21.01.2022 Wedding Reception Games #3 - SCAVENGER HUNTS Scavenger hunts may not be strictly seated table games, but they can be wonderful pre-dinner activities. This is especially true if you will be having a lot of children at the reception event, as it will give them something constructive and entertaining to do. You can run your scavenger hunt as a competition between individuals at the table or between tables. Options for the items to be found can take two forms. On one hand, you ma...y place various items around the reception hall or event venue and have them collected by guests. Alternatively, you can make a list of items that members of the table should try to collect from others at the party as a way to bring a mingling element into the game.

18.01.2022 Wedding Reception Games #4 - CREATIVE ACTIVITIES Creative games call on the table to work as a group or to be innovative to make something for the couple. You can have scrapbook pages for guests to write special messages on, or have blank cards for guests to create memento well-wishes for the couple. Both of these activities provide guests with something to keep themselves occupied while also making you nice souvenirs from the reception.... Have your guests write a poem for you and your new spouse. Arrange 4 x 6 cards with a starter line to be laid by each plate, and your guests can fill in the rest. Later, the table or the MC can collect some of them to read during dinner. This is good for both awww moments from the crowd and also sometimes some good humour if you request funny poems. Get photos of the couple made into puzzles for guests to assemble as a race or as simple entertainment. Puzzle photos like this are also nice to have if there are a lot of children, as this can give them something to do quietly at the table. Another fun creative table activity that can turn into during dinner entertainment is a captioning contest. For this activity, you will need several photos of the couple, a computer projector or overhead, and some markers or bits of paper. The photos are numbered and distributed around at the various tables. They can be engagement photos or photos from when the couple was younger. The table works together to come up with good captions for each photo, which are collected by a member of the bridal party at a designated time. Next, the photos with captions are shown and the audience can vote on such items as funniest caption, cutest caption, and so on.

15.01.2022 Wedding Reception Games - #1 - SKITS/SHOWS If you have hired entertainment for the evening, you can have them perform during the dinner. While most guests will be expecting background music, this can be a time for a comedian, magician, juggler or special dance performance. You can also ask members of the bridal party to prepare a small skit for this portion of the evening.... Slide shows are also popular. Many couples choose to do a montage of their lives together. However, you can put funny captions on your photos, or include pieces of trivia in your slide show to make it more entertaining and engaging for guests. Another option done by one couple was to hire a caricature artist to come in and do profiles of guests while they were at their table. In addition to being quite a novelty, it also provided guests with a souvenir of their time at the wedding party. If you prefer, you could have such a person in the front sketching the bridal party and have the image projected up for the audience to see as it was completed.

03.01.2022 Wedding Reception Games #2 - CENTREPIECE CONTESTS Another way to get the guests sharing while not distracting from the meal is to have hosted trivia. The MC or a member of the bridal party can ask each table questions about the bride or groom. The first person at the table to answer correctly gets to take home the centrepiece. Another variation on this is to have jars of coloured marbles placed at each table as they are being served. The guest who correctly guesses the number... of marbles in the jar gets to take home the centrepiece after the meal. If you prefer to keep your centrepieces, the jar can be filled with candies, with the winner keeping the jar. Yet another variation on this is a kind of scavenger hunt among the audience, with the possessor of the sought item earning a table centrepiece or other prize. You can ask the guests various questions, such as Who has a paper clip? or Who has an extra key to the groom’s apartment? The first person to produce the item being requested wins the prize.
