20.01.2022 Dear friends. We have been looking forward to our first face-to-face worship tomorrow in combination with our livestream service. This was also to coincide with our farewell for our Minister, Rev Andrew Gunton. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 restrictions put in place today mean that we cannot go ahead with our plans to meet together face-to-face. We will go ahead with our livestream service from 10am. Please join us via our YouTube channel tomorrow morning.

19.01.2022 A big shout out to our tech gurus, John Gunders and Sam Gunders. For the long hours spent on recording and editing our worship services. For the time and effort to move into live-streaming. We couldnt have done it without your dedication and expertise. Thank you.

18.01.2022 Has this years National Reconciliation Week given you more questions than answers, or a desire to learn more about what factors have contributed to protests ac...ross the country at this time? Here is one young persons story, which is an inspiring and beautiful film. (Please note that it contains references to Aboriginal healing and spirituality, which is part of our ongoing conversation in the church, about how this ancient culture fits together with our understanding of faith in modern times). Ten-year-old Dujuan is a child-healer, a good hunter and speaks three languages. As he shares his wisdom of history and the complex world around him we see his spark and intelligence. Yet Dujuan is failing in school and facing increasing scrutiny from welfare and the police. As he travels perilously close to incarceration, his family fight to give him a strong Arrernte education alongside his western education lest he becomes another statistic. We walk with him as he grapples with these pressures, shares his truths and somewhere in-between finds space to dream, imagine and hope for his future self. Addendum: With the guidance of Arrernte and Garrwa Elders and leaders, our shared vision is not to reiterate the ignorance of injustice, abuse and neglect we so often see when we turn on the news, but to creatively accentuate the strengths, the insights of Dujuan, his family, his community and through their story, First Nations families everywhere. The producers have given Uniting Church members the ability to rent through Vimeo on Demand at a discounted rate, just follow the link and type in the code on the order page. 04.01.2022 Today is Mabo Day, the anniversary of the historic High Court decision on 3 June 1992. The decision in favour of the Mer (Murray Island) people was a decision ...for all First Peoples, and a recognition of sovereignty which changed Australia forever. Sadly Koiki (Eddie) Mabo passed away in January of the same year. He had fought with his co-plaintiffs relentlessly with determination. Today we honour Koiki Mabo as one who persevered. Perseverance produces character and character produces hope. Calling for a national public holiday on 3 June every year, Eddie Mabo Jnr said, A public holiday would be a celebration all Australians can share in with pride a celebration of truth that unites Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians and a celebration of justice that overturned the legal myth of terra nullius - Mabo symbolises truth and justice and is a cornerstone of Reconciliation. #NRW2020 #InThisTogether
