11.02.2022 Hi, it’s Freeda here (you know, FREEDA ROAM) #88 Well, I’ve had it. I’m sorry for being so abrupt, but I’ve had it up to here. Being around the house a lot I get to hear visitors talking to my humans and I’m sick and tired of hearing Freeda isn’t real, chickens can’t talk or someone else must write these blurbs, chickens can’t type and so on and so on. Let me tell you, I can read and type (I can’t write as I can’t hold a pen) and I can talk. I don’t know why everyone i...s surprised. You have seen Babe, the pig, talking on TV and in fact all the chickens in the movie Chicken Run talk, so why do you think that it’s impossible that I can. Also, those old enough would remember Mr Ed the talking horse. So YES, I can talk and if you don’t believe me next time you are passing Out’n’About eggs down here in Nannup, stop and I will prove it. You will recognize me. I am the brown chicken in the paddock with flecks of white and have red wattles (hangy down things under my chin) and a red comb. Get my attention and I will come over to the fence and have a chat. Til Next Time, Freeda See more

28.01.2022 HI, FREEDA HERE, just thought I would remind you that we are going to be at Boyanup Farmers Market on Sunday 19 th December. So come on in and get your fresh eggs laid by our happy pasture fed hens.

25.01.2022 and we are the best at roaming :)

25.01.2022 Happy St Patrick's Day! Don some green and tell us how you'll be celebrating .

24.01.2022 go the mighty chicken :)

24.01.2022 GREAT NEWS :) We are now stocked on the shelf at 3 more IGA's. Taylor Road in Nedlands, 2nd Avenue in Mt Lawley and the Boulevard in City Beach. Get in and check us out. Oh, and if you take a photo of us we would love to see it.

23.01.2022 Hi, It’s Freeda here, (You know FREEDA ROAM) #72 Well, you think we’ve not been busy enough recently with the Nannup Flower Festival running over five weeks this year and then the school holidays with all the extra traffic passing by our farm here at Out N About eggs. As egg Production Manager, yes, I have finally been made permanent (about time I say) I’ve had to keep the girls in order and at peak laying levels to meet all of our extra orders. Now it has come down from t...he big house that if we see cars stopping at the farm and people standing at the fence looking at us (I call it gawking) we have to go over closer to them so they can take a nice photo. That’s alright for us older girls, we just wander over as we are, though it is pretty hard to smile when you have a beak. The younger girls, noooo! They have to have a quick dust bath and preen themselves so that every feather is in its place, then run around looking for mulberries that have dropped over the fence to put a bit of colour on their beaks, then they go and strut their stuff clucking and cooing. What a sight. You would think they were doing a photo shoot for the Poultry Weekly magazine. Anyway, till next time.. FREEDA. See more

23.01.2022 This was forwarded from one of the schools that visited. This little poppet had so much fun, even though there was poo on her shoes and a chicken had pecked her shoelace undone...

23.01.2022 Hi its Freeda here (you know, FREEDA ROAM) #66 We cant help noticing all the precautions that our humans are taking here at Out N About Eggs to safeguard ourselves and our customers against this damn virus They wash and disinfect their hands constantly during the day and stay on the farm unless they have to do local deliveries. In fact there is a gate across the driveway now and the only outsider allowed in is the big truck that takes our eggs to the city. I thought us girls should do their bit as well (even though it isnt the bird flu) and I asked some of them to design a mask that we could wear. This is what they came up with I like the blue one till next time, Freeda.

22.01.2022 hello, Freeda has lent out her holiday cage. Triangle shaped about 3 feet long with mesh and flat tin sides. Similar to the picture only tin not wood. Trouble we are having is getting Freeda to tell us who borrowed it! If it is you, or you know who, could you give us a ring please. We will need it for the next batch of holiday chooks. TIA :)

22.01.2022 Hi, it’s Lyndon and Beth here (Freeda’s HUMANS), #87 Wow, December is here already. Where did that year go? Well, we just seemed to be getting back on track enduring Covid 19, with life almost back to normal and now it appears it’s not over yet. Regardless of masks, disinfectant and QR codes Freeda continues to take it on the chin (whoops, I meant beak) Life goes on here at Chookinup. From Lyndon and myself and all of us here at Out ‘N’ About Eggs, we sincerely thank you for your support during the year and wish you a very merry Xmas and a happier, healthier New Year . We will continue to bring you the best eggs from our pasture raised, completely free ranging, happy chickens. Who knows what 2022 will turn out like, however we can do nothing but BRING IT ON.

22.01.2022 Hi, Its Freeda here, (You know FREEDA ROAM) As you know I overheard our humans talking about leaving some room for a few chickens in the caravan as they were packing for their trip. I didnt have to confront them as they were going to take us anyway! I raced back to our van out in the paddock to find my friends, Old Judy and Princess Laya to tell them the good news. I definitely heard them say a few chickens. A couple is two and a few means three, so that must mean the t...hree of us. I told them to go and pack a bag quickly and we would head down to the house. It looked like we were just in time. As we approached they were putting the last few thing into the van. I thought they must have seen us because Beth said, Did you leave room for those chickens? Lyndon replied, Of course I did and came out of the house with three frozen chickens to go into the freezer. They then jumped into the car and drove out waving to us. I just stood there with tears rolling down my beak. Im speechless. Till next time FREEDA See more

21.01.2022 ahh :) back to school for all the chickens out there .

20.01.2022 we already know our chickens are great, the idea is catching on :)

20.01.2022 GREAT!!!! you can get your bacon, steak and eggs for brekky all from the same place :)

20.01.2022 Sadly due to the COVID 19 virus, our food security and safety plan means we cannot have outside visitors to OUT N ABOUT EGGS, so there will be no sales from o...ur home, although we are endeavoring to keep a supply available from The Egg Shed. Our eggs will still be available through Wendy at Lucky 7 and all our regular shops. We hope all our customers stay safe and well through this period, and thank you for your understanding. See more

20.01.2022 a little bit of a laugh today :)

19.01.2022 Hi its Freeda here, (you know FREEDA ROAM) #65 Isnt this flu thing terrible. However you cant blame this one on us birds, nothing to do with us this time. Seriously though with some people panic buying more than their weekly needs, demand for OutNAbout eggs has really increased. I am still in the trial period of my new job as Production Manager and all this extra pressure isnt helping my performance. Nature dictates that my girls can only lay one egg a day, so sudden...ly to have orders double in some cases, will leave some people disappointed. We can only do our best in these difficult times. Oh, FYI, we managed to locate several caravans after we mentioned it in our last blurb and the although the Long Table Lunch here in Nannup has been cancelled, they did get some bookings from our customers. Thank You. Please stay safe. FREEDA

19.01.2022 UNFORTUNATELY THIS EVENT( THE LONG TABLE LUNCH) HAS BEEN POSTPONED :( Hi, its Freeda here (you know, FREEDA ROAM) #64 Well, you think were not flat out like lizards drinking The weekend just gone was the Music Festival here in Nannup and we supplied the eggs for a lot of the catering including over 1000 for the Bush Breakfast. It was a great success. Also, at the end of the month on Saturday 28th March the South West Food Bowl is hosting a Long Table Lunch at the... Foreshore Park in Nannup. The theme is to highlight the produce from our area by serving up a scrumptious four course meal prepared by the award-winning team of Supper Road together with local wines. OutNAbout has also been chosen to supply the egg requirements. Tickets are available on Trybooking.com/159557 or phone (08)97560017. Maybe you should try and attend and experience not only the hospitality of our little town, but also some of the amazing produce grown in the area. Till next time. Freeda. See more

17.01.2022 The 2nd installment of The Day the Chooks Went Wild!

16.01.2022 Hi, it’s Freeda here ( you know, FREEDA ROAM ) #74 If you remember last time, I was telling you how busy we were with the school holidays and the Nannup Flower Festival. We all thought that with that over with, we might have been able to take it easy for a while. But NO the next week our humans informed us that we had about 600 school children from all around the district visiting us over 2 days as part of the South West Food Bowl education day. That sounded like fun! Th...ey walked around the paddocks looking into our sleeping caravans and even going inside the laying vans. Some of our girls were very embarrassed as they like their privacy when they are on the nest. Some of the children were picking us up and wanting to have their photos taken and there was even one boy taunting us with why did the chicken cross the road jokes. That didn’t worry us too much, they were really weak . After a while all the children and their teachers were taken over to watch the eggs being washed, then graded for size and packed. They even got to eat a boiled egg. I shouldn’t be too hard on them, most were well behaved and they got to see where the best eggs in the state come from (in my opinion anyway). I better go now as I hear the next bus arriving. Till next time, Freeda. See more

15.01.2022 Hi, its Freeda here (you know FREEDA ROAM), #68 Well things must be getting better with this virus thing. Being out in the paddocks living in our caravans, us chickens dont get to hear much current news. However there is a lot more traffic passing our farm here at OutNAbout eggs so the travel restrictions must be freeing up a bit. What I cant understand is where all of these older people with grey hair and towing caravans are taking all of their chickens! Why cant o...ur humans take us for a ride in our vans? I must ask them.. til next time ... Freeda. See more

09.01.2022 Hi its Freeda here (You know, Freeda Roam) #63 You may have previously read that Ive been moved from laying duties and promoted to a semi management position. Im on trial for 6 months and am really keen to do well. In a couple of weeks we have some new girls arriving. You got it, a real pain. Oh look at me, I can lay an egg a day without really trying and look at my beautiful plumage, I havent got any bald spots etc. My job will be to get them settled in to our routin...e here at Out NAbout Eggs and to sort out all their petty squabbles, however my problem is that I dont have anywhere for them to sleep. If any of our fantastic customers out there have an old caravan sitting around that they want removing please give my humans a call on 97562048. It doesnt need to be licensed but we do need to be able to tow it. If I succeed in this first task, I think they will make my position permanent. Thanks Till next time Freeda. See more

09.01.2022 Love seeing people stop and appreciate our hens. Glad they can bring about a laugh, smile and fond memory. Thanks for sharing Louise. Freeda (Roam)

08.01.2022 Got an egg and not sure what to do with it? Well we've prepared 4 different ways that you can make your egg the hero of your next dish. Recipe here: https://bit.ly/3f3oFzC

08.01.2022 Hi, its Freeda here (you know, FREEDA ROAM) Probably like you, here at Out N About Eggs were really happy that the isolation rules and regulations weve had to follow during these difficult times are being relaxed a bit. You dont have any idea of what its like having a couple of hundred girls wanting to lay an egg at the same time and only having 2 at a time allowed in the nesting caravan. Each day the queue stretches across the entire paddock with everyone standing w...ith their legs crossed trying to hold the egg in! Some unsuccessfully Now with 20 allowed in together, the situation has eased a bit but they still have to make sure they are in a nest box by themselves and there a couple of empty ones between each girl. Doing the right thing is still very important at the moment and hopefully things will keep on improving. Till next time.. Freeda. See more

07.01.2022 happy valentines day to all the hens and roosters out there :)

06.01.2022 What an exciting and exhausting 2 days we have had. The 2020 Food Bowl that happens every 2 years has visited again. We have had students from 5 different schools visit us, that includes the entire Nannup District High School, over 2 days. Fun was had by all, the dog, Rocky, enjoyed the visit and all the students and adults seem to enjoy the chickens. Information was shared and egg processes were looked at. Everyone learnt how we raise, feed and look after the chickens. How we collect, wash and package the eggs and all enjoyed the tasty boiled egg at the finish. Thank you to all the organisers, bus monitors, bus drivers , volunteers, teachers, aides, parents and students for making this event a success again. We look forward to the event next time it comes around.

02.01.2022 Hi, its Freeda here (you know FREEDA ROAM), If you remember last time, after seeing all the caravans pass our farm here at OutNAbout Eggs, I was going to see our humans and talk to them about taking us for a holiday in their van. Those vans that passed must have a least a hundred hens in each one. Lucky ducks, I mean chickens. As I went down to the house I was preparing as to what I was going to say. I knew they couldnt take us all, however I was hoping they wou...ld at least take me and the other two old girls, Princess Laya and Old Judy. I saw them walking to and from their nice big caravan loading up for a trip. Perfect timing. I was about to walk out and put my case when I heard Beth say I know we have a lot of gear to take, but make sure you leave room for a few chickens. YES!! They are organised to take us anyway.(Fist pump, I mean wing pump). Im off to tell the others the good news. To be continued Till next time FREEDA Turn me over for our stockist list. See more

01.01.2022 get to it for Mothers Day. :)

01.01.2022 Hi, It’s Freeda here, (You know FREEDA ROAM) Well, my humans have finally come back from their caravan holiday so I was hoping that maybe I could have a bit of a break myself seeing as they didn’t take me with them. But nooo the wife human gets out of the car with this funny big boot on her foot. I think I heard her call it a Mars boot or a Sun boot, something to do with the sky anyway. Got it, a Moon boot, that’s it. (Something about tripping on a curb. I think there was... alcohol involved.) Anyway, it’s going to be a busy time for a while. Spring is here, the sun will be shining, the days will be getting longer and the girls will be laying at their peak which means busy, busy, busy and to top it all off Old Judy is spending her days at the boundary fence just staring across the road. She’s done this before, just thinking of reasons as to why she should find a way out and cross the road. It didn’t end well last time, so I’ll have to keep an eye on her. Anyway till next time FREEDA. See more
