24.01.2022 After a long six months - WE'RE BACK! We sat spaced out (!?), we had hymns with no singing (though a lot of toe-tapping and humming), no coffee (yet) and no collection bags (though EFT seems to have stepped in there). But as soon as we heard each others' voices, accepted and responded to warm greetings and shared expressions of concern and saw each other in 3 dimensions for a change, we really felt we were back. Those who led us through the readings and contributed thoughtful words of prayer enhanced our morning together and it was noted that the Good Lord had taken care of the weather - what a golden Spring morning. Back in a warm and loving community united in Faith and where the Holy Spirit abides around and within us. (Lo, I am with you ...... )

19.01.2022 A prayer for Mothers Day from Sarah Agnew (https://www.sarahagnew.com.au)

19.01.2022 Well, Sunday is almost upon us once more. Here are this week's readings; Exodus 32: 1-14, - we once more mine the stories of Moses and the escape of the Jews out of Egypt. This time the refugees, impatient for the return of Moses, give up their gold to have a golden calf fashioned that they could worship and thank for their deliverance. This rejection angered God, who considered their total destruction, but Moses intervened on their behalf and pleaded with God to calm his ...anger. Matthew 22: 1-4 - this brief reading comprises a parable in which Jesus describes the Kingdon of Heaven as a wedding banquet, fully prepared for the arrival of guests. The following verses are very difficult to interpret but essentially describe how it all went wrong, to wind up with the advice 'For many are invited, but few are chosen.' Philippians 4: 1-9 - Paul's letter to this church in Macedonia came at a low point in his ministry and he thanks the congregation for their support. He specifically acknowledges the role of two women who have led this community in ways consistent with his teachings and expresses confidence that God hears their prayers and protects them from deception. 19.01.2022 Prayer and pandemic When we are still enough we can fill our space with prayer, reflection, stillness. Has prayer practice changed for you in 2020?

18.01.2022 Through November, NBUCA's younger congregation have been working through a challenge grid to fundraiser for UnitingWorld projects in Beirut and West Timor. Through these challenges we've also been studying our response to the legionary readings of the Gospel of Matthew during November. These include ways of showing love for God (Matthew 25:31-46). You may want to use the challenge grid for a ‘doing’ advent calendar this year

08.01.2022 Our church kids have also been exploring where our mission money goes, and how we show love for Christ. They’ve mapped out a wonderful way that their small actions ripple out to the world.

08.01.2022 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

08.01.2022 Acts 10: 44-48 and John 15: 9-17 Services at 9:15 and 6pm

06.01.2022 This week's service is based on Matthew 22:15-22, about discerning where a Christian's duty should lie [AKA Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's.] At a time when citizens in many regions of the World are being asked some BIG questions and sometimes show signs of going past allegiance towards virtual worship of worldly leaders (and aspirants), what guidance does Jesus provide?

05.01.2022 The Australian Christmas varies a lot from family to family. As a kid, we were always down at the beach camping and it was always pretty casual - cold salads and ham. The Christmas (summer) holidays seem to last forever - great memories. My wife's family had a much more northern hemisphere tradition, with turkey, ham, fine wines and a recovery nap afterwards. Australia is increasingly affected by the blanding of Christmas that American went through some years ago - Merry ...Christmas is very often corrupted to 'Happy Holidays', as if our period off work is not based on a day when many in our diverse community choose to celebrate the birthday of Jesus (we don't know the real date, of course). In a well-intentioned rush to avoid discomforting non-Christians, we have corrupted this holy day. In my view (and experience when living in SE Asia) it is better to celebrate everyone's' 'special days' as a community - Lunar (Chinese) New Year, Ramadan, etc - to express our commitment to a diverse and mutually respectful community. As I have grown older (wiser?), I have come to hate the greeting "Happy holidays" - it is a corruption of tolerance, masquerading as respect. I don't think we should have a holiday to hope for and celebrate a jump in our communal GDP. The practice of respecting and giving to others is worth celebrating as the Spirit of Christmas, and if it has been named after an infant said to have been born about 2000 years ago, so be it. 05.01.2022 Pentecost Sunday Services at 9:15am & 6pm led by Andrew Jago Acts 2:1-21

03.01.2022 Our Minister, Andrew Jago, was ordained in Sydney on 19/12/2020 at St Stephens, Sydney. We’re thankful some of NBUCA were able to be present for Andrew’s ordination - not usually something that would give us a second thought in any other year than 2020!

03.01.2022 A prayer in Advent from Jon Humphries on the Prayers that Unite fb group Loud Like Love (Inspired by a song title of the same name by the band Placebo)... God, We know you through the person of Jesus Called Immanuel, Being the Word of God Who lived your love loud, Loud enough to echo through the centuries to today. Help us live loud like love Loving loud enough that even those deaf to the needs of others hear Loving loud enough to be heard over the clamour of consumerism and self-interest Loud enough to silence the voices of hate and division Loving loud enough to wake ourselves and others up from the slumber of apathy and indifference Loud enough to sound hope to anyl who suffer or struggle Loving loud enough to call all to compassion in action Loudly we pray Amen. - Jon Humphries
