24.01.2022 So, the Out of The Blue Coffee Bus journey continues but I need your help. Some sanding and preparation needs to be done in order to get the old girl ready for painting. I have the bus at home but cannot carry out major work in that location, so we need to find a spot in an industrial area to work on this community/business/social enterprise project, and it needs to be cheap/free! If you know someone who has a business in the Midland/Midvale/Hazelmere area that can give me a... corner of their secure yard for free, I would appreciate the help. This has always been a long term project of love and it will be a way to serve the community, so now, as we start to make some headway into making it a reality, we really need help. There's even the option of having their company logo and details somewhere on the outside of the bus to advertise their support. Please ask around and let me know. Thanks in advance for your prayers, support and encouragement. JD. See more

23.01.2022 Even furniture shopping can be inspirational for me. Wishing I was a kid again!!!

23.01.2022 Managed to find Lorie's beautiful old bus in Oakford last week. Inspirational stuff. Check out his journey by looking for Twice As Nice Gallery Cafe and see the journey he's been on around Australia

19.01.2022 Well, the wheels keep on turning. People are getting on board with the vision, and others are lining up waiting to join us on the ride. Out Of The Blue Coffee Bus is now a registered business name and we have an ABN, so we can now start work in earnest on the setting up the business side of things and head towards our goal of hitting the road to connect, value, love and and respect people, simply by serving coffee and some choice food in our unique Double Decker Bus. There's... still a lot of work to be done to restore this old girl and fit it out for it's new purpose, but the gears are turning and the road is set before us. I did a little dance of thanks yesterday, when the ABN and Business Registration came through, and it was with heartfelt thanks to my newly appointed accountant Tony Donaldson, who has been a tremendous help in setting things up. Stay tuned for more updates soon as we drive forward into a new and exciting journey.

18.01.2022 By the way, if you would like to hop on board and join the journey as we refit this bus as a coffee shop to connect people, I'd love to hear from you. If you have some expertise in any area to do with buses, food vans, auto-electrical fitting and lighting, plumbing, window fitting, flooring, or any other items that you think will be of assistance, please be in touch. Also, if any businesses can help with equipment, items, machines, cabinet fitting, fridges, benches, or anything else that we might need, and would like to become a sponsor of the bus in some way, we can talk about the option of getting your business name and logo on the bus somewhere to let the public know that you are part of this incredible journey. Please PM me.

16.01.2022 Now, I don’t mean to put the cart before the horse, or even the bus before the bullock for that matter, but I’ve been quite excited recently, and I need to keep you posted on what is happening and what’s to come. It’s been a productive week for the Out Of The Blue Coffee Bus Project. There have been some wonderful people who have contacted us to help see this vision come to fruition. I have had a couple of very encouraging meetings with individuals who have expertise in areas...Continue reading

14.01.2022 Well, I found this link today from 4 years ago. Was nice to be reminded of where it started and remember the support shown by many. Some things have changed and be redefined since then, but it's still happening, albeit slower that I thought back then. The story from Eternity News and the many people who were generous at the time and have been waiting since then is much appreciated. . https://www.eternitynews.com.au//get-board-mobile-cafe-bus/

13.01.2022 If you've ever wondered why I bought my big yellow Double Decker Bus, here's a short video on why Junction Coffee set up in Oklahoma City. This is just about the same vision as the one I have been given for here in Perth Western Australia. So inspired by these guys. https://youtu.be/V8BY-bAB-aA

12.01.2022 Just returned from an awesome meeting of like minded and supportive people for the Neighbourhood Hub. An opportunity to showcase the bus and the vision. Many great contacts and connections, and encouragement and support. Nice to take the Old Dame out for a run too.

10.01.2022 Hi everyone. Just a quick update, as I have been silent for a little while. Stripping the paint off the bus has been a long and slow process, not helped by me working away from home for 4 out of the last 6 weeks. My job has taken me back and forth to Geraldton and also down to Esperance and Albany so I have not been able to do much on the bus. It has however, allowed me to earn some much needed money which will hopefully allow me to get a few things done soon. I've got 4 or... 5 more Geraldton trips to go before the end of the project up there in mid December, so come Christmas and new year I might be able to get stuck in again. Would appreciate your prayers and support as I continue to follow the vision I have to turn this bus into something special for the community. The Out Of The Blue Coffee Bus will be so much more than just a coffee shop on wheels. It will be a meeting place, a chill out area, and a place of respect, hope, and love. To be unique, special, novel, and welcoming will take a lot of planning and work. My heart is to value and respect all people and to provide a place that provides great coffee and lots of love. Watch this space for future updates as we drive forward with this project and go on a spectacular journey. And if you want to hop on board in some way, please get in contact with me. Blessings and love as always. JD. Out Of The Blue Coffee Bus Project. See more

08.01.2022 Going to a Neighbourhood Hub Seminar this Saturday so giving the "Old Dame" a little clean. This meeting is a chance for visionaries and small groups to showcase their ideas and experiences along with networking and encouraging each other. Great initiative. https://theneighbourhoodhub.org/

05.01.2022 Did a little dance at home yesterday after receiving the official email from ASIC with the welcome letter and Business Registration Certificate for Out Of The Blue Coffee Bus. Not a small thing really, as I've never stepped out like this before and so it's both a daunting and exciting time. So the wheels are in motion and the project is cruising along at a sedate speed, but the road ahead is proving to be relatively smooth mainly because of the friends and colleagues and prof...essionals who have jumped on board. Projects like this can seem like a juggling act with an egg, an apple and a bowling ball, (there's a classic clip of that on YouTube by the way), but because I've never mastered juggling, I know I am unable to do this on my own. So, there are some steps, and phases, and plans afoot, that all need to be done gradually. We're investigating options for the sanding and painting of the bus, and then there's the whole plumping and electrical issues that need to be looked at before the fit out starts. One other goal at this early stage of the journey, is getting a logo that reflects the vision of this coffee driven enterprise. With that in mind, I am now looking for a Graphic Designer to help in that area, I already have one idea for a logo, however, I am open to suggestions and ideas from people who have an artistic influence and the an expertise in designing an eye catching logo that really announces what we will be all about. If you are that person or can point me in the right direction, please get in touch, and we'll investigate options. See more

05.01.2022 Been trying out a sandblasting attachment on the Karcher. It works, but its a long slow process. Will look at options. Cost of sand and time versus getting it done professionally.

04.01.2022 Attending this event on Saturday which is showcasing many different groups, micro-churches and individuals who have a vision to serve their community in some way. It's an opportunity to seek, network, encourage, support, learn, ask questions, look at helping, and talk to like minded people who are reaching out beyond themselves to help others. If you're in the South Perth area on Saturday lunchtime, drop in and check it it out. We hope to have the Out of The Blue Coffee Bus Project there as well, so you can see the destination for the refit and the road ahead.

04.01.2022 (The photos in this post are not of my bus, but show some buses from around the world where the ideas have been implemented in different ways, showing the possibilities.) The Beatles sang about The Long and Winding Road, and it's a journey that can sometimes have a few blind spots along the way, and maybe a few laybys where you are forced to stop and rest. Which is why it's been a bit quiet here for the last couple of weeks. The weather hasn't been the best to get out there ...and really begin sanding and working on stripping the paint of the old girl, and so we've been looking at what it will take to get it to the point of being ready for repainting. A couple of good stories though, in that while funds have been very low due to no work and some small hiccups with Centrelink, I have been able to purchase an air powered sander and borrow an air compressor unit, so I've been experimenting with that. This has been recommended by a friend who has had previous experience preparing a few aluminum clad buses for painting, and he says it's a lot better than the home sandblasting that I was attempting. Of course, if an industrial sandblasting company is available to do it for free for the cause, with their logo ending up somewhere on the bus, that will probably be a better option. Hopefully, the financial side of things will change soon with some work possibly coming my way in the next couple of months and some help from other areas. On the business set up end of things, we've set up a business bank account, and are now investigating domain names. There are business grants we are looking into as well, but they are a slow process, but we will persevere. Other background ideas we've been working on include some of the flooring options again and what colours we might do the interior, along with getting some contacts to work on the logo. I must admit, that sometimes I feel like it's bigger than Ben Hur, but we are slowly chipping away at what we can. There have also been some amazingly wonderful contacts made though a Neighbourhood Hub Group which is networking groups, churches, and people with great visions, to help encourage and equip them so they can get expertise from others where they don't have it themselves. So, thanks again for your prayers and support in this, because it's a journey that is not one I can take alone. The long and winding road ahead can only be taken with people like yourselves who are willing to hop on board and come along for the ride. So if you feel that the long and winding road is leading to your door, and you want to get a ticket and get on board, please PM me at some point. See more
