24.01.2022 HIKING IN NEW ZEALAND UPDATE Milford Sound Track - Routeburn - Greenstone - Grand Traverse After the recent storms an assessment of the condition & repairs on the Routeburn Track has been completed. The majority of the track is able to be walked, so guided walks will resume on the Routeburn & Greenstone Tracks on Sunday 1st March 2020.... On the Routeburn Track the difference will be on day one where the first 6km of track from the Divide to Earland Falls need repair or a re-route of the track. Walkers will fly from Glenorchy to a Sunny Creek clearing on the track by helicopter & will walk from there. Day one: instead of driving from Queenstown to the Divide, the group will drive from Queenstown to Glenorchy airport about a one hour drive around Lake Wakatipu. From there a 15-minute flight to the landing clearing. Walkers will be able to walk about 2km to the spectacular Earland Falls & return along the track as per the usual walk to Mackenzie Lodge - about 5km - with time to relax at the lake. Day two: the program will operate as usual as this section of track did not sustain any damage. Day three: the bridges & rocky sections that were damaged by the storm have been repaired & are safe to walk. The bus will return to Queenstown about 4pm as usual. Walkers on the Grand Traverse will walk the Greenstone Track as usual & will then fly from Lake McKellar on day four to Sunny Creek to follow the rest of the walk as described. The meeting time in Queenstown for Grand Traverse will remain the same but it may change for the Routeburn Track. Briefing times on the day before departure will remain the same. 23.01.2022 Now travelling in Europe and thought I should let you know how it is at the airports. No signs of masks or health checks in Sydney, Heathrow or Gatwick in London or Lisbon in Portugal. More masks in Singapore (about 50% wearing them) and non-intrusive temperature monitoring on arrival. Population generally is aware of media reports but going about business as usual without concern. We are of course monitoring the situation and are working with our partners across Europe and the UK to keep you informed.
