24.01.2022 So green! I travelled this same road a few weeks ago & it was brown & dry to a crisp! I cant believe the transformation the rain has made so quickly. However, although green, this region is still in drought & strict water restrictions are in place. #bewaterwise #greenvalley #southerndowns #southernqueenslandcountry @sqcountry #holidayherethisyear

24.01.2022 Pennicott Wilderness Journeys in Tasmania is a great example of a business that works hard to minimise its environmental footprint. All of their tours are 100% carbon offset and their energy use, water consumption and waste output are measured through the internationally recognised EarthCheck system. To date, they have contributed $160,000 to enable important island restoration projects to be undertaken by the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service. ... 19.01.2022 I love this: Assigning favorites diminishes travel, because our happiness as travelers is not defined by what we think of a destination; its how our heart flutters with a trail of dust in our wake. Ecotourism Australia

14.01.2022 Great news (for a change) from the USA! Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court fulfilled its legal duty and moral obligation, ruling that almost half of Oklahoma was American Indian land in one of the most far-reaching Native American cases to come before the highest USA court in decades. Three million acres of land in east Oklahoma was returned to the Muscogee Creek Nation, to meet the original boundaries of the Nation under the Treaty of 1866. Oklahomas position in Native Amer...ican history has been significant, being the unassigned land that almost 60,000 American Indians were forced to relocate to from their ancestral homelands, following the passage of the Indian Removal Act, 1830. The mass migration of the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee Creek and Seminole nations, as well as their African Slaves became known as the Trail of Tears which continued for the next two decades. With the headquarters of 39 American Indian nations based in the state and a total of 67 Native American nations having called Oklahoma home, the strong heritage and culture that has come with these is very much a part of Oklahomas identity today, with two new American Indian attractions due to open in the next year The First Americans Museum in Oklahoma City (2021), and the Choctaw Cultural Center (late 2020) in Durant, home of the Choctaw Nation Oklahoma Headquarters. 02.01.2022 Virtual reality for Seniors - how great is this! Aussie Virtual Reality Startup Brings The World To Seniors Loneliness and isolation among seniors in aged care facilities is a devastating and growing problem, but a Melbourne-based startup is bringing seniors together through shared experiences in virtual reality (VR).... SilVR Adventures is providing highly immersive virtual experiences tailored to groups of seniors in aged care facilities across Victoria and planning to expand to more Australian states in 2020. Virtual reality has many proven applications in helping the elderly, from improving memory and tackling dementia, to helping with mobility. But one of its most striking and immediate benefits is its power to bring people together, says Juliene Pudsey, Director of Community Engagement & Experience at SilVR Adventures. Participants wear a VR headset and are guided by a SilVR Adventures facilitator through one of a range of scenarios, from exploring the Great Pyramids of Giza or meandering through the laneways of Rome, to journeying into outer space. All sessions are supervised by an aged care professional. Weve taken seniors on virtual plane trips and had participants ask if they could skydive from the plane as a group. Its a safe environment where participants get really creative and adventurous, but the communal element of that shared experience is so important. Were helping create shared experiences, resulting in shared memories and connections. The over 65s is the fastest growing demographic in Australia and studies have shown that seniors experiencing extreme loneliness are up to 26% more likely to die prematurely. SilVR Adventures is collaborating with academics at two of Australias leading universities to investigate the benefits of VR in increasing happiness, social wellbeing and cognitive capability. With an endless range of potential experiences and relative affordability, VR has massive potential to help seniors live, happier, more connected lives. Were thrilled to be part of something that can make a real improvement to seniors quality of life. https://www.silvradventures.com.au/
