24.01.2022 SESAME SEEDS are believed to be one of the worlds' first spices. Although they are considered a culinary treat in many places, black sesame seeds, also known as ‘Hei Zhi Ma’, are used in traditional Chinese medicine for a number of health benefits. . 1. Relieve hot flushes during menopause. They are cooling, and hence may be used to minimise hot flushes associated with menopause. They may also be used to relieve headaches and dizziness, which often accompany feelings of heat ...in the body. . 2. Relieve constipation. Black sesame seeds are used to moisten and lubricate the intestines, helping to guide out accumulations in the intestines. Thus they can be effective in mild or moderate cases of constipation, especially when taken at bedtime. . 3. Lower blood sugar. They can affect the endocrine system by lowering blood sugar levels, thus reducing the concentration of glucose (sugar) in the bloodstream. This makes it a beneficial dietary inclusion for persons living with diabetes (in conjunction with other lifestyle adjustments geared toward lowering blood glucose). . 4. Strengthening. Black sesame seeds may be used to fortify and nourish the body in cases of weakness, particularly following a long illness during the recovery stage. . 5. Benefit hair & skin. Black sesame seeds have high nutritional value, and contain sesamin, melanin and Vitamin E. As a result, they are widely used in treating hair loss and grey hair, and said to keep a person's hair looking rich and dark. Furthermore, they may inhibit the growth of skin cancer cells from UV rays. Black sesame seeds are also a great source of calcium, protein, phosphorous, iron and magnesium. . Dosage: 10-grams may be taken daily, even as much as 20-grams. . Caution: Black sesame seeds are relatively safe to be used by just about anyone. However, they are not recommended for someone with diarrhoea and in large quantities can cause loose stools and diarrhoea. . . . #sesameseeds #health #nutrition #healthylifestyle #healthydiet #menopause #hotflashes #constipationrelief #haircare #skincare #chinesemedicine #acupuncture #chineseherbs #herbsforlife #herbalmedicine #fitzroynorth #oystershellsanddragonbone #melbourne See more

24.01.2022 ANXIETY // If you are feeling anxious or worried during this time, you are not alone. Anxiety is normal, and in some cases it can be helpful. For example, research during past pandemics has shown that people who worry are more likely to do the things that help to keep the virus at bay - like frequent hand washing. . However, certain foods can help to keep excessive anxiety levels under control. . Nuts Selenium, Vitamin E... Brazil nuts are high in selenium. Selenium may improve mood by reducing inflammation, which is often at heightened levels when someone has a mood disorder, such as anxiety. Other Nuts, animal products, and vegetables, such as mushrooms and soybeans, are an excellent source of selenium. Brazil nuts and other nuts are also a good source of vitamin E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant. Antioxidants can be beneficial for treating anxiety, while some research has shown that low levels of vitamin E may lead to depression in some people. . Fatty fish Omega 3, Vitamin D Fatty fish, such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, trout, and herring, are high in omega-3. Omega-3 is a fatty acid that has a strong relationship with cognitive function. . Eggs Vitamin D, Serotonin Egg yolks are another great source of vitamin D. Eggs are also an excellent source of protein. It is a complete protein, meaning it contains all the essential amino acids the body needs for growth and development. Eggs also contain tryptophan, which is an amino acid that helps create serotonin. Serotonin is a chemical neurotransmitter that helps to regulate mood, sleep, memory, and behaviour. Serotonin is also thought to improve brain function and relieve anxiety. . Avocados B Vitamins Foods containing B vitamins, such as avocado and almonds, spur the release of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine. They are a safe and easy first step in managing anxiety. . FOR MORE DETAILS GO TO: https://shellsandbones.com.au//07/30/foods-to-ease-anxiety/ See more

23.01.2022 While I accept the challenge I would also like to bring it back to its original meaning. . It started with Pnar Gültekin. She was reported missing in Turkey's Aegean province of Mula on 16 July and found dead after being brutally murdered five days later. A man has been detained in relation to her killing. Pinar was just 27 years old. . People in Turkey regularly see black and white images of women on the news, but they are pictures of women who have been violently murd...ered; the country has one of the highest rates of femicide in the world. The photo challenge circulating right now was in response to Pinar’s death. A way for Turkish women to stand in solidarity with those lost and shine a light on what is happening. . This is about much more than supporting other women by asking them to do the same. Social media can do so much good, but so often the intended impactful message is quickly lost it’s kind of like playing that game where you whisper something in someone’s ear and then they pass it on to someone else and so on, and the original message comes out the other end completely different. . So please do post your photo, but do if for Pinar and all the other women, especially women of colour, who have been lost to violence. . Thank you to for doing the work and finding the origin of this campaign #businesschicks. Thank you #when_honey_meets_lemon and ##cacatua_divination_bags for the nomination. #challengeaccepted #pnargültekin #womemsupportingwomen #womenempowerment #womenrule #justiceforwomen

19.01.2022 "FIRST DAYS OF SPRING - blue sky, bright sun. Everything is gradually becoming fresh and green. Carrying my bowl, I walk slowly to the village. The children, surprised to see me, Joyfully crowd about, bringing... My begging trip to an end at the temple gate. I place my bowl on top of a white rock and Hang my sack from the branch of a tree. Here we play with the wild grasses and throw a ball. For the first time, I play catch while the children sing; Then it is my turn. Playing like this, here and there, I have forgotten the time. Passers-by point and laugh at me, asking, "What is the reason for such foolishness?" No answer I give, only a deep bow; Even if I replied, they would not understand. Look around! There is nothing besides this." . A beautiful poem by Rykan, a Japanese zen monk. 18.01.2022 WATER RETENTION is a common ailment and it can be an uncomfortable issue. However, changing to a low-salt diet, drinking more water, exercising (simply walking more) and eating certain foods that reduce water retention can alleviate it. . Here are some food suggestions to help reduce water retention: . Eat More Potassium-Rich Foods: Potassium may reduce water retention by increasing the production of urine and decreasing the amount of sodium in your body. Good sources of pot...assium are watermelons, avocados, sweet potatoes, spinach, watercress, plums, almonds, butternut squash, white and black beans, dried apricots, silver beet, beetroot and pomegranate. . Increase Your Magnesium Intake: Magnesium has been shown to be effective in reducing water retention, at least for women with premenstrual symptoms. Good sources of magnesium include nuts, whole grains, dark chocolate and leafy, green vegetables. . Increase Vitamin B6 Intake: Vitamin B6 may help reduce water retention, especially in women with premenstrual syndrome. Foods rich in vitamin B6 include bananas, potatoes, and walnuts. . Avoid Refined Carbs: Eating refined carbs can increase insulin levels in your body, which, in turn, increases the reabsorption of sodium in the kidneys, leading to a higher fluid volume. Examples of refined carbs include processed sugars and grains, such as table sugar and white flour. . Herbs: Horsetail, parsley, Roselle (hibiscus), corn silk, dandelion and nettle all have diuretic effects and thus reduce water retention. . Other: cucumber, cranberry, celery, ginger, carrots, lemons, and cinnamon (1-2 cinnamon sticks to a glass of hot water) . . . #waterretention #healthydiet #watermelon #cranberryjuice #nutrition #chinesemedicine #herbs #detox #detoxyourbody #springcleansing #potassiumrich #magnesium #herbalist #acupuncture #healthcare #oystershellsanddragonbone #melbourne #fitzroynorth #thornbury See more

New directives have come from the DHHS, which specify that as AHPRA registered Chinese medicine doctors we are able to keep our clinic open to provide care for urgent cases where your condition (physical, emotional, mental) would deteriorate if left untreated, and/or result in you needing higher level care. . We are also able to see you for face-to-face consultat...ions if you have a GP referral, or a TAC, workcover plan. . Please be kind to yourself and do not suffer in silence 6 weeks is a long time. . Unfortunately routine care is not permitted right now, so if you do not fit the above categories, then please stay safe, stay home and contact us for TeleHealth appointments.
