23.01.2022 CHOKE. When attending this horse a few days ago, it occurred to me that call-outs for "choke" are almost always in the late afternoon or evening. Hungry horses, eating their evening feed quickly. Seems to occur more frequently when they are competing with paddock mates for food. The signs are coughing, stretching the neck, with feed and saliva coming out the nostrils. They sometimes initially look colicy. It is important to realise that the blockage in the oesophagus is al...most always low down, near the stomach. and not in the throat. Therefore DON'T PANIC!, the horse will not suffocate. Don't hose out their mouth. Don't rub their neck. Take the food away, and phone for veterinary advice. I find the feeds involved tend to be either hay, or traditional pellets. I find the pellets to be more difficult to clear. They seem to set like concrete in the oesophagus. See more

09.01.2022 A very robust mare crush constructed by a client. Impressive workmanship. For my own safety, my policy is only to scan mares when they are restrained in a suitably designed crush.

04.01.2022 I have just returned from this two day vet and farrier seminar at Muswellbrook. A lot of great information , particularly regarding the management of crooked legged foals.

02.01.2022 I couldn't agree more. The most useful therapy for equine wounds. It is interesting to see that there is evidence that water is as good as saline for washing wounds.

01.01.2022 Cute foal photos! Two fillies born here this week. Both AI. Chestnut by frozen semen, the bay chilled.
