25.01.2022 OzFish members this week deployed their ROV south of Rottnest Island at the Subcon designed and constructed Fish Towers Artifical Reef. Deployed in 2017 and paid for using revenue generated by Recreational Fishing Licence fees, the two large structures sit approximately 100m apart. There were large Yellow Tail Kings and Samson fish following the video system from near the surface all the way down 49 metres to the otherwise barren sandy ocean floor. Fishers using citizen science-based video sampling can provide useful cost-effective data for demonstrating ecological productivity outcomes from habitat investments.
24.01.2022 Seagrasses are 40-50 times more efficient at storing carbon than forests. Restoring one hectare of Seagrass habitat is the equivalent of 40Ha of forest

16.01.2022 Like all of Australia, we've been praying for rain. However, we know what could be waiting for our native fish when it comes. After heavy rainfall, debris from the recent bushfires could wash into our waterways and threaten fish, water bugs, and other aquatic species. It has the potential to decimate aquatic life, particularly in our precious Murray-Darling basin. Read this article to find out more.
15.01.2022 Come down today with your flippers and googles to the Coogee Dive trial and check out the new fish habitat. OzFish will be there updating people about Seeds for Snapper and handing out the last of the Seagrass seed to disperse near the Omeo wreck. We will also be talking to divers about getting involved in a new Shellfish project we will be starting in 2020.
15.01.2022 Well done Wilson

12.01.2022 Have you completed the National Recreational Fishing Survey yet?
12.01.2022 A bit of a flashback to our earlier seagrass restoration efforts reported last year. Plans are well underway for fishers, boaters and divers to make fish habitat happen

Freshwater and inland anglers are invited to participate and join with other like minded fishers wanting to help make better habitat for better fishing.

08.01.2022 It's out have you got your copy?
08.01.2022 Ever wondered what pesticides lurk in your fishing hole? Heres the opportunity to find out. The next round of nominations for Pesticide detectives is about to close for a sampling blitz in February 2020. We know some of you missed out on the last round so here is your chance to ensure you don't miss out again! Nominations will close on Christmas Day. OzFish are a proud partner in this #citizenscience #project and had our #volunteers sample waterways across the country already. Interesting results coming in off the last sampling effort. It provides an opportunity to discover what pesticides are lurking in their local waterways, potentially impacting your fish. Nominate now and join us in February across the country for the next round of sampling!
08.01.2022 It's arrived - the triple whammy. Your help will support OzFish repair this crisis now. Please support anyway you can.

07.01.2022 Each November OzFish calls on recreational fishers to take part in a massive effort to restore the lost seagrass meadows of Cockburn Sound. The area has lost 85% of its seagrass habitat since the 1960s and this loss affects baby pink snapper as well as many other species. Volunteers are needed to help collect seeds and more... register online now at ozfish.org.au to help. And share the hell out of this if you can please... This project is made possible through by the WA Government's Recreational Fishing Initiatives Fund and is supported by our major partner BCF - Boating, Camping, Fishing, The University of Western Australia, Cockburn Power Boats Club and Recfishwest #BetterHabitatBetterFishing #GenerationRestoration #SeagrassRestoration #WeGotThis #FishHabitat
05.01.2022 Great turnout tonight at the Seeds for Snapper update where Dr John Statton from UWA provided members and volunteers the lastest results from the communities Se...agrass restoration efforts. He reinforced the importance of community participation in recent successes and how this year we will be planning collection activities a bit earlier to maximise numbers of fruit collected. Recfishwest’s James Florisson, an artificial reef specialist, gave a talk about the highly successful Reef Vision citizen science based reef monitoring program. Being able to measure the successes of habitat restoration is extremely important, as is getting fishing communities engaged with science. James experiences in designing robust monitoring methodology was extremely interesting and particularly relevant for the Seeds for Snapper program going forward. Pity the bar was shut by the time the meeting finished as I suspect attendees could have stayed longer to chat about better habitat = better fishing
05.01.2022 OzFish Perth Chapter undertake habitat assessments using many different scientific methods to measure functionality, complexity and productivity. Here President Dom Holland is using a Remote Operating underwater Vehicle -ROV looking at Seagrass distribution. Being a skilled video gamer helps when it comes to manoeuvring the small but powerful little vehicle. Being a member of OzFish enables people to use existing skills and opportunities to learn new ones. Why not dedicate some time to a organisation which is focused on building better habitat for better fishing. https://ozfish.org.au/membership/
04.01.2022 Seagrass kids restoring nursery habitat. Education on the importance of healthy and productive aquatic habitat will ensure there are fresh minds finding new solutions in the future.
04.01.2022 On today - all OzFish members welcome to come and celebrate a fantastic 2020
04.01.2022 Not many crayfish legs on the wash down bays yet but the Cockburn Powerboat club members have been busy collecting Seagrass seeds ready for tomorrow’s Open Day. Come down and say hi, open to the public
03.01.2022 The Seeds for Snapper project makes the news !!
03.01.2022 OzFish are currently investigating ways to improve Marron habitat using large wooden debris. Rare in the wild, this blue Marron reminds us how unique these tasty critters are. With better habitat you get better fishing
02.01.2022 Today our OzFish family took a moment to reflect, celebrate and appreciate the comfort and joy that recreational fishing gifts us as individuals, families and communities. So during this time of uncertainty, our wonderful volunteers, members, chapters, employees, partners and supporters - decided to share a collective message of hope that the sport we champion and treasure has the capacity to offer a much-needed panacea. So #GoOzFishinAustralia... Weve been told to avoid the crowdsso grab a rod, disconnect your devices, get outside and go fishing. Learn a new skill, dust off the rod and take up the challenge. #OzFishUnlimited BCF - Boating, Camping, Fishing #StarloFishing #getoutside #baitup #GoOzFishinAustralia #fishingsolo
