21.01.2022 Forgot to share birthday pics this year - I was showered with love, pampering, delicious food and lots of hugs and kisses from my crew. 16.01.2022 I’ve been reflecting on what I miss the most since the start of lockdown and without a doubt it has been not being able to see friends (and hug them!) and having the freedom to travel. Doing video calls or zoom is a great option but it no way compensates for face-to-face interaction. Being able to travel anywhere is such a gift that I will never take for granted again. If I had to choose one place to visit in the next 6 months or whenever we can travel again, it would have to be beautiful Queenstown in New Zealand. It was breathtaking in every way. 12.01.2022 Waking up to grey clouds and rain has a habit of dampening my mood but not today. Today there no rush or urgency in completing tasks for home learning or micromanaging anyone so I’m making some time for my mind. I’ve developed a habit of reading 3 books at once - I guess it’s an indicator of my scattered thoughts but it’s fun because I feel like I’m reading more. This weeks picks are quite varied: I’m re-reading the Harry Potter series which I started last week - I’m now reading the Chamber of Secrets; I’m re-reading Tuesdays with Morrie (absolutely brilliant book with beautiful insight into what makes life precious) and Force of Nature (crime fiction, my new love). 04.01.2022 Healing my toxic relationship with food starts now. It has taken me years to finally realize that weight loss is not just about what I eat. Mindset is just as critical. So too is my relationship with food, which I’ve finally acknowledged, is very toxic. I thought my weakness was sweets and carbs and that simply abstaining from them and doing some exercise would fix that. After much soul searching I discovered that not only was I using food for comfort but bizarrely as a way t...o punish myself. Self sabotage at its finest. My dad taught me that we should only use food as fuel - the whole eat to live not live to eat. At the same time, I grew up with a diabetic mum who struggled to manage her sugar intake and spent most of her adult life yo-yo dieting. It’s no secret which methodology I inherited. I am by no means blaming my mum for my battles with food, rather acknowledging that it did play a huge role in my food mindset overall. I also acknowledge that this is my journey and to not compare myself to anyone else. Self esteem and low self worth have also been huge triggers for binge eating and deliberately making bad food choices. Right now I want to make a conscious effort to re-wire or rewrite or simply heal this toxic relationship with food so it can serve me and my body better. I acknowledge that I have a lot to work on and it will be a long and winding journey but I honestly think it’s time I honour this body I have been given and finally treat it with the love and respect it deserves. My faith teaches that our body and our health are blessings given in trust and that we have a moral responsibility to protect it from harm. I thought I would to start by revisiting this book by @thichnhathanh and @drliliancheung on mindful eating to awaken my food consciousness. While some are skeptical about the consumption of essential oils, internal usage of essential oils has actually been in practice for centuries, and is not a mysterious new trend. People have successfully and safely consumed essential oils for many years, and the key to safe use is following proper safety guidelines. Like any substance, essential oils only present risks when used improperly or in incorrect amounts.... You likely already consume small amounts of essential oils in your diet. Because essential oils are taken from plants, fruits, and natural substances, the body is well equipped to process them. Fruits, plant parts, and extracts are already a regular part of our diets, which makes it safe for the body to consume essential oils internally and process them properly. Like other things we consume, essential oils are ingested through the digestive system, enter the bloodstream, and can then be metabolised by the organs. Because our body is able to easily process and metabolise essential oils, cooking with oils is a simple way to enrich the food we eat every day. Just make sure you choose essential oils that are safe for internal use (always read the label).
