23.01.2022 Live online sessions set in a group environment, working out at the same time as everyone else. A trainer to instruct, correct form and give out advice. You still get that push and not slack off which can easily happen with when working out on your own. Constant support throughout session. They say there is no I in team and thats exactly what its all about right? Were all in this together! Best community and community is everything right now even if its from a distance!

23.01.2022 There is no denying that getting up to train in the colder weather is a little bit tougher but lets face it, its got to be done. Its easy to make excuses and then youll realize its been weeks or months since you last trained. Some good reasons to stay motivated throughout winter... First of all youll NEVER regret the workout. In fact youll be chuffed with your self and feel happy from endorphins Summer bodies are earned in winter. Exercise is great for mental healt...h, naturally decreases anxiety, depression and negative mood. Beat the winter blues Boost your immune system- help keep those colds and flu away by keeping your cardio vascular system healthy. Train outdoors and getting some vitamin D! Some good reasons there, dont you think? If you are struggling, recruit a workout buddy to help keep you accountable. Find an awesome group to train with that will include the social aspect, banter and challenging workouts. You will always feel more motivated to push yourself if others around and joining in! 20.01.2022 Did someone say Friday night Fakeaway? Ingredients: Small wholemeal wrap 400g Turkey mince... Pasata Peppers Onion Chilli Powder Garlic Tsp. Olive oil Optional: Cheese Natural Yogurt Avocado Jalepenos To make: Fry Mince, peppers and onions on pan until browned. Add Pasata, garlic and chilli and simmer. In the meantime, Rub a very small amount of oil on wholemeal wrap and sprinkle with chilli and garlic. Put in oven for 5-10 mins (keep an eye). Cut the wrap into triangles (like tortilla chips). Serve the chilli mix on top and add toppings. *Can also be made with quorn or meat alternative.
20.01.2022 Mobility . . Don't use it, you lose it. .... . We don't talk about mobility much. We don't post about it. It's not very visually appealing. It definitely won't get as many likes or shares a bikini picture . . But it bloody matters... . . Can't touch your toes? Keep trying. Can't go below parallel in a squat? Keep squatting. Working at a desk with aches and pains. It takes 10 minutes. Lower back issues or hip problems? Have you tried this. Guess what running in NOT bad for your knees. The WAY you are running is bad for your knees. Ever tried to do physio rehab. It's BLOODY HARD!!! . . Try 3 x 30 minute sessions daily. Its pretty manageable 10 mins in the am, 10 mins pre gym and 10 mins in the evening. 19.01.2022 One of the hardest parts of creating change is GETTING STARTED. I know this from my own personal experiences and also from the perspective of many of our clients. The biggest regret everyone has (myself included) is taking the first step. The status quo however uncomfortable it is, is still the status quo and getting excited enough to take the first step can be scary and hard. Anyone that tells you otherwise is either full of crap, has never tried or has always been motivated... to train and eat well. Theres never going to be a perfect time to start but the process should be enjoyable as possible and you should NOT be overwhelmed with too much to do at once, setting you up to fail. 16.01.2022 From tomorrow Own it Fit is taking the proactive step of changing all our sessions to be all body weight due to current climate. We request you to please bring your own mat to training from tomorrow and observe a 5m personal space from your training buddies. The biggest advantage we have in this space is that we are outdoors and not confined by tight spaces and this means that we are able to keep everyone safe as houses! We are trying to source yoga mats but it will be a hug...e challenge to get one for everyone by Monday. If you do not have your own yoga mat and we havent been able to source new ones for everyone- we will give you the current mats and after the session its yours to keep. Please ensure to bring a towel to training also! As a small, independent, local business we rely and thrive on the support of you all and we appreciate your continued support, help and understanding over the coming weeks and months with this matter. Theres never been a more important time for a strong, healthy body and a strong, healthy immune system. 16.01.2022 Our OIF crew went white water rafting yesterday. It was perfect weather and a great bonding session. Billie and I also came along for the ride just so we could see our crew in action and have a good giggle especially when they fell in the water . It looked like so much fun. You can still exercise outdoors with safe distancing and practice good hygiene. 07.01.2022 Good news! Government restrictions have eased and we are now running small groups again of up to 10 people! (Following strict social distancing of course) We are also continuing to run sessions online as we know that not everybody is ready to train outdoors yet. Bad news... we are very limited on spaces!... More bad news... many people may have become isofat as I was told by a former client yesterday. She wanted to kick the tyre she had accumulated over last couple months which she attributed to spending more time picking at the fridge than her home desk. This resulted in her wearing sweat pants as her jeans no longer buttoned... Best news ever... she is starting her 21 day kickstart on Monday which includes unlimited training both online and in person, her very own nutrition program and nutrition coach and accountability to ensure she stays on track. 07.01.2022 This evening, Corona resulted in the govt making a few more changes which will now affect us and our clients. As scary as the new phase is, its also a little exciting to see what we can accomplish in an online capacity. Despite knowing that this evening was potentially coming, it still doesnt alleviate the shock when it actually happens. Melinda Quinlan started Own it Fit 8 years ago and its been something we have been immersed in for so long that its part of both our ide...ntities at this stage. Thankfully for the last few weeks we have been implementing our online plan. Firstly, we want to thank you so much for your support until now. And thank you for your support with our online sessions also! We will continue to support you and would like you to continue to support us. Due to the governments latest announcement this evening and request that public groups are no more than 2- we are going to do our bit and make adjustments to how we deliver our programs to you. This means that effectively immediately, we will now deliver our program completely online until further notice. This change is not forever. We will all work together to make the best of this and ensure our community stays together and continues to be fit and healthy. Its genuinely never been more important to be fit, healthy and socially connected. Social distancing is NOT social isolation and we will ensure thats not the case for ANY Own it Fitter. I also understand that change is difficult but lets not knock it until youve given it a try! We have had considerable success and improvements made to our live online sessions over the last 2 weeks thankfully. Over the next while, you can either make progress or excuses. 07.01.2022 Good evening all . . Amanda has been doing a fundraiser for the last 22 days and is on the home straight for lifting 100 Tonnes for the month of June ... The Fundraiser is to raise vital funds for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice (an Irish Charity). Amandas family used the Hospice and Pallitive care services just before her Dad Denis died of pancreatic Cancer. Due to Covid 19, most fundraisers could not be held and this charity suffered a lot. 07.01.2022 Im Amanda, Nutritionist with Own It Fit. . . It took my Dad dying 5 years ago for me to finally find true happiness... .... . Not that I wasnt happy before that. But his death made me question everything. I really went on a journey of self discovery . . Just because you are living doesnt mean youre truely alive . . So what changed when my Dad died: 1. I appreciated life so much more Life is precious and a gift. . 2. I discovered travel - I always thought I didnt want to travel. I believed I was a home bird and I didnt need it. My trip to Thailand with the girls was a game changer. I cannot thank my friends enough for helping me find travel. . 3. Fell in love with myself - I was ridiculously self conscious. I dont have good skin so I always covered it up. I dont like my teeth so I wouldnt smile properly in pictures. I stopped focusing on all the negative aspects of my appearance. . 4. I stopped caring about what people think of me. I remember years ago saying to my sister: how will you cover up those tattoos on your wedding day? And she replied: She loved them and shell want them to be seen. I had this perception in my head that tattoos were unattractive and should be covered up. I now see them as self expression and see my body as a canvas . 5. I stopped working towards what I considered success to be. I remember after college I was so embarrassed that I worked in a restaurant. I was a fully qualified nutritionist working in a restaurant. I believed I was too good to work in that restaurant. Why? Because my peers and societal norms led me to believe I was better than that. I worked so hard for a good Leaving Cert to be top 10 in my school. Why? Because thats what everyone else did. The last few years I have been so content in my work, not because of how much money I earn but because I truely love my job. I dont put pressure on myself to be something Im not. . 6. I quit looking for a perfect body - When I was a teenager, I thought skinny was the perfect body type. My early 20s - lean was IN. I now realise there is no such thing as a perfect body. But Im happy in the one Im in. . 7. I stopped comparing myself to people - comparison truely is the thief of joy. . See more

And whilst we cant control whats happening in the world with Corona Virus, there is something we can control. Our health and well being. ... 04.01.2022 3 weeks ago I started something Ive been shy/reluctant of doing for about 3 years. Before starting I was scared, reluctant, nervous and excited all in one. A total beginner. But of course there was nothing to worry about... I needed some help in getting back into fitness after a little hiatus and this seemed like a good idea. 2 birds 1 stone... get fit and do what Ive wanted to do...... Its hard. Im very very very incompetent and will take years to gain a decent level of competency... but if I had started 3 years ago I would be someway competent now. What have you been postponing? Or wished you started earlier?
