12.01.2022 Jimmy Pike, born 1940, became a well known printmaker and painter. He started selling his work in 1981. True to Aboriginal iconography and his pieces have become highly valued. In 1987 BHP commissioned a work and in 1988 he designed a bicentenary poster for Mount Newman Mines. His work can be found in many public collections. 05.01.2022 Yellow background for the waterholes - bringing warmth to these cooler months! Painting by Sam Tjampanangka of Papunya Tula Artists in the western desert. Acrylic on linen. Size 46 cm x 38 cm. The Papunya Tula Art Movement began in 1971 when a school teacher, Geoffrey Bardon, encouraged some of the men to paint a blank school wall. The murals sparked off tremendous interest in the community and soon many men started painting. In 1972 the artists successfully established their... own company. The company is entirely owned and directed by traditional Aboriginal people from the Western Desert, predominantly of the Luritja/Pintupi language groups.
