25.01.2022 After Covid forced our students online, the Nourish Program is back face-to-face! Last week marked the start of the Certificate II in Kitchen Operations for our Sydney students and they returned on-site in style decked out in full chef uniform for the first time. Thanks to all the funders, supporters and new friends who helped ensure a smooth return to the kitchen and classroom for our Nourish family!

25.01.2022 By joining the fight against food waste, you're not just saving the planet, you're saving money too! Every year, households throw away an average of $3,800 worth of groceries because of food waste. Remember to follow our mantra: LOOK at what you have before shopping BUY only what you need STORE food correctly to ensure it lasts longer... COOK what you have These simple tips will have you spending less AND helping our planet!

25.01.2022 Sunday at Nel Restaurant is the day for OzHarvest Hospitality Heroes! More than 3,000 delicious cooked meals have ben delivered to agencies including Northcott Community Centre, who are a not-for-profit disability services and support provider, and Redlink, who provide support and services to residents in public housing in Redfern. Chef Nelly Robinson said: We love being part of the OzHarvest Hospitality Heroes project, were cooking up around 500 meals a week. We cook the meals on Sunday, pack on Monday and OzHarvest collect and deliver on Tuesdays. Thanks to Electroluxs support, we have been able to keep a chef employed for two days a week on this project alone."

24.01.2022 Throwing away just one hamburger wastes the same amount of water as leaving the shower running for 90-minutes! When we throw away food, we also waste all the precious resources that went into producing it. Follow our mantra Look.Buy.Store.Cook to reduce your environmental footprint to save food and water #fightfoodwaste #foodwaste #wastefreewednesday

24.01.2022 If theres one thing we are learning from watching ABCs Fight for Planet A, its that there are a bunch of ways that we as individuals can reduce our carbon emissions. One incredibly effective way is by shifting to a plant rich diet This doesnt mean cutting out meat! Just by incorporating more plant-based meals into our diet, and simply reducing our dairy and meat intake, we can significantly reduce carbon emissions! Change starts with us, and together we can make a real difference for our planet! Tune in to the ABC at 8:30 tonight to learn more about reducing your carbon emissions #fightforplaneta #yourplanet

24.01.2022 Less than a month now until Christmas! Just in time, Santa Cookies are now available in-store and online at Woolworths with 50c from every pack sold going to OzHarvest food rescue. Remember, just 50c allows OzHarvest to provide a meal to someone in need this Christmas.

24.01.2022 With the end of the year fast approaching, our CEO and founder, Ronni Kahn, wonders where has 2020 taken us? Where is 2021 taking us? To help navigate this period of challenge and uncertainty, Ronni sat down with some inspirational Aussies to ask and hear what they had to say about purpose. Here’s a sneak peek to Ronni's upcoming full length series Pondering Purpose!

23.01.2022 RUOK? Day is a chance to remind ourselves to check in on those around you. Today at OzHarvest, that started with our Food Supply Manager, Diego bringing cupcakes to our awesome vollies at the OzHarvest Market to let them know how much we appreciate them. We also tuned in around the country to an OzHarvest family all-in video call to share stories of our challenges and feel good moments over the last few months (ending with a special performance to put a smile on our faces ). Today and everyday, make sure to take care of yourself and each other.

23.01.2022 Theres actually a right way to store your food in the fridge and by doing this, you are ensuring that your food lasts longer! Top and middle shelf: Ready to eat foods! This includes dairy products, leftover meals, cooked meats and prepared salads. Bottom shelf: Raw meat, poultry and fish! These foods should be stored at the bottom of your fridge to prevent cross-contamination. Ensure that each item is wrapped or in a sealed container so that it doesnt come into contact with other foods. Salad drawer: Fruit and veg! For leaves and herbs, try wrapping them in a damp paper towel before storing to prevent them from drying out and to keep them fresher for longer. Just by following these simple rules, your food will stay fresh for longer!

23.01.2022 It's World Environment Day! OzHarvest's founder and CEO @ronni.kahn wanted to take a moment to talk about something she learnt only after starting OzHarvest: that food waste feeds climate change. In fact, food waste is responsible for 8% of greenhouse gases!! But there's good news! Reducing food waste is the single most effective action an individual can take to fight climate change. The power is in our hands, so join the fight against food waste today and help save our plan...et #WorldEnvironmentDay2021

23.01.2022 My favourite things about working for OzHarvest is our amazing team! Its by far the best bunch of people Ive ever worked alongside. Also seeing the wide-eyed bewilderment of our volunteer Van Assistants at the sheer volume and quality of food being discarded and then their smiles when we deliver it to an agency is incredible. Paul, Food Rescue Driver OzHarvest WA : Craig Kinder Food Photography

23.01.2022 Our amazing OzHarvest Gold Coast team received this incredibly heartwarming message this morning from the Sunnyfield Disability Services in Tweed Heads. "Last week we received Food Essentials Boxes from OzHarvest and Kristie is just one of our clients who received one of the boxes. Kristie lives independently and has support workers come into her home. Kristie with assistance cut up all the vegetables, steamed them, let them cool and then put them in a freezer bag to freeze.... Kristie is very excited to make all different meals with the food she received, including pumpkin soup and pasta bake. Were so beyond thankful for all the food we receive from OzHarvest." - Maya Thank you so much to the Sunnyfield Disability Services team for supporting people doing it tough right now and allowing us to share this story.

15.01.2022 "Today at Woolworths Neutral Bay I had to park outside of the loading dock as there was a truck already there when I arrived. When I returned to the truck to start loading I noticed a woman holding her 18 month old son up to touch the flashing hazard lights, she mentioned that he just loves trucks, so I opened the back of the truck so they could see all of the fresh produce I had collected inside. I know it was just a small gesture but I was so happy to see the joy and wonderment on his young face. I like to think that I have the same look on my face when I'm watching the waves break onto whichever beach I've decided to stop and eat my lunch near that day. For me the more time I spend in nature the more I am amazed at how lucky we are you have such a wonderful planet to live on." - Wayne, OzHarvest Food Rescue Driver

04.01.2022 Looking for an absolutely delicious, protein packed breakfast? This dish is for you! This garlicky sweet potato and egg bake with pickled onions tastes as good as it looks and its so easy to make! Prick some holes on your medium size sweet potato with a fork and microwave it wrapped in paper towel for 8-10 minutes or until soft and cooked through. Peel and cut the skin into bite size pieces and shallow fry them in oil with crushed cumin and coriander seeds, chilli flakes... and salt until crispy. Mash the sweet potato with a dollop of butter, some finely chopped garlic, salt, pepper, a pinch of ground cinnamon and any cooked beans of your choice. We used black beans! Arrange the mashed sweet potato mix into a donut shape on an oven proof pan, drizzle with a little bit of olive oil and crack an egg in the middle. Put the pan under the grill on medium heat until the yolk is just set. Once cooked, arrange the crispy sweet potato skin on top with some coriander leaves, pickled red onions & more chilli flakes. Voila! A delicious, hearty breakfast and a great start to the day #fightfoodwaste #wastefreewednesday #arabicfood #fatteh #whodoesthedishes Image & recipe by Lucy Leonardi Who Does The Dishes See more

02.01.2022 Want to save money AND cut down on food waste? Make your own stock, it's easy! Collect all your vegetable cuttings (we're talking onions skins, carrot ends, celery leaves... anything!) and freeze them in a container. Keep adding to your veggie cuttings collection and when youre ready to make stock, pop it all in a large pot of boiling water, add a generous amount of salt and cook for a couple of hours. Voila! Now youve got a delicious stock to use for plenty of different meals. And if youve got too much, simply freeze the rest in batches and save for another dish!
