25.01.2022 Hello everyone, as some of you may be aware I am fortunate enough to have to opportunity to spend some time throughout the year in a tiny country town 550 odd kilometres south west of Brisbane. Nindigully is a town with a population of around 9 but is surrounded by farms with most of the local farmers visiting the Nindigully Pub. I have been visiting Nindigully for around 5 years now to help the owners of the Nindigully Pub with their large fundraising events each year and ha...ve just returned from a trip down this long weekend. As I drove out on Friday I was expecting to notice some effects of the drought that we are all well aware is occurring currently but what I witnessed was far beyond anything I could have even imagined. After leaving Toowoomba I drove the next 4 hours through what is usually huge farms of crops and animals and lovely bushland full of amazing native trees and wildlife, this time however I did not see a single paddock of healthy crop and areas that are usually green and bushy were completely barren and dead. When I arrived in Nindigully I spent the next 3 days talking with the owner of the pub and some of the locals who I have been friends with for a number of years, they confirmed how hard times are out west currently. The paddocks with no crops should have been ready to harvest now but nothing grew, the stock animals are losing their young or abandoning them, native animals are starving and centuries old trees are dying. On my long drive home yesterday I started thinking about what I could do to help these people who are struggling and how we can spread awareness of this issue. Last year we did some work as a centre and raised some money and collected dog food for farmers who were struggling and we also did some learning experiences with the children about drought and farming. I will again be starting to introduce some experiences to teach the children about weather, drought and the farming that happens in Australia but I am also looking to our community of ways we could help. I do have a couple of ideas that I have to work through but I am also looking for any suggestions, so please if you have any ideas or questions please feel free to email me or come in and have a chat. Thank you Jon
24.01.2022 Happy new year to our extended Everton Park Childcare and Development Centre community! We are very excited to start a new year at the centre and welcome many new families, children and even a few new teachers to our amazing community. Every new year brings us new opportunities to grow and develop as a centre alongside the children and continue to evolve to suit the individual needs of each of our students. At EPCCDC we believe that for a child to explore and learn to their f...ull potential they need to be in a collaborative environment where they feel they belong and are safe and supported. For this reason, our number one priority at the beginning of each year is to build relationships with both the children and their families, these relationships form the foundations for a holistic, collaborative and flexible learning program which will see some amazing results. We look forward to the year being filled with exciting, fun, authentic and meaningful learning experiences! See more
23.01.2022 Sorry Day 2019 Please leave a comment for us to include in our sorry book as a symbol of your commitment to reconciliation. Together we form a community supporting survivors in their journey of healing. We will be presenting this book to the Teralba Park Stolen Generations Support Group at the Sorry Day ceremony this Sunday 26th May.
23.01.2022 To help with our fundraising to deliver stock food to drought effected farmers in south west Queensland, the amazing team at Hanos Car Care have offered to donate $25 from every service booked and completed throughout November. All you have to do is mention Everton Park Child Cares drought relief fundraiser when making your booking. We cannot thank Les, Desley and the entire Hanos team enough for this amazing contribution, so please go and see the best mechanics around and have your car serviced before the Christmas period.
23.01.2022 At Everton Park Childcare and Development Centre we embrace the outdoor environment and the amazing learning opportunities and experiences children gain from spending time in nature. We are extremely proud to have been selected as a finalist in the Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation Outdoor Queensland Awards for the Nature Play QLD Nature Play Education Award. It is fantastic to see all the other amazing finalists and all the wonderful opportunities they are providing for children throughout Queensland. Good luck to all the finalists and we cant wait to celebrate with you all at the awards dinner.
23.01.2022 With two weeks left until we head off on our drive out west to deliver hay to drought affected farmers, I wanted to give everyone an update on our progress so far. We are extremely happy to say that we have currently raised enough funds to fill the truck to capacity with hay and cover the fuel costs, this is amazing and it would not have been possible without the help of so many generous donations from the community. We still have some time left and with the continued support... we are looking to fill a second truck or several trailers. Everton Park Child Care and Development Centre would like to say a very heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed thus far, this was an ambitious plan for a very worthwhile cause that I am sure will make a difference in some farmers lives. Please continue to donate, share and promote this initiative, if we all put in a little together we can make a big difference. See more
23.01.2022 Recently we have had some much-needed rain at Everton Park Childcare and Development Centre. Along with the usual fun wet weather play experiences this brings it has brought about a new interest in some of our kindy children. After one of the heavier rain periods some of the kindy children found a number of seedpods on the ground that they wanted to investigate. After some discussion and investigation, the children determined that the seedpods came from our lovely big jacaran...da tree. The children opened some of these seedpods to look at the seeds and learn more about them. After further rain the children have started noticing small seedlings popping up throughout our outdoor area. Today the children worked hard gently digging up the seedlings to transport them into pots to nurture them into small trees. During this the children found many seedlings that still had the seed attached to them and even a couple of seedpods with seeds germinating inside. This was a wonderfully rich learning experience that has promoted further interest that we will explore over the coming weeks. See more
22.01.2022 We have had a wonderfully busy start to a new year with lots of new children and families to welcome into our Everton Park Childcare and Development Centre community. One of the many things we like to do at the beginning of the year is to replant fresh crops into our produce gardens. One of the reasons we do this is directly linked to our new children. Not all of the children starting the new year with us will have had the same level of exposure to gardens as children who hav...e been with us for a number of years, this can mean that they dont share the same sense of ownership over these gardens and also may not have the same respect for them. We have found that having the children work together to prepare the gardens and plant fresh crops builds a great sense of pride, ownership and respect for all the gardens within the centre. Another great benefit with using the produce gardens for this is the opportunity to start discussions about food and help to build a positive relationship with food especially fresh produce. Throughout the year the children will continue to care for these gardens and rotate the crops to align with the needs of our kitchen and our seasonal menu changes. See more
22.01.2022 At Everton Park Child Care and Development Centre we are extremely proud of the wonderful natural outdoor environments we use each day in all weather situations (unless unsafe to do so). Having a large natural space plays an integral part in all of our educational programs and is of such benefit to the children however it takes commitment to ensure it remains at the high standard we want it to be. Last year was a very dry year and with little rainfall our natural grass areas ...and gardens had really suffered. As the weather is warming up and early predictions are looking promising for more rain this year we decided we needed to put some work in to these areas. We believe that the children should be welcome to participate in all maintenance and work at the centre when it is safe to do so. This opens up opportunities for new and exciting learning experiences. As we worked to prepare the grass areas for fresh turf we had many discussions about sustainability, weather patterns and care for natural spaces. The children loved helping prepare the area and watching as we laid the new turf and the outdoor environments are back to looking wonderfully green and inviting once again! The children will continue to care for these areas by watering, resting and mowing them so they remain healthy and green play and exploration spaces for years to come. See more
21.01.2022 Today we held the first of our $5er for a farmer events at Everton Park Childcare and Development Centre. It was great to see many of our families and staff getting involved today to help raise money for such a good cause. AXIS Contracting have very generously offered to drive their truck down to Nindigully and we have raised the money to cover this cost so every dollar raised from now will add to what we can stock the truck with. A massive Thank you to Jackson and the team ...at Axis Contracting for this amazing contribution and making this plan achievable!! We still need to raise a lot more money to fill the truck so if you are able to help out with a donation please drop by the centre or visit the following amazing businesses who have collection tins. 21.01.2022 How good is rainy weather! Over the last couple of months we have had some much needed rain at Everton Park Child Care and Development Centre. For some this would mean boring days trapped inside the classrooms but for us this has made for so much fun and amazing new learning opportunities. We are proud to be an all weather play centre, meaning that we utilize our outdoor environments in all weather unless it is unsafe to do so. The children LOVE rainy days and come to the cen...tre dressed ready to splash in puddles, cover themselves and their friends in mud and dance in the rain. Playing in the rain not only offers so much joy for the children but a multitude of learning opportunity, sensory, mathematical, science, engineering, risk taking and learning about their natural world are regular outcomes on these days! Following all the rain we have also noticed exciting new learning opportunities that the children are exploring. Prior to this rain we have had a prolonged period of very dry weather with large parts of Australia suffering severe drought. Since the rain our outdoor environments have burst into life! All the plants are growing and looking wonderful and many animals have returned in large numbers to all the gardens and green spaces throughout the centre. The children have been very quick to notice all these changes and have spent many hours observing and studying all the different creatures. Spending all this time in the natural environment promotes a respect and love for nature and thirst for knowledge that will last long into these childrens lives, this is why we are such strong advocates for giving children unstructured play where they are free to engage and explore their interests. 18.01.2022 Last week many people celebrated Outdoor Classroom Day around Australia, this day is a fantastic initiative to highlight how so many important and amazing learning opportunities can only occur in natural outdoor spaces. At Everton Park Childcare and Development Centre we are extremely lucky to have an amazing natural outdoor space that the children are free to use throughout every day. Because we use our outdoor classroom everyday we decided once again to offer to share this ...space with some children from the local school to celebrate an initiative that reflects our philosophy so strongly. Today a class of grade six students spent the morning exploring our outdoor classroom with the children from our kindy classes. The children had a great time climbing trees, digging and playing in dirt, building with loose parts and observing some of the animals that we share the environment with. The school children showed amazing respect to our environment and all the kindy children. When it was time to head back to school many of the children were reluctant to leave but happily gave a high five to every one of the kindy children on their way out the gate. I would like to thank all the children and staff from Everton Park State School for coming down this morning and celebrating this wonderful event! See more
18.01.2022 Over the weekend we completed the final stages of our drought relief fundraising initiative by delivering two truck loads of hay to The Nindigully Pub. We are currently working on a special video that documents the journey but before that we would like to take the chance to say a big Thank You to everyone who helped us exceed our ambitious goal and share a couple of photos. In the end we raised a whopping $10,947.00 in just over a month, 100% of this was used to pack a large ...truck with a trailer and a semi-trailer with hay to be delivered straight to drought affected farmers. This was a huge effort for everyone involved and wouldnt have been possible without the support from our amazing community! A very special thanks needs to be said to: AXIS Contracting , Hanos Car Care Everton Park State School, Everton Park State High School, ShotHouse Brew Bar, Meat at Billys, Emily Foord Memorial Kindergarten-Stafford , Natures Kids Child Care, Fitzgibbon Early Learning, John Paul College, Brisbane Opal Museum, API Childcare Centres, The Pine Community School, Col Robinson, Nindigully Pub/ Nindigully Pig Races Main Page and to every person who donated time, money or advice! THANK YOU! Please keep an eye out for the video See more
17.01.2022 We have made a donation page for our drought appeal, please share this around and help us reach our goal.
16.01.2022 Today is a very special day in the life of Everton Park Childcare and Development Centre, 20 years ago today our amazing licensee bought the centre. In the 20 years since the centre has completely transformed into the beautiful environment it is today. This transformation wouldnt have been possible without Cons vision, passion, commitment and hard work. We would all like to say a very big thank you to Con for his constant dedication to early childhood education and for giving us this place that makes lots of special little moments every day! This video shows just some of the amazing transformations that have happened in the past 20 years.
15.01.2022 Early Educators day is tomorrow. Wednesday 4th September. How will you say Thank you for all they do?
14.01.2022 Wishing all Mums a very happy Mother's day.
14.01.2022 Late last year, Everton Park Child Care and Development Centre ran a fundraising initiative to deliver hay to drought affected farmers. We documented our journey to share with the children and our extended community.
13.01.2022 At Everton Park Childcare and Development Centre we are all committed to continued growth as educators and sharing our skills and knowledge with fellow educators to help provide the best outcomes for children. Research has found that children need more outdoor play time for their brain development and we are committed to ensuring our practices also remain current. Last week our outdoor educator spent half the week with the fantastic team from Forest School Learning Initiativ...e to facilitate the most recent level 3 forest school leader training course. Jon completed his forest school leader qualification with FSLI a couple of years ago and now helps facilitate these courses when the amazing Chris Dee and her team are here from the UK. This is a brilliant training course that aligns very closely with the philosophy of our centre. Through the course the educators will learn all the skills and theory required to set up and run a safe, fun and educational forest school or bush kindy. Jon loves the chance to be involved in these trainings to meet fellow educators who are passionate about embedding outdoor learning into childrens daily lives, it is also a great way to revisit his training and share new and innovative ideas with educators from around the country and across the world. Forest School Learning Initiative will be running another course in Brisbane and Melbourne in August, if you are interested in this truly amazing and worthwhile course contact them to reserve your place. 13.01.2022 We are now in our final weeks of fundraising to fill and drive the truck loaded with hay out to drought affected farmers in south west Queensland. The donations have been rolling in and we are hopeful this will be a very successful initiative however we still need more donations to ensure the truck is 100% full. Please donate if you can and please continue to share our fundraising page and the details of this initiative with your friends and family so we can reach our target. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us so far it is great to see so many generous members of the community coming together to support such a worthwhile cause! #drought #droughtappeal #Qld #fiverforafarmer #qlddroughtappeal
12.01.2022 Over the last couple of weeks we have seen some very exciting changes here at Everton Park Childcare and Development Centre! Our old sandpit in our big outdoor environment received a much needed facelift, this has been on the cards for a while now but we had some very specific requirements to consider picking contractors. After discussion between our wonderful licensee and all the staff we had a plan that was presented to the children and parents for input before we even star...ted the search for builders. Our new sandpit design incorporates a much larger water tank, some amazing feature boulders, a fresh look to the roof and lovely new sand. Surrounding the sandpit are more new gardens that the children have started filling with beautiful native coastal plants that will grow up to be a major feature of our outdoor environment. We are all extremely happy with the work that Zane and the team from Sensus Building Group completed, they were a pleasure to work with from consultation through to completion. It was a great experience for everyone to watch as our ideas and concept was transformed from a drawing to reality and we cant wait to watch the gardens grow to add the final touches. See more
10.01.2022 We recently saw a video of children engaged in some amazing learning experiences using a climbing net, we already had a climbing net but it was a very different design than the one we saw in the video. I contacted the centre that published the video and got some advice on where I could find one of these amazing nets. Once our new net arrived I set it up in one of our big trees and let the children explore it how they saw fit. The very first children to approach this experienc...e jumped in head first (literally) and from that moment on this experience has been packed with children wanting to explore the new addition to their space. By giving children the freedom to explore this experience how they feel comfortable we get to witness some children enjoying their time jumping, flipping and rolling around in the net while some other children lay back and enjoy some quiet time watching the birds in the trees. Thank you to all the families and members of the community for your ongoing support. We look forward to 2020 with excitement. We have a fantastic team of professional and enthusiastic Educators to implement another year of rich learning and fun for all.
09.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago we posted about our intent to run a drought appeal, after many conversations and different ideas we can provide an update on our plan. We have decided to work towards the goal of filling a truck with stock feed and working animal food and driving the truck down to Nindigully at the end of November to be distributed to the local farmers. This is quite an ambitious plan and one the will need the help of our local community if it is to be a success. We are... putting the call out to local schools and childcare centres to join us in holding events like 5er for a farmer with ALL donations going directly to funding this truck. We are also looking for anyone who has contacts or connections in rural supply or hay farms, dog food companies, fuel suppliers or trucking companies who would be willing to help this worthwhile cause. If you would like to know more or are willing to help us achieve this goal please get in touch with me. See more

09.01.2022 It has been quite a long time since our last post on the public Facebook page, but this year has thrown up many challenges for people all around the world. Although there has been plenty of challenges and uncertainty in our daily lives we have worked very hard to keep Everton Park Child Care and Development Centre the same magical place for the children and free from the stresses of the world around them. Our last few months have been full of amazing new learning journeys th...roughout our wonderful outdoor environment. We have made some new discoveries in our ever evolving gardens and watched our new native plants bloom for the first time, we continued our sustainability and gardening programs with the children growing some impressive crops for the kitchen, we made many new adventurous physical play challenges that the children mastered in no time and we had LOTS of fun while we learned through nature! Hopefully we will continue to return to a new normal and we will more regular updates on all the fantastic experiences and developments happening with the children here through the rest of the year. 06.01.2022 At Everton Park Child Care and Development Centre we are passionate about building strong and healthy relationships with food from a young age. We have many experiences embedded in our daily practice to do this from growing fresh crops for our meals to having an open Kitchen where the children can interact with the cook at any point through their day. One experience that we have found to be very rewarding and effective for building these relationships with food is having the ...children prepare a meal of their choosing with ingredients they have selected. Recently we had a child from one of our Kindy rooms ask if we could make a stew on the fire like we did last winter. When a child has an interest like this, we incorporate that into the program. The children chose what they wanted in the stew, helped set the fire and prepared all the ingredients to add to the camp oven. They cooked a delicious and healthy stew and were very excited to eat this for their lunch, they even shared it with some of the teachers. See more

05.01.2022 At Everton Park Child Care and Development Centre we are strong advocates for providing the children with plenty of unstructured free play throughout their day where they can explore, create and investigate. To facilitate this we utilize LOTS of loose parts, in fact we have eliminated traditional toys that are much more restrictive from the outdoor environment and replaced these with loose parts that are infinitely flexible. Over the last couple of months we have observed the... children showing some amazing creativity with the experiences and learning opportunities they have been creating with the loose parts in the outdoor environments. One day milk crates can be a part of an obstacle course entirely designed and built by the children, the next those milk crates can be used to stack on top of one another to measure the height of children, teachers or plants and the day after that they are made into a climbing structure to assist children climb in to the branches of a tree. The possibilities are endless and wonderful to observe. By providing the children with the time, freedom and space to explore and create they naturally engage in organic and meaningful learning experiences that with appropriate interaction from high quality educators will achieve amazing outcomes.
