24.01.2022 It's Women's health week so thought we would share this information from the APA

24.01.2022 Based on the weekend's events, the CHO has recommended the use of masks in primary health care settings where social distancing cannot be maintained. For us, this means that from tomorrow, we will be wearing masks in our clinical consultations where we feel we won't be able to maintain a safe distance.

24.01.2022 As #MigraineAwarenessWeek comes to a close, we want to chat about the 'pandemic headache'. Roger O'Toole, APAM, Director and Senior Clinician at the Melbourne ...Headache Centre, said his clinic experienced some of the busiest months in over a year, due to an influx of pandemic headaches and people seeking advice on how to treat the condition. Robert has treated headaches, migraines and related disorders exclusively for over a decade, and was not entirely surprised by the number of people making enquires following pandemic-related lifestyle challenges. 22.01.2022 BAREFOOT LIFTING!!! Do you lift without shoes on? If yes then we want to hear from you. Walk around any gym these days and just about everyone deadlifting (and squatting) will have their shoes off. The question is, just like lifting belts, is this just a craze that everyone is copying or do you have a solid understanding of what effect (if any) this is having on your training?... We are going to write a blog on this really soon but we would love to gain an insight into where people's knowledge is at on this issue before we do so that we can provide the best information in the best way. So if you train without shoes on in the gym then comment below with why you do so that we provide the best information for you all. We would love to hear from you Keep lifting

21.01.2022 If youre looking to ease back into physical activity, your local physio can create a personalised fitness program to prevent injuries and get you back on the green. https://choose.physio/physical-activity #choosephysio

21.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there.

20.01.2022 Just another timely reminder that if you are feeling unwell we ask that you stay home and do not attend your physiotherapy session or class. Speak with your doctor about getting tested or go straight to a public health fever clinic. We are more than happy to help you re-schedule your appointment. QLD is doing great, but we must remain vigilant. The safety of our community is our priority so we will continue to be strict on restricting access to our clinic to those that are unwell.

18.01.2022 We need to change how we talk about the management of lower back pain. Exercise works, but we now know that the modality of exercise does not matter. We need to stop telling people their pain is from a weak core and we need to just get them moving again.

17.01.2022 Should you have an injection for your shoulder pain?

17.01.2022 R U Ok? #2020 #ruokday

17.01.2022 Its netball season which unfortunately means we are seeing some ankle injuries in the clinic and likely we will see more. Thankfully, Physio, exercises and a good brace can get you back playing again. We are here to help.

15.01.2022 REDLANDS HOLIDAY FOR QLD SHOW MONDAY 10th of August 2020 Our clinic will be closed on Monday 10th August 2020 for the QLD Show (EKKA) public holiday. ... We will be open on Friday 14th of August 2020.

13.01.2022 Unfortunately our predictions were right. Last week we had 2 people present with gym related injuries from lifting too much too soon on their return to training. Dont let this be you. We can help you with ideas on load management https://youtu.be/9s74M-mKXTA

12.01.2022 Pain is often the first symptom to settle down but rehab does not stop there, in fact, in a lot of cases, we are just getting started.

12.01.2022 Just a reminder that we are open today, Friday 14th August 2020 from 8:00 til 4:30pm.

12.01.2022 Based on the weekends events, the CHO has recommended the use of masks in primary health care settings where social distancing cannot be maintained. For us, this means that from tomorrow, we will be wearing masks in our clinical consultations where we feel we wont be able to maintain a safe distance.

12.01.2022 We have had a cancellation for massage on Saturday morning with Ross which means we have 1 spot left for this week for a rare Saturday appointment. :) 10:15am Saturday 25th July. 60 min spot available. Get in quick, first in, first served.

11.01.2022 Face masks As primary health care providers we have been asked by the state Chief Health Officer to wear masks during consultations where we cannot safely distance from you. This advice came in yesterday and is in response to the current cluster that started at the youth detention centre. As noted by QLD health we are currently in a risky period. ... As a minimum we expect masks to be recommended for the next 10 to 14 days until the full extent of this cluster is known. Take care and stay safe. We are still here to help with your aches and pains.

11.01.2022 Do you have pain on the outside of your ankle ? This is might not be just a sprain Too often we see patients with pain on the outside of their ankle who tell us that they thought it was just a sprain and thought it would go away. Whilst lateral ankle sprains are really common, there are other structures in the outside of the ankle that can cause pain. ... So if you have pain on the outside of your ankle that has not improved, and if you dont really recall doing anything to cause an injury then our advice is to see us for an assessment as it might not be a sprain at all.

10.01.2022 When was the last time you had a massage? This year has been stressful. Home schooling, self-isolation and working from home, it is no wonder that many of us are feeling tired, stressed and sore. Remedial massage can help, so do yourself a favour and treat yourself. Your body will thank you for it.

10.01.2022 Tradies definitely need to make sure they look after their bodies.

09.01.2022 Archies are in stock and ready for summer. Grab yourself a pair in clinic today. $35

09.01.2022 Its Womens health week so thought we would share this information from the APA

08.01.2022 There are numerous potential health benefits for women who exercise during and after pregnancy. After all, childbirth is often compared to a marathon and theref...ore, preparation should be considered. To coincide with #WomensHealthWeek, Vice-chair of Queensland chapter of the Womens, Mens and Pelvic Health group Brooke Dobo, APAM, and Mens and Pelvic Health Physiotherapist Tory Toogood, MACP, contribute five evidence based practice points about the benefits of exercise during and after pregnancy. This #infographic is proudly brought to you by the Physiotherapy Research Foundation (#PRF) supporting research translation. 07.01.2022 Today is World Physiotherapy (physical therapy) day. Each year this day is marked by theme. This year the obvious focus is on the role of Physiotherapy in the management and recovery from Covid-19. To our colleagues working in public and private health respiratory clinics, this year you have really proven your value. ... Happy World Physiotherapy Day!!

06.01.2022 We have seen some crazy claims out there lately. We are here to help, whenever you are ready. Here is how. If you like what we do, then get in touch 07 3822 8879

06.01.2022 Plantar fascia pain is annoying. . We see lots of patients that are frustrated by this condition. Often they have tried expensive orthotics and maybe even rounds of shockwave therapy but still have pain. The issue is often that only the symptoms have been treated. Research now suggests that high load exercise prescription for the plantar fascia is effective. Watch on for more information.

06.01.2022 Thinking Out of the Box to develop an exercise program for a client. @katiemasseyphysio always finding the best solutions for her clients.

05.01.2022 Thankfully none of these locations are in the local Redlands area but this is a reminder that we all need to remain vigilant so we can continue to suppress Covid-19 here in Queensland. Please review the below information from QLD health in regards to the new cases identified today and as has always been the in case, if you are unwell with any symptoms or concerned about exposure, Get tested.

05.01.2022 A really quick video showing a shoulder exercise I use for patients with shoulder pain when we want to move beyond bands and start progressing back to weights and overhead movements. Shoulders are an area that can really get sore when we increase loading too quickly. With everyone now getting back to the gym, its important to have good shoulder strength and smart programming. Thats where we can help.

05.01.2022 We are definitely strong advocates for conservative management of meniscus tears whenever possible for a multitude of reasons. Articles like this one is why we have that opinion here at Out of the Box Physiotherapy https://bjsm.bmj.com//early/2020/08/27/bjsports-2020-102813

04.01.2022 The Missing link in your shoulder rehabilitation If you have shoulder pain that wont go away read on. As physiotherapists, we see a lot of patients with painful shoulders. Usually this pain has been around for some time and is not getting any better. Often our patients have been elsewhere and tried trigger point releases, massage, and even some theraband exercises but frustratingly they are still in pain. Unfortunately, too often we hear from patients that they have b...een told their shoulders are just tight. Sure they might be, but fixing the tightness wont offer a long term solution (you might liken it to simply putting a bucket under a leaking tap). In our clinic we often talk about how when it comes to shoulders, two shoulders with the same diagnosis can require two different treatment and rehabilitation protocols. Some patients have a great outcome from a cortisone injection, many do not. Some patients respond well to trigger point releases around the shoulder, some do not. But the common theme we do see is that all shoulders need some form of strengthening (and by shoulders, we mean more than just the rotator cuff). Exercises done in shoulder rehabilitation need to be more than just therabands. This is a good start in a lot of cases but we need to think more functional and think about pull, push and press movements in addition to rotation. Where the challenge lies is that a loading protocol that works for one patient, might not work for another. But the good news is we keep adjusting until we find the sweet spot. So if you have been struggling with shoulder pain; been told that your pain is due to tightness and perhaps even tried cortisone injections to no avail, then we need to chat so that we can start loading the shoulder again and remember, a healthy shoulder is a strong shoulder.

03.01.2022 1 place available in Physio Strong circuit starting this Saturday.

03.01.2022 If you are a physio looking to work in a modern, fully equipped clinic with everything you need to succeed, then we are looking for our next physio to help us grow in 2021. #physiojob #physio #Birkdale #strengthandrehabgym

02.01.2022 One of the best parts of our clinic is our in-house rehabilitation and conditioning gym. This means that we are able to provide rehabilitation for a whole range of conditions including back pain, shoulder pain, post operative recovery from Hip, Knee and Shoulder surgery, ACL rehabilitation. We can even work with you to just get you a little fitter and healthier and help manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, arthritis and obesity.

01.01.2022 We wrote a blog about this very issue two weeks ago, but you can never be reminded too many times.

01.01.2022 Physio Strong is back Our Physio Strong Exercise classes are able to run again. It has been so great to see everyone get back into their exercise. It has been so good to have our gym vibe back. Many people are now re-thinking how and where they exercise. Busy, crowded gyms are falling out of favour with many people (and for good reason). ... We have always limited our class sizes to ensure distancing. We have always wiped down our equipment after use. We have always kept our clinic extremely clean and sanitised, its just what we do. If you want to change up how you exercise this year, then get in touch about our physio strong exercise classes and our physio movement and conditioning programs. We have options to suit all.
