24.01.2022 We explored density for science week today and experimented with sinking and floating. We discussed how objects are made up of tiny particles and how this makes them float if they are less dense than water and sink if they are more dense than water. We also predicted what we thought would happen before we put each item into the water. Then we got creative and paint stamped with corks .

20.01.2022 Here at Our Place FDC we go to another wonderful educators for playgroup. We planted Dahlia seeds during one of our visits and over the past few months have watched them grow. We got to pick and take home this beautiful posy of flowers this week, so for art today we did some still life drawings of our special flowers. Focusing on fine motor skills, observation and creativity as we used a variety of art mediums to represent our posy of flowers.

16.01.2022 As an educator one of the best things about this time of year is compiling the children’s learning portfolio’s ready to send home. I love reflecting on all the wonderful experiences the children engage in throughout the year and the children love looking at their art works and photos as they share their experiences with one another. I believe a rich and diverse play based curriculum is essential for early learners to give them the best start in life and having these precious keepsakes lets my parents treasure these memories forever .

16.01.2022 Following children’s interests and a holistic approach to learning is very important here at Our Place FDC. There has been a lot of interest in caring for babies in home corner so to extend learning we are focusing on health and hygiene and learning all about keeping our skin clean and healthy as we bath the babies. Water play is always a favourite here and a wonderful way to engage children in intentional teaching. We are also focusing on sustainability by recycling our bath water on the garden .

15.01.2022 Ever wondered why kids repeat things over and over again? Their brain is creating new pathways or synapses. Play is one of the fastest ways for this to happen. Play is vital to children’s learning, that’s why early childhood teachers have a play based curriculum. We program learning activities based on children’s interests and stages of development and deliver these to the children in a play based way.

12.01.2022 A huge thankyou to my wonderful families for my 2019 Educator Of The Year nomination .

12.01.2022 It’s been a very special time here at Our Place FDC as one of our families awaits the arrival of a new baby. The children have been so excited watching the baby grow inside it’s Mummy’s tummy and eagerly awaiting it’s arrival. Often asking when it’s coming out. We have been learning all about what it means to be a big sister in preparation for the birth as well as looking at all the things needed to get ready for baby. Much to the children’s delight we now have a gorgeous little bundle of joy amongst us. Welcome to the Our Place FDC family baby Eva .

11.01.2022 It’s Science Week this week one of our favourites here at Our Place FDC. Today we focused on the states of matter and explored solids, liquids and gases. The children loved observing the different states of matter in the balloons and then got creative painting with the gas filled balloons.

10.01.2022 I am very excited to receive nominations for Educator of the Year 2020. A huge thank you to my families who have nominated me this year. It is truly humbling and very appreciated especially with all the uncertainty we have had to endure .

09.01.2022 Exploring gears today for science week. The children problem solved as they constructed so that all the gears would turn together.

08.01.2022 We have an invitation to play with our dinosaur small world here at Our Place FDC. Extending on the children’s interests is always a great way to foster wonder, curiosity and engagement .

07.01.2022 Playdough is one of our favourite sensory activities here at Our Place FDC. The children love to show you what they are creating. We have lavender playdough for this experience with lavender fresh from our garden and a little lavender oil as well. The beauty of playdough is that there really is no right or wrong it is simply all about discovery, exploration, sensory, creativity, and play .

07.01.2022 Here at Our Place FDC we focus on building strong meaningful relationships and connecting to our world. One of the ways the children do this is by being involved with a pen pal program where we exchange letters, photos, post cards and artwork with other child care services. We are currently interacting and building relationships with Laura’s Explorers a service in Quainton England and Bambino Retreat Family Day care in Herdsmans Cove Tasmania. The children are so excited when we receive correspondence and really enjoy learning all about where our friends are from. We also share video messages and FaceTime as well to strengthen our connections and deepen our understanding of the world around us .

07.01.2022 PLEASE DONT JUST UN-ENROL YOUR CHILDREN FROM THEIR EARLY EDUCATION AND CARE SERVICES !!! There is so much uncertainty in the world at the moment and so many people are losing their jobs, please don't add your child's educators to that list. I am NOT saying you should send them if you don't feel comfortable. What I am saying is PLEASE DON’T UN-ENROL THEM.... Talk to your service first. There are a number of things in place from the government to help families and to stop services from going bankrupt but these measures are only helpful if the children STAY ENROLLED. Firstly, if you or your partner has lost their job or had your wages cut, you can go on to your Mygov page and apply for temporary financial hardship. This means that the government will pay your childcare fees in FULL for 13 weeks. The government has also committed to paying the CCS portion of the fees in the event that our services do go in to lock down. What this means for services is that we can keep paying our educators, our rent, etc etc etc. It means that at the end of all of this, there will be services to send your children to. I implore you, please speak to your service director and or Family Day Care Educator. Find out your options, BEFORE just pulling your children out. It will make the world of difference to our sector as a whole and to your Educator personally. From Our Place FDC family to yours stay safe

05.01.2022 A little snow inspired fun had the children engaged in learning while playing. Snow sensory bin, snow gift packing station and an Aussie Snowman artwork. The children concluded that our snowman would melt as it’s too hot so painted melted snowmen . Engaging fine motor skills at all levels, curiosity, experimentation and enquiry learning just to name a few. All while having lots of fun.

04.01.2022 We had a blast here at Our Place FDC for book week recently. The children had so much fun dressing up as their favourite book characters each day and bringing in books from home to share. We also focused our art experiences all week around the books brought in each day. The theme for this year was Curious Creatures and we even made some of our own at playgroup .

04.01.2022 We are celebrating Chinese New Year at Our Place Family Day Care today. Learning about different cultures gives children a sense of the world around them and helps them understand diversity. We read a wonderful book which led into our activities. Using chopsticks to fill our noodle boxes, placing coins into our red envelopes for good luck, counting to 10 with Chinese numbers and creating our own gold coin art on red paper for more good luck.

04.01.2022 Our Dinosaur Land invitation to play has been very well received this morning and created lots of interest and engaged the children in creative imaginary play for most of the morning.

03.01.2022 Our gears inspired our art today and we paint stamped gears

01.01.2022 Adding a little Xmas flair to a numeracy activity makes learning lots of fun. Using our magnetic letters with Xmas themed counters for number recognition and 1-1 correspondence. The children thought it was wonderful and were so proud of their counting skills.

01.01.2022 A huge thank you to all my wonderful families for my 2020 Educator of the year nomination .
