25.01.2022 Doula’s are currently adapting their models of care, in line with COVID-19 restrictions. Let’s hope that these are lifted soon, and that Doula’s are recognised as an essential service within the hospital system With deep thanks to fellow Doula, Kylie Coad for being part of this really important article https://mobile.abc.net.au//doulas-adapt-their-se/12151628

23.01.2022 "Maternity care that is woman-centred focuses on a woman's unique needs, expectations and aspirations; recognises her right to self-determination in terms of choice, control and continuity of care; and addresses her social, emotional, physical, psychological, spiritual and cultural needs and expectations" ACT Legislative Assembly committee inquiry into Canberra's public maternity services released its report, making 74 broad recommendations. https://www.abc.net.au//canberra-maternity-inqui/12323990

22.01.2022 The urge to do all the things, to help, to say the right things, to touch, to rescue..... I hear from many partners that in previous births they felt they weren’t doing enough.... Enough, is your presence. Your calm, unwavering and loving presence. A woman’s birth is her own, no one can birth her baby for her. But we can hold space for her. We can pour our love into her and into the space in which she births. This is enough. ... We are at peace with leaving a good thing alone

16.01.2022 Just picked up these delicious freshly baked lactation cookies and tea for one of my beautiful mummas from Super Boober! Breastfeeding can be such a tough gig! I discovered this with both my bubs. With my first, I doubted my supply and created a confusing mixture of breastfeeding, pumping, formula feeding or bottle feeding breast milk, and the list goes on! One stressed out mumma and one confused bub that never knew what to expect, who subsequently decided early that he was ...over my shit, and flat out refused to open his mouth for a boob ever again When our second surprise rolled around I thought I had breastfeeding in the bag! I knew what not to do and I was sticking to it. Yeah nah, best laid plans and all that. I still wince when I think about those first few weeks, walking around in a daze with my boobs just permanently out. Many a shocked impromptu visitor or delivery dude. Often feeding with a terrible and excruciating latch, but refusing to detach him, because I was just so damn grateful he was on and not screaming at me! Big mistake. Trying to act like I was Mother Earth and breastfeeding was the most comfortable and enjoyable thing to ever happen to me. So after all that, what actually helped me? We had him checked for a tongue tie, and subsequently had it snipped (wasn’t the magic cure I had hoped for though). Bathed my nips in Lanolin. Unlike with my first bub, I trusted my milk supply. I knew he was gaining lots of weight, so I didn’t create all of the confusing things! I let him lead his feeding schedule. Delicious lactation cookies baked by my beautiful Doula..... wish I had some skills in the kitchen, sorry mummas! I learnt to relax my body! Starting with my jaw and shoulders! I stopped twisting myself into any position I could just to get him on! The attached photo refers So so so much skin to skin!!! Literally naked with him, for days on end, just letting him find his way. And... after what seemed like a life time, but was only a matter of weeks, we found our flow.... we finally found our damn flow! So much flow that when he turned 4, some serious negotiations were needed! A few nights of Mumma’s Boogie has run out of milk and pretending to be as equally horrified as he was, did the trick My hat, or should I say my bra goes off to you all, just taking it one breastfeed at a time. You are what your bub needs, no matter how or what you choose to feed them

07.01.2022 As the ACT moves to tighter hospital visitor restrictions, the following rule has been put in place - Women who are admitted for care related to birthing may have up to two support persons present. This needs to be pre-planned with the relevant midwifery and obstetric staff during antenatal care. If you are having a support person with you, other than your partner, please pre-plan this with your provider. Put it in writing in your Birth Plan, and make sure that your midwife/OB are aware at your appointments in the lead up to birth

07.01.2022 Oh I love this so much! Couldn’t have said it better myself! You got this!!

02.01.2022 Feeling so honoured to have been gifted this incredible artwork, created by one of my beautiful mummas! When I look at this I am reminded of her reclaimed journey to heal and grow. The surrender and the rise

02.01.2022 Food Glorious Food! What did I need the most during those first months with my new babe? Food. Delicious, homely, comforting, easy and nutritious food. Because I was starving, all-of-the-time! But I also didn’t want to get off the couch. I wanted the food to come to me. While I spent all day watching Netflix, staring at my new little man, and nursing my leaking boobs and sore bum. If left to my own devices I would eat chocolate and raspberry lollies all day, and those cakes... in a mug (have you tried those!?) - Delicious but not so nutritious. One of my beautiful Doula sisters, provides just exactly what I needed, and what is so vital for postpartum healing. The most beautiful and delicious meals, in meal packages, that are super easy to grab and eat on the couch! Check it out!

02.01.2022 I will support you no matter how you choose to birth your baby. Whether it be drug free under a beautiful tree in your backyard, or in a hospital with all of the drugs - I just ask one thing from you.... Be informed and truly own your decisions. Knowledge is power You and only you know what you and your baby need in birth
