The market has recently been revitalised and refreshed with new areas such as "Farmers Ring Road" and the very popular "Food Court". This week the fabulous Jai will be performing on the stage in the Food Court area from 11.00am til 1.00pm. Don't forget "Arts & Crafts" section is just a few steps away. At a time, when so many people have suffered poor health, lost employment, lost income, and an inability to come together for life events, that were unable to go ahead. An inability to visit family and friends to care and support each other has touched us all... Along with plenty of other farm fresh seasonal produce for your weekly shop. The Golden Egg, Ricardos Tomatoes and Pure Local Honey produce can be found in the undercover pavillion in Bays 1 & 2. "Little Sprouts" playcentre is now up and running - back to basics, drawing, lego, blocks, chalkboard, cubby house and kitchen. Just like yesteryear ! Our weekly entertainment is "The Afterparty Duo" located within the "Food Court" on our new stage. They will be playing from 10.30am til 1.30pm. Maybe, even put together a special basket of goodies... Drop by and see Ivan from The Bloom Barn or Patrick from Kemp Creek Flowers to pick up some gorgeous flowers for your mother. After all, make sure you're the favourite child ! As always, safety is paramount to our stallholders and customers and have now redesigned the layout of stalls further down the market. Food vendors have now been spaced out even further to allow for social distancing. Come down to the market and grab some farm fresh produce to spoil your mother for Sunday..... While Queenslanders, South Australians, Western Australia, ACT, Northern Territory take a more reasonable approach to relaxing (picnics in parks no less, sitting on distanced park benches etc - Gee who would of thought sunshine and open air would be bad for the viruses - Florence Nightingale for one in 1860) we in NSW are still in lock down. So the best we can do is provide the farmers for you to put together a special basket of goodies for Mum on Mother's Day..... Maria River Distillery has a very limited number of their Cream Limoncello available. They only release these a few times a year. Creme Limoncello is a creamier version of their traditional Limoncello. The Bloom Barn will have plenty of flowers to choose from...so flowers are covered. Even more... stallholders have been spaced out this weekend, with larger vendors finding their new home out on the centre ring. Bulga Oranges and Kemp Creek Flowers have been moved off the walkway and can be found very close by. The beautiful family from Master Gozleme due to their popularity, have been moved further down the back of the market to allow for social distancing. Zentient Culture will be making its debut at Newcastle Farmers Market tomorrow, already a firm favourite at its sister market at Gosford Farmers Market. Stock your fridge with organic, craft kombucha and taste the difference. Located in the 2nd undercover bay opposite Valley View Pork. A reminder that Nan's Dumplings has now extended to frozen dumplings to cook at your convenience at home. Located down near Gluten Free Donuts. Don't forget to use the hand sanitisers at all entry points and adhere to the social distancing measures of 1.5 metres. Come out and check out our NEWLY DESIGN...ED LAYOUT, the positive feedback has been incredible. It is certainly here to STAY. Plenty of room to walk around and enjoy "Open Air Therapy". This Sunday we have the return of El Gringo Argentinian Food Vendor along with new vendors "The Tea Collective" and "The Crafty Pit" (breakfast options, burgers & loaded nachos). Of course, they will be found in our new "Food Court" area, which is located down the back of the market. Plenty of seating and umbrellas - a great friendly relaxed vibe is naturally emerging. Within the next several weeks we will be building a stage for musicians to entertain you whilst you enjoy your brunch or lunch. Plenty of farmers' can now be found out on the centre ring - space galore for social distancing. 04.01.2022 There is a disconnect between how we want farmers to operate, and what we as consumers are willing to pay for their product. There are a couple of factors here.... But mainly, we need to understand the difference between quality, nutrient dense foods and the cost of producing them to that of factory produced food. Meat is difficult to differentiate. We know a Ferrari is better than an old Datsun because we can see the difference, but we look at two lamb legs and who knows??? Cheap meat is cheap for a reason, somebody, somewhere has cut corners or highjacked the natural system, its either the animal or the farmer who has suffered - either in reduced price or in living conditions. Time and again, we hear, 'that lamb is too expensive!'. Is it too expensive? or are we being unrealistic about the cost of the production of quality nutrient dense food. We need to get closer to our food source, grow what food we can in our own backyards. When we understand it, we won't waste it and we will be more grateful to those who supply our tables and therefore be prepared to pay for it. Check out our "NEW" food court, further down the back of the market - it was a great hit with the customers with seating and umbrellas available for your comfort. We are in the midst of designing a new timber stage for customers to enjoy a varied mix of music from local entertainers. Don't forget plenty of farmers are now located out on the centre ring for ease of social distancing. Our newest vendor "Farmer Joe" is located next to Organic Feast. ETNA Woodfire Pizza is returning to the market this Sunday on a weekly basis and is a welcomed addition to the Food Court. Candela had a successful launch last Sunday, if you are a lover of high end candles that last up to 80 hours with incredible fragrance then go pay a visit - located right next to "Little Sprouts" playcentre in the undercover area. We have some new and interesting vendors making their debut in the coming weeks'. We have spoken with Jorge from El Gringo today and he will be returning next Sunday. He has certainly been missed.
