21.01.2022 Carefully created keepsake boxes made by our wooden art vendor, Fijn Woodcraft - These Keepsake boxes all feature hand cut, marquetry lids with unique pictures and patterns. The box itself is made from solid Tasmanian Oak and the inside base is lined with charcoal coloured felt. The base of the box has felt pads to protect surfaces. The lids feature marquetry, which is the technique of using real timber veneers to create pictures or patterns. These pieces use real timber ven...eers such as, Tasmanian and Australian Oak, American Walnut, Rock Maple, Bubinga and several dyed timbers. The lids have a recessed edge on the under side that locates it into the box. This piece features the sometimes maligned Cockatoo, because of its tendency to tear through all manner of foliage. However, you cant ignore the striking appearance of this bird and its somewhat comical nature. The custom-made hollow glass focal bead (made by Adelaide glass artist Jess Dare) shows the early morning tracks of a dingo on Big Red, the biggest sand dune in the centre of Australia. An Aboriginal woman, looking at the photo, told us a much more detailed story - which way he was travelling, that he was slowing down and was carrying something in his mouth.
