24.01.2022 Two weeks ago, I did a guerrilla interview with Jeremiah Johnson - AUS from Cairns, Queensland. The video of most of that interview went live here on Overheard Productions on Facebook. I'd love to give you an exact date, but FB usefully labels it as 'About 2 weeks ago'. The article went off to Trad And Now magazine earlier this week, and inshallah, that'll be hitting your newstands and letterboxes later in July 2020. But lucky you, you can get the textual version right her...e, right now (thank you, Norman Cook for the sequencing of those three words in a musical pop culture reference). Thanks to Jeremiah for his insights on indie music in the time of #pandemic. And thanks to Roz Pappalardo Music for her mighty, mighty good works with indie musicians as always and recently via The Kitchen Sessions. I'm currently pondering and investigating all manner of perspectives on this, so if you have some views or opinions, please add them in the comments or contact www.OverheardProductions.com via the website or by clicking the 'Contact Us' button on this Facebook page. https://overheardproductions.com//jeremiah-johnson-interv/ Bill Q. www.OverheardProductions.com/About

22.01.2022 "Je Veux Danser Tout L'été" by Yard of Blondes (USA/France). During #Lockdown #Lite here in #Darwin, I copped quite a bucketing when I made some observations about the music-related memes that started springing up like mushrooms. That's all very nice for you to laud your famous and mostly dead music faves, I mumbled, but how about local indie bands? How about your mates, many of whom are doing it tough?... I got ignored, or told to [truck] off and mind my own. It didn't stop me doing so, and requesting stuff I genuinely like. Today on Bastille Day, a shout out to Yard of Blondes in California. Sadly the audio cuts out before the French lyrics kick in. (One minute is what Instagram prefers.) But thank you ABC Darwin for supporting independent music, and for hunting this one down in quick time. Bill The Gypsy Bill The Gypsy, Australia ======================== [My French does not stretch as far as everything I just wrote, so it's over to Google Translate.] Bill The Gypsy Bill The Gypsy, Australia

21.01.2022 These past few months since about late March have been... well, to pinch my late mum's words, they'd try the patience of a saint. If I had a dollar for every time in the last 110 days I've flopped onto a chair or couch or into a pool, and wondered aloud, "Why the fuck do I even bother?" well, I'd retire tomorrow. Instead of in 376 days' time. Anyhoo, planning to recast a stack of interviews I've done with Darwin musos, it occurred to me this afternoon to posit this interrogat...ory utterance: Why? What possible motivation do I have right now to do that? So I came up with another idea: Overheard Productions Website Roulette. First, I tried plugging letters into the search function of the website, but that brought up the most recent articles, and nothing much is happening there. So next, I started with the first word of that classic English sentence which uses all the 26 letters/characters in the English language. The word 'the' turned up this article, and it also presented about 45 minutes' work to give it some much-needed tagging love. Because Meg Benson of Music Hunter, Blue Mountains being the consummate professional that she is, in the space of a 21 minute interview, she mentioned almost as many artists and venues. #Respekt With me cooling my heels on Lake Macquarie near to the foot of the Hunter Valley, and Meg from Katoomba in the chilly climes of the Blue Mountains of NSW, herewith our chat: https://overheardproductions.com//from-the-vault-music-hu/

19.01.2022 Having a little overdue cry in the ute parked up on the Nightcliff Foreshore, releasing the emotions good, bad, traumatic, and exaltant from the past 108 days, seven years, 53.96 years. 17.01.2022 I'm a bit of an Energiser bunny and usually just go and go and go. But yesterday after venturing out for a few errands, I hit a massive wall at about 2pm and spent the next 18 hours in bed, something I used to do for a few days at a time when I needed to re-energise. It was... fvcking horrendous! ... Typically when I stop for any length of time, my body catches me up on all the misuse I do to it physically, and this morning I'm staggering around like an 80 year old. Which is why I typically *don't* stop. Right now, I'm pretty burnt out and frazzled from bashing my head against various brick walls, and a bit like running the City to Surf - it *does* feel incredibly good when you stop. So I'm taking a couple of days off from the thankless, mostly fruitless task of trying to get Top End Social Connexions - A Not For Profit NT Social Group to work - apart from raising some cash for Foodbank NT. Time off from spending hours on artist interviews on Overheard Productions and Overheard Music: Sharing Indie And Other Discoveries, and from every other pro-bono, volunteer pursuit. They're fun but they absolute drain my energy banks. I'll be over on Bill the Housesitter and on www.BillTheHousesitter.com/About for a couple of days while I try to breathe some life back into it, and spending time with my flatmate's dog 'Turmeric'. Back later in the week. Bill Q. www.BillTheHousesitter.com/References

17.01.2022 Continuing a series of 'From The Vault' articles from the Overheard Productions website, based on the random generator of plugging individual words from the old typing test sentence 'The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog' into my website's search bar. After a few days' break, we're up to 'quick'. This word turned up an interview from not that long ago, a chat I had with drummer TP Heffernan from Darwin metal band Summit, AU.... Summit have been a little quiet lately during #pandemic, however, one day last month I caught up with TP for nine holes of rather riotously varied states of competence (TP: pretty good, me: pretty bloody average) at Darwin Golf Club, and I did learn that they were back in rehearsals that very night. So watch this space: https://www.facebook.com/SUMMITAU/ for news of future gigs. But for now, here's our chat from 2019 as Summit were preparing to go on the road for gigs up the east coast of Australia. Remember tours? Hopefully they're not completely a thing of the past. https://overheardproductions.com//darwin-muso-series-summ/

11.01.2022 On This Day in 2011. Having live music guests in the studio was something I always pursued. Shows seemed a bit dull and unfulfilling when it was just me, the CD players, and a mic.

10.01.2022 On This Day, 2011. Merry Muse, Canberra.

06.01.2022 A reminder for anyone who needs it.

05.01.2022 https://darwinfringe.org.au/event/art-in-times-of-survival/ Fascinating panel forum last night in Coconut Grove about the survival of art in the times of #pandemic, a part of the 2020 Darwin Fringe Festival. A mix of the scary and sad, the hopeful and inspirational. ... I've been pondering the threats and opportunities presented by this ever-changing world in which we live in (Paul MacArtney's words, not mine at the end there ) but it's always good to hear these ideas from more learnéd minds than mine, and expressed so eloquently. I hope there are some notes available after this one because the panellists spoke so passionately and knowledgeably on topics they've spent so much time immersed in and researching. It was a lot to take in, but so worth attending. I'm almost glad I couldn't find a pen to take notes because it was incredibly absorbing. I didn't want to take my focus away. Thanks to the Fringe and Darwin Free University. Darwin Fringe Festival events continue until Sunday 12 July: https://darwinfringe.org.au/ Bill Q.

03.01.2022 A reminder of the graft it took to get to 1000 followers here. The first 500 took a couple of years. The second 500? Nine years. I've officially given up asking friends to follow. One recently said I was putting people in a difficult position or some such by asking them to click on a blue thumb.... Right...

01.01.2022 Lucky enough to catch the album launch... um... two weeks ago? Sounds about right. Great bloke, great band, great music.
