25.01.2022 Hey Kowanyama, you may have noticed that the community gathering place is now ready! OTK volunteers gave of their time and FRRR provided a grant for materials to put in place a great community area for all to use. It has seating for around 40 people - a rain and sun shelter, a brazier, fireplace and a firepit with special cooking stones where you can heat up the stones with fire and then cook your ashes damper straight on the stones with ash on top. We've also planted more trees in the area, fixed the fences and gate to keep the bulls out and the coin operated BBQ is working again - just needs a gold coin to work and money goes to the church for the power. If you end up using the space or enjoying it please take some pics or make some comments and tag us @Out there Kowanyama -OTK Hope you enjoy it and use it well!!

22.01.2022 Another great weekend taking these wonderful kids into the great outdoors for a break from boarding and the pressures of schooling far from home. As always, as well as great healthy fun we had some great chats about life, school, peer pressure, healthy choices and their life journey in general. Thanks to Mary MacKillop Today for helping us continue our mentor weekends this year and also to Macpac for providing the kids with some hiking boots, sleeping bags, water bottles , supporting them to enjoy the great outdoors.

15.01.2022 Very proud of this wonderful young Kowanyama lady who recently won an award ( another one!) at her presentation night. We look forward to seeing her at our mentor weekends again next year.

06.01.2022 This amazing young lad made us so proud - overcoming a lot to advance several years worth of work in one - winning the McKinnon Family Shield Award in the process! Sheer determination and a focus on self-improvement and learning from mistakes got him there along with supportive family, friends and amazing school.

04.01.2022 Was very proud of one of our young primary boarders who has been really keen to share his culture with his classmates. Recently he gave a powerpoint presentation to his class on different aspects of his remote home and his Kowanyama aboriginal culture. He showed them examples of crafts, tools and local plants and has even been teaching his mates some Kunjen language names for bush medicine from a book I had by Old lady Wason from Kowanyama.

02.01.2022 A lot of the boarding kids ended up going home early thanks to a very disrupted crazy COVID year so ended up missing out on our last camping weekend but still had a chance to encourage and relax with these boarders who've worked very hard this year and made some great progress.

01.01.2022 Great visit to the Cairns Aquarium which was not only fun but super educational! And finished off the day with a swim with the goggles in a natural 'aquarium'.
