sent to fight And despite being on the low ground they fought with all their might. It was a dirty horrid battle in a simple bloody trench You can imagine the sweat blood and tears adding to the stench The spirit of the Anzac was defined during this campaign But retreat in the middle of the night meant thousands of lives lost was all in vain But despite losing the battle our troops won the war And at the heart of Allied victory was the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps We gather today over 100 years later to honour our soldiers who fell And to remember we all still have their story to tell For all the men and women who have served and protected your country, we will forever be in your debt, And for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, Lest We Forget By Jeremy Murray #LestWeForget #LightUpTheDawn #ANZACSpirit #AnzacDay
