09.01.2022 Congratulations to Malasia Airlines for boosting tourist traffic and economy of Alice Springs with MH122's emergency landing there. The decision to turn back after an engine failure was made over Derby, WA. Derby is 513 nm from Darwin which has a 3354m runway. Alice Springs is 692nm from Alice which has a 2436m runway. Services and onward connections are easier from Darwin but I guess MH122's crew only knew where Alice was as they had just flown over it or they didn't have an iPad to check the distances?? Also, for the uninformed, these aircraft would not be certified if they couldn't fly on one engine, so all's well that ends well.
