03.01.2022 REPOST from @balancefitnessandnutrition WHAT’S YOUR SWEET SPOT? Progressive overload - an important training variable which defines a gradual increase of stress placed on the body during exercise for strength & fitness gains.... Something it presents a slight prob when training women who are mums or have been through menopause - for those dealing with any form of pelvic floor dysfunction or not. As trainers you can want to push your clients to lift more , run further, faster etc - BUT this isn’t always a good thing. As someone who loves exercise you may be wanting to get a better PB and keep pushing to see just what you’re capable of. You train = you get stronger = your fitness increases = you can squat heavier, push more, run faster and for longer. Yet potentially getting closer to or reaching your sweet spot - I’ll call it that point where physically you feel strong & capable, yet safely cannot perform the movement. For example excessive bearing down which you may or may not feel, experience stress incontinence and/or symptoms start to present following exercise such as heaviness or air trapping. As women this point can change based on the time of the day, month, energy levels and more! Try to understand your body and check in regularly with any feelings or symptoms that may not be normal & know when or how to scale back accordingly (or reach out to me to help you out - I’ve always got ALLLLL the options!). As trainers this is something you need to be mindful of a reassess in clients regularly. It can be a long and sometimes disheartening road back to strength and fitness following babies. Yes, there are ways to modify workouts so they’re still challenging, but sometimes you just want to lift that weight or go for that run - and that’s okay.
