25.01.2022 Hi, I hope you are all staying healthy. I just wanted to say thank you so much to everyone who has shared or liked my page. I am both excited and terrified to be beginning this new adventure particularly in these uncertain times. As Disability Services are considered essential I will be continuing to support clients, adhering to strict hygiene practices and physical distancing recommendations. There are many innovative ways to provide services, please do not hesitate to get in touch if you or a loved one needs support.
24.01.2022 An immersive Girls Weekend for the Overcoming Obstacles gals! A weekend filled with laughter and friendship, a beautiful walk on the beach whilst meeting some of nature’s amazing creatures along the way. Also a trip to our Lakes region is not without fish n chips by the water, a delicious stop off for some ice cream and some friendly competition in the shape of a game of mini golf.. with Brianna scoring a hole in one and winning a free game!! ... Big smiles all round

Katrina had a brilliant day exploring historical Walhalla cemetery for some very interesting outdoor activities and history lessons and William cooked up a storm and got outdoors with a visit to beautiful Agnes Falls. Go team!

20.01.2022 Another super educational day today at Overcoming Obstacles!! This morning saw the gang kick off with learning Responsible Service of Alcohol. This again, is not only a brilliant certificate to hold in our resumes, but also a very good way to learn the importance and responsibilities of being an RSA holder. It also is a timely reminder of our obligations as responsible adults and alcohol with those underage. ... Then the afternoon session was learning all about table service and waiting skills!! Lots of discussions were held about table settings, waiting on customers, plate carrying, customer service and even some napkin folding practice! And don’t let us forget it was James’s BIRTHDAY!! Happy Birthday mate! We hope you had a fab day So of course we had cake Way to go Gang!! One more tomorrow : Safe Knife Handling! Have a lovely evening all

Brianna is working hard towards her goals of independent living with cooking sessions covering kitchen hygiene and food safety, recipe research and healthy diet choices. ... Bri is demonstrating the importance of hand washing before cooking in her pics today! Go Bri! Today we had Xmas on our minds of course and created some mini Christmas Puds!!

17.01.2022 A huge day for the gang at Overcoming Obstacles!!. The day started off learning all about food safety and hygiene. Equipping ourselves with the knowledge required to handle, store and cook food safely. A fantastic skill set to have, & not only to pop on resumes for hospitality based employment opportunities, but also to ensure we keep our food and food prepping areas safe and hygienic at home . ... The second half of the day was Barista skills!! The class were taken through all the steps required to make their favourite hot drink, but not before being shown the safe workings of the coffee machine, grinder and the equipment and methods required to make the perfect coffee! Well done to all involved!! See you tomorrow for the RSA morning session and Wait Skills in the afternoon. TAFE Gippsland

17.01.2022 Work hard. Play hard! I would like to welcome to the Overcoming Obstacles team Bec Ingram, pictured here supporting Morghan who is an absolute champion! I have been supporting Morghan with various skills and I am very excited to have Bec on board to assist. Bec is 21 years old and is training to be an OT. She currently attends Stetson University, Florida (online) and plays beach volleyball for the school. She grew up on a farm just outside of Maffra and loves to knit, craft, ...play guitar & sing. Bec has also recently completed the online component of Applied Behavioural Analysis therapy training and will be assisting with intervention for young people living with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Developmental Delay. 16.01.2022 Well Mother Nature may have changed her mood since some of these pics were taken, but we’re not letting a change of weather dampen our spirits!! While the sun shines so does Overcoming Obstacles!! Getting out and about exploring everything our amazing region has to offer!!... And when the mood outside turns, it doesn’t faze us, we are kicking goals with the Art Collective and Lego club!! An awesome way to express our creativeness whilst socialising with our peers. 13.01.2022 It was a perfect day for some sensory play and Mindfulness with this little champ using Natural Environment Teaching. NET utilises the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis to teach in the natural environment, the real world. ... Natural environment teaching leads to an individual being able to learn skills in one environment and generalise them to other environments. We have trained staff in this area and are happy to chat with anyone who thinks this might be the right kind of therapy for themselves or someone they know.

09.01.2022 Information regarding mask wearing: Lawful excuses or exceptions for not wearing a face covering A face covering is not required in some circumstances including:... Infants and children under the age of 12 years. A person who is affected by a relevant medical condition, including problems with their breathing, a serious condition of the face, a disability or a mental health condition. Persons who are deaf or hard of hearing, where the ability to see the mouth is essential for communication. Persons for whom wearing a face covering would create a risk to that persons health and safety related to their work, as determined through OH&S guidelines. Persons whose professions require clear enunciation or visibility of their mouth. This includes teaching or live broadcasting. Professional sportspeople when training or competing. If you are working on your own property with members of your household, but no staff or contractors are on site. When you are doing any exercise or physical activity where you are out of breath or puffing. Examples include jogging or running, but not walking. You must carry a face covering on you and wear it when you finish exercising. When directed to remove the face covering to ascertain identity. When you are travelling in a vehicle by yourself or with other members of your household. When consuming food, drink or medication, including when seated at a restaurant where permitted. When undergoing dental treatment or other medical care to the extent that the procedure requires that no face covering may be worn. During emergencies. You must carry a face covering with you when leaving home, even if you dont need to wear it while undertaking your current activity. For example, you can take your face covering off to eat or while you are running, but you must carry it with you and put it back on when you finish. I have a medical condition that prevents me from wearing a face covering, do I need a medical certificate stating I dont need to wear a face covering? You do not need a medical certificate stating that you have a lawful reason for not wearing a face covering. If you have a lawful reason for not wearing a face covering, you do not need to apply for an exemption or permit. If you are stopped by police, they will ask you to confirm the lawful reason you are not wearing a face covering.
