He covered how the 110 free online courses provided during the pandemic were a welcome move, but expressed fears they are a Trojan horse for the Government to hollow out TAFE NSW and depart from quali...ty face-to-face teaching. He also spoke about how Connected Learning Centres cannot be a substitute for longstanding teaching methods.

24.01.2022 TAFE Directors Australia chief executive officer Craig Robertson said he was surprised the commission had promoted student loans for VET students and market-based solutions following the pandemic. "All that is going to happen is students get saddled with debt that stays on their tax record," he said. "And the government is transitioning costs to the most vulnerable students in society."

21.01.2022 Training for healthcare workers is about to go virtual for the first time as part of a new partnership between industry, TAFE and NSW Health. Learning how to take a blood test will no longer need to be done in a real health setting. 20.01.2022 TAFE NSW MEMBERS: PERSONAL DEVICE USAGE This bulletin is an update to members from our 13 March bulletin last week in which the union directed members to continue to hold out on using your personal smart phones to create a myGovID despite what TAFE management tells you, if you so choose. TAFE has now responded to CPSU NSW correspondence on this matter following threatened industrial disputation, yesterday.... The TAFE is still preparing its official response. That will be with us by today Wed 18 March, but in the meantime it has advised the union that: TAFE will not be mandating that staff utilise their personal mobile phones to perform this work, however, if they are comfortable in doing so that is permitted and helpful in the circumstances. Whether TAFE has changed its position or not, is not clear, however: this message, we know, has not been properly communicated to all staff when it needs to be, with urgency If there is no effective alternative to staff having to utilise their phones, then the above statement is meaningless TAFE needs to now ensure, via an official memo to all affected staff they wont be treated adversely if they choose not to use their personal smart phones it will also need to ensure that those who choose to not utilise their personal smart phone will not be treated differently when restructuring occurs later this year. We will wait for TAFEs official response tomorrow and follow up. But in the meantime, the CPSU NSW stands firm against the use of personal smart phones for any work purpose, and TAFE needs to seriously look at what alternatives it can provide to staff ASAP. 16.01.2022 CONVERSION TO PERMANENCY FOR CPSU NSW MEMBERS in June 2019 the CPSU NSW lodged a dispute against TAFENSW in the Fair Work Commission for its failure to act on temporary and long-term casual conversion applications we had submitted in line with Clause 17 of the TAFE Commission of NSW Enterprise Agreement 2019. As a result of this Fair Work dispute, TAFENSW was compelled convert several dozen temporary and casual members to permanent employment at the time.... All workers benefit from security of employment. This basic right is especially important in these uncertain economic times. Strong union membership is critical.

14.01.2022 TAFE MUST PROTECT JOBS, NOT CUT THEM The CPSU NSW has called on TAFE NSW to immediately delay or abandon current restructures to save jobs and support NSW Gover...nment plans for economic growth. Politicians on all sides of the political spectrum have been vocal in imploring business to keep staff in work during the COVID 19 health crisis and its up to the public sector to lead by example. The union recognises that in the current circumstances TAFE NSW staff made redundant would be hard hit, unable to access the JobKeeper program or likely to find another job while much of the economy remains in lockdown.
