25.01.2022 How amazing does Yvonne look in her new Avanti sunglasses!

25.01.2022 What do you need? We can help. Maybe you need a new pair of glasses, maybe you have a sore eye, maybe you have broken your glasses and cant see without them, maybe you have diabetes and need to have your eye health checked or maybe you just want to make sure that your vision is good and your eyes are healthy.... We can help, please ask us

24.01.2022 Today's tip - contact lenses and tap water, or even water in general don't mix. There are lots of germs and impurities in water which can contaminate your contact lenses and may then cause an infection in your eyes. Please only use the prescribed contact lens solutions for the care of your lenses and your eyes will thank you.

23.01.2022 Toddlers and screens dont mix We understand that keeping babies and toddlers entertained and engaged is no easy feat but ipads and screens are not the answer. It is recommended that children under 2 shouldnt spend any time on screens however recent research showed that babies are spending up to an hour per day fixated on a screen (usually a smartphone) before their first birthday.... You may wonder what all the fuss is about childrens eyes are still developing during toddlerhood and continue to do so until around 12 years of age. There is a whole lot of evidence that increased near work and decreased time outside is contributing to an increase in childhood myopia. It is so important to minimise screen time for our kids and to encourage them to go outside and play.

23.01.2022 There are always flowers for those who want to see them Henri Matisse Spring has to be one of the best times of the year in Toowoomba. This weekend sees the beginning of the celebrations for the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers. As with everything this year, carnival is going to be different. It is normally a time for the carnival parade through the streets, side show alley and of course the food and wine festival in Queens park.... Maybe this is a great year where we will need to appreciate the little things. The flowers are still beautiful, the smell of jasmine fills the air, the kids are on school holidays and the days are longer. Enjoy this time and the beautiful Spring in Toowoomba.

23.01.2022 It must be Halloween Ghosts and a full moon

22.01.2022 We all have this choice. I hadnt heard the name Jeff Bezos before maybe I had been living under a rock in case you live under the rock with me he is the founder and CEO of Amazon and has been the richest person in the world. I love this quote and also love the story behind it have a read below.... As a kid, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos learned an important lesson from his grandfather: Kindness is just as important as intelligence in order to be successful. The self-made billionaire, recounted the story during a speech he gave at Princeton University. As a child, he said he was obsessed with math and would find any reason to show off his prowess with numbers. He would calculate everything, including gas mileage, useless statistics and grocery spending. One day, while sitting in the back of his grandparents car, he overheard an ad on the radio, which said that every puff of a cigarette takes minutes off your total lifespan. Bezos said his grandmother was a smoker, which he hated, so he decided to calculate the number of years she had taken off her life thus far. I estimated the number of cigarettes per days, estimated the number of puffs per cigarette and so on, Bezos told the graduating class. When I was satisfiedI poked my head into the front of the car, tapped my grandmother on the shoulder and proudly proclaimed, At two minutes per puff, youve taken nine years off your life! he explained. Bezos sat expectantly as he waited to be applauded for his wit and arithmetic skills. Instead, he said, his grandmother burst into tears. His grandfather pulled over to the side of the road, got out of the car and waited for his grandson to exit the vehicle, Bezos recalls. He then told him, Jeff, one day youll understand that its harder to be kind than clever. Bezos told the Princeton grads that there is a difference between using gifts, such as intelligence, and making choices in life. Cleverness is a gift, kindness is a choice, said Bezos. Although being smart comes in handy, kindness is invaluable to achieving your career goals, he says. He left the graduates with these final thoughts: Gifts are easy theyre given after all. Choices can be

21.01.2022 BLUE LIGHT its a thing! But. did you know that the levels of blue light that come from the sun are SO much stronger than the blue light that comes from our computer screens and electronic devices? We think it is a great idea to always protect your eyes from the sun by making sure that sunglasses are part of your wardrobe when you are outside.... We get asked all the time though about whether we should be wearing blue blocking lenses when we are on the computer. There are some thoughts that blocking blue light can make things more comfortable by reducing how much light is scattered in the eye and this may improve eye comfort. It has also been suggested that the blue light thats emitted from screens can delay the release of sleep-inducing melatonin, increase alertness, and reset the bodys internal clock (or circadian rhythm) to a later schedule. Confused??? So here are our suggestions Always wear sunglasses when you are outside. Consider having a blue blocking coating on your prescription glasses that you use on the computer as this may be helpful and also because we know that having this coating on your glasses doesnt cause any negative effects either. If you are still confused, please get in touch

21.01.2022 We LOVE it when new glasses arrive. The first new frame wed love to show you is this beauty from Michael Kors. What do you think??

21.01.2022 Crawling is so much more than a cute way to move around when you are a baby. The process of learning to crawl and the action of crawling is an important part of the developmental process. Here are 3 reasons why learning to crawl is so important for your baby.... 1. Physical development crawling allows development of gross and fine motor skills, balance, body awareness, physical strength and hand eye coordination 2. Spatial awareness learning to crawl allows a baby to learn about their position in space and gives them a chance to explore an area so much wider that the one they had before they could move independently 3. Binocular vision when your baby sees an object they are interested in, they need to use their eyes together as a pair so they can work out where that object is and then use that knowledge so they can move accurately to the object and reach out and grab it.

20.01.2022 This is one of our favourite pictures look at that joy. And look at those amazing new glasses! This is why we do what we do.. no explanation needed

20.01.2022 Who knew that these little guys are a thing!!! We would like to introduce you to Kalettes - tiny little things that are a cross between brussell sprouts and kale and totally cute as anything. So what was the verdict?... Quite delicious pan fried in butter. And as a bonus - great for your eye health. Green, leafy vegetables, such as kale and spinach, are good for eyesight and preventing age-related eye diseases including cataracts and macular degeneration.

18.01.2022 Sometimes we need to take time out to do something creative. This is Shannons wattle creation from the other night. Thank you to @betty.bluebelle for the inspiration and the step by step video

17.01.2022 Dry eye is a real pain in the butt. It affects so many people and is actually really hard to get under control and to get you comfortable. If you are looking for a drug free, drop free option then you may want to keep reading.... IPL is a natural light treatment which filters certain wavelengths of light when it is applied to the eyelids. The light that gets through is absorbed by the tiny blood vessels that cause inflammation and it shrinks them which reduces the inflammation that causes dry eye. If you are struggling with dry eye which might be more like stinging or burning eyes, blurry vision or watery eyes then we may be able to help. Please get in touch with us.

17.01.2022 Its a large coffee sort of day! Lets do this...........

17.01.2022 Are you a lefty? Well if you are then today is your day. Today we celebrate all of those who work just a little bit differently in this world.... Did you know - Left handed people tend to use the right side of their brain more and it has been said that lefties are also highly intelligent some of the most popular inventors were left handed like Isaac Newton and Benjamin Franklin.

16.01.2022 We wanted to share our story with you it has been almost 11 years since our decision to create Outlook Eye Centre began. We would love to say that it had been our lifelong dream to have our own practice but that isnt entirely true. They say that businesses begin for a variety of reasons for us, we were prompted to take the leap after circumstances changed at our workplace. We had both worked together for a number of years and one day something just clicked and we decided to make this huge life altering change. Has it been easy? Definitely not! Has it been worth it? OMG yes, it has been amazing and rewarding and we wouldnt change a single thing about the whole process. We truly love what we do and appreciate all those people who have played a role to help us to get to where we are today.

16.01.2022 Happy Winter 2020 We love the changing of seasons but this one seems to have crept up on us. Its been one heck of a year, we are looking forward to this new season, to new normals and to new experiences and cant wait to share them with you.

14.01.2022 We all love to have new things. But really, how many possessions do we really need? Obviously you can never have too many pairs of glasses or sunglasses but. In this busy world, giving of time and kindness is so important. It is also important to be able to receive kindness. We need to remember to receive in the same spirit that we give allow others to help you, to compliment you or show their appreciation towards you. ... Is there something that you can do today to show someone kindess!

14.01.2022 Do you know how hard it is to take a great picture of glasses? So bloody difficult but totally loving how cool this picture looks with the new props that I bought on the weekend. And also learning how to edit the images so they look even better. ... Definitely a skill to develop more but really enjoying the process.

13.01.2022 We dont know about you but how crazy is it that we are almost half way through this year? And what a year it has been. 08.01.2022 It’s hard to believe that we only have 13 work days left at Outlook Eye Centre before we break for Xmas and things are pretty busy in the practice. 08.01.2022 How often have you noticed those annoying little black spots floating around in your vision?? Did you know that they are called floaters. The eyeball is filled with a thick clear jelly called the vitreous humour and it is made up of water and collagen and proteins. ... Over time, these can change and cause the fibres to clump together and these can get in the way of your vision. I dont know if you have ever noticed that when you try and look at these little spots or floaters they tend to dart away out of your vision and they seem to be most obvious if you are looking at a plain bright surface, like a white wall or up to the blue sky. It is not unusual to have a few small floaters and they may increase in number as you get older but. If you notice new, big floaters or blurry vision or flashing lights this may indicate something more serious so make sure you get your eye health checked. If you have any questions about floaters and eye things in general please get in touch.

08.01.2022 Did you know that taking Omega - 3 supplements can improve the eyes oil film thats produced by small glands on the edge of the eyelid, called the meibomian glands. That improves dry eye symptoms and reduces the need for artificial tears. If you have dry eye and would like some advice please get in touch.

08.01.2022 These little blue guys are in season and have so many amazing benefits. They are little antioxidant powerhouses they contain antioxidant vitamins C, A and E and zinc. Antioxidants protect your body from free radicals which are unstable molecules that can damage your cells and contribute to aging and diseases. Blueberries may help to reduce the pressure in the eye, fight inflammation, protect against cataracts, macular degeneration and night blindness.... They are cute and colourful and delicious either fresh or frozen.

08.01.2022 Feeling thankful that we have an inside job today this wind is crazy! Enjoy your day!

07.01.2022 We cant wait to show you our new pics! Thanks to the amazing talent of Michael Battle Photos, we spent a fun morning in the practice getting new photos taken. Who thinks that Andrew should give up his day job and try his luck modelling?

07.01.2022 Oh my - how lovely are these pastel treats from @modstyleau

07.01.2022 Do you have a favourite Christmas food? These little gingerbread are super cute and what's more, they were delicious. Fun fact - the biggest gingerbread house ever built was made in 2013 in Texas and was more than 18m long and used 7200 eggs for the dough.

07.01.2022 After the rain...

07.01.2022 We hope you are enjoying our amazing summer weather. We know that you know but just in case it has slipped your mind don’t forget to wear your sunglasses whenever you are out and about. Not only do sunglasses protect your eyes and the skin around your eyes against harmful and damaging UV light well they also look cool. ... And who doesn’t want to look cool? Right!

07.01.2022 Our health is our biggest asset. Taking care of ourselves should be a priority. This week we think about diabetes as it is National Diabetes week. The reality is that diabetes can cause lots of problems and one of those that we see on a regular basis are those problems that happen with the eyes. ... We encourage you to take charge of your own health - if you have diabetes please dont forget to have regular eye check ups - it may in fact save your sight. See more

07.01.2022 In case you didnt know - its the WEEKEND! I am off to Brisbane to catch up with friends who I havent seen for so long. Also loving my overnight bag which Ive had for ages - it was an amazing gift with purchase when we bought a new range of frames for the practice.... What is everyone else up to??? Enjoy Xx Shannon

05.01.2022 Did you know that the colour blue often symbolises stability, inspiration or wisdom!

05.01.2022 Who loves CATS???? We do (or Shannon does anyway) and today is HUG YOUR CAT DAY! We have three cats in the Outlook Eye Centre family.... Let us introduce you to our cats we have William Smith (grey), Pussa Smith (black) and Romeo Speed (grey and white). There are more to cats than meets the eye, did you know - - Ancient Egyptians would shave off their eyebrows when their cats died - Cats are shortsighted but their peripheral and night vision is much better than humans - A group of kittens is called a kindle - Cats can jump up to six times their length - Cats have the largest eyes relative to their head size of any mammal. - Cats first went to space in 1963 You are welcome x

05.01.2022 Ok lets be honest do you ever sleep in your contact lenses? Shock horror it cant be that bad can it?? Well unfortunately it can be that bad.... Of course, there are some types of contact lenses that are designed to be slept in but. if you wear disposable soft contact lenses it is probably not a good idea to wear these overnight. We hear you ask why is it that bad? Well the thing is, when you sleep in lenses it stops enough oxygen getting through to the cornea which changes the physiology of the eye. This means that it is easier for germs to attack the eye and that is when the trouble starts. So please, dont sleep in your contacts lenses!

05.01.2022 Happy Friday we are having a great day checking out new frames that will land in the practice soon. We are so thankful that we get to deal with amazing people like Peter from Modstyle. He always goes above and beyond for us. What do you think of the frames we are wearing? ... This is the Modstyle Avanti Heart and is available in 4 different colours. Obviously the red is the coolest colour if you ask us.

04.01.2022 "I see your fear, and its big. I also see your courage, and its bigger. We can do hard things." Stay strong This is a quote taken from the amazing book Untamed by Glennon Doyle would highly recommend this as one to put on your reading list.

03.01.2022 One word - Caramilk This beauty is back - and just in time to celebrate World Chocolate Day! Apparently chocolate is great for eyes - now its unlikely that the research was specifically studying Caramilk but my question for you is - why werent they??... It is true though that a small quantity of dark chocolate may increase your visual acuity (that is, how well you see) and your contrast sensitivity. And to make life even happier, these were found at Coles this week at the bargain price of two for $7. You are welcome

03.01.2022 When you totally need a bit of colour in your life!

03.01.2022 A big thanks to the team from Serengeti Print Group for our amazing new cleaning cloths. Who knew that we would have finally run out of the 10 million cloths that never seemed to end. We love being able to support other local businesses and were totally impressed with the fast turn around and the ease of communication.

03.01.2022 What if we told you that you can correct your vision while you sleep?? Sounds crazy right? But..... its totally true and the procedure is called Orthokeratology!... Lets call it ortho-k to make it easier. Ortho-k is the fitting of specially designed contact lenses you wear overnight. While you are asleep, the lenses gently reshape the front surface of your eye so you can see clearly the following day after you remove the lenses when you wake up. Ortho-k lenses are often prescribed to achieve two goals. Firstly to correct refractive errors (primarily myopia but also astigmatism and hyperopia). And secondly to slow the progression of childhood myopia. There is sooooo much more we could tell you, so if you are keen to learn more please get in touch, feel free to message us or contact our practice

02.01.2022 So today marks the 11th birthday for Outlook Eye Centre. We are just a bit proud of ourselves. It has been hard work but it has also been the best decision that we ever made. ... We are so very thankful to our family, our friends and all those people who trust us to care for their eyes.

01.01.2022 So we love pink.. especially pink glasses. These new delights from Avanti are a bit of a throwback to the 80s, something that we are seeing often now in eyewear.

01.01.2022 So grateful to have amazing patients who bring us delicious treats when they visit
