18.01.2022 Clarity of documentation is key to a successful project. Don't sign a building contract unless you're 100% certain your plans are correct, your finishes schedule complete and you understand your inclusions and exclusions clearly. Poor paperwork will cause confusion, unforseen costs and delay through the construction phase. If you're working through the pre-site phase and you're looking to sign your savings away it would pay to have an independent party review your contract for you. Feel free to get in contact if you think you need a hand.

14.01.2022 I recently saw a post on social media where a person was asking the general population whether it was worth spending $620 to upgrade the quality of the paint to be used on the walls of their new home. I was pretty disappointed to see that many people had advised the person that they were being ripped off! ...my response was as follows ...The market dictates that margins are increasingly low on items that are standard inclusions. Builders, their trades and the suppliers onl...y manage to make a good living on the back of selling upgrades. Yes, the cost difference to change this paint is roughly $200 but the costs you don’t see or consider are the administration and logistics behind effecting the change. This simple request will likely go to the administrator who will raise a variation, an Estimator who will alter the order and notify the site manager and then the site manager must ensure the change happens (or repaint the house if it doesn’t make it in time). I’m sure you guys don’t go to work for free; why should your builder?...also consider the cost of repainting your home in 5 years because you weren’t happy with paying $620 now. Don’t unnecessarily break your builders nuts on pricing... if you’re not sure you’ve been given a fair price send it through and I’m happy to let you know what’s involved and whether it’s fair and reasonable.

04.01.2022 Hi all. Long time no post . Anyone keen on taking a role as an Estimating manager in Adelaide??? The role advertised mentions they're happy to assist with relocation if required. Must be a shortage of experience on the south side. Contact [email protected] if you're interested.... In other news. Recently started playing with Planswift. Anyone out there got any experience with it??? Need a few pointers on setting up cost items. ...also. I'm withdrawing aggressively from Databuild. In particular the pricefile management aspect. Currently setting up Buildertrend which is web based and a pretty solid all-rounder but each item in my catalogue can only have one price which means multiple suppliers providing the same thing at different rates is a data handling nightmare. Anyone have any platforms (that aren't excel) that would work like Databuild. Preferably web based. #longshot

02.01.2022 Hi all. Please note that we've got our lucky couple of people for the Estimating and Pre Site roles. HUGE amount of interest. Must've been the awesome add I posted . Hope everyone out there is well and operating as close to normal as possible. Crazy times!

02.01.2022 Have a new build or a renovation project that you're planning and want to forecast and track costs.... Maybe my project budget spreadsheet will help? Have a look and feel free to provide some feedback. I've completed project estimates for a number of happy home owners who managed to make a success of their new builds and renovations using this tool and most importantly they got there on budget .... https://1drv.ms/x/s!AkBYFPJZcfdbge1PfmIuiHCxstuFyw
