22.01.2022 **FUN FACT FRIDAY** Did you know?... The Olympic Australis is reported to be the largest and most valuable gem opal ever found. It was found in 1956 at the famous Eight Mile opal field in Coober Pedy, South Australia. A miner working his claim found the opal at a depth of 30 feet. It was named in honour of the Olympic Games, which were being held in Melbourne at the time.

Theyre transparent, but their internal structure refracts light at all angles. The result looks like a rainbow explosion inside the stone, and also allows them to appear to change colour depending on the light. The dimmer the light the more the Virgin Rainbow glows!
