24.01.2022 During the Covid period and in response to the dramatic rise in demand for food relief, OzHarvest has rallied our teams across the country. In this time, nearly 6.5 million kilos of food has been diverted from landfill through our food rescue operations, which equates to more than 22 million meals delivered to the charities we regularly support. A massive THANK YOU goes out to all of our supporters and partners who have made this possible. If you'd like to find out more about our impact during Covid, head to www.ozharvest.org/news/our-impact-during-covid-19/
24.01.2022 Andrew, our amazing Food Donor Coordinator, is often "pounding the pavement", meeting food businesses across Brisbane, Toowoomba and beyond, finding ways to make food rescue a natural and efficient part of business systems. We asked Andrew what the best thing about his site visits is: "I’m always moved when I see our food donors putting the effort in to save as much food as possible from landfill, giving what they can to help those in need. But it doesn’t happen overnight. ...It’s many people observing, asking, advocating. It’s about building relationships and making systemic change over time." Thank you, Andrew, for your exceptional work in sourcing beautiful, vibrant food sources to help us Nourish Our Country!
23.01.2022 A tale of two lunch styles this #WorldFoodDay, with Driver Ricardo sharing his grab and go lunch (before stopping to rescue from BP, who fuel our fleet and donate their quality, excess snacks); and Driver Grace snapping this serene photo on her break at beautiful Wynnum. Grace and Ricardo between them rescued an awesome 3,273 meals today. Well-earned lunch breaks indeed! #BreakBread #WorldFoodDay2020
23.01.2022 Our #HospoHeroes this week are owner Gina, Head Chef Naedi and the amazing team at Pawpaw Cafe who are making hundreds of portions of their Signature Malaysian Curry to nourish people in need. Pawpaw Café began supporting OzHarvest after the lockdown in March 2020, and has continued their support since then. When asked why this dish, Head Chef Naedi didn’t hesitate: It’s Pawpaw Café on a plate, warming flavours and spices, comforting potatoes and vegetables I hope it will... give someone relief in the moment, and an energy boost to journey through the hardship they may be facing. Thank you, Pawpaw Café, for your generosity! #HospoHeroes #BrisbanesBiggestHearts #OzHarvestBrisbane #FoodRelief
22.01.2022 The thrill of seeing our work buddies on the road! As we continue to operate under changed circumstances in response to COVID-19, with our office team working from home and our drivers on staggered or non-centralised runs, it's always a delight when we (from a distance) cross paths with our colleagues. We love this photo of Driver Grace and Driver Peta (thank you vollie Alex for snapping this one!).
21.01.2022 "I love delivering to our friends at Access Street Vans to help their community outreach work. The Access team support people young and old with food parcels, hot meals, sanitary and hygiene items, and more." Thank you for sharing, Food Rescue Driver Sarah, and thank you to our awesome volunteer @Captured by Soph for the behind the scenes photo
20.01.2022 Your recycling can change lives! Thanks to a new initiative from myTOMRA Australia, you can help people in need and the planet at the same time. Every eligible container you return to a TOMRA recycling centre generates a 10c refund that you can choose to donate to OzHarvest, so for every 5 containers, you can fund a meal for someone in need across Brisbane! TOMRA has locations in Crestmead, Geebung, Ipswich, Salisbury, Seventeen Mile Rocks, Tingalpa and West End. #BottlesCanChangeLives #ContainersForChange #EveryOneDollarEqualsTwoMeals
20.01.2022 Food insecurity is complex and nuanced, and we are humbled by the responsive ways our 130+ charitable agencies apply the food we deliver to the challenge of nourishing families experiencing hardship. OzHarvest provides regular food... relief to reduce the financial pressure on these families and improve access to a greater variety and vibrancy of nutrition. Valley Outreach is one of more than 130 charities OzHarvest nourishes across greater Brisbane, with thanks to the support of our amazing food donors and financial supporters. #HereForHope #FoodRelief #CommunityImpact #CookingForACause

17.01.2022 Christmas is our busiest time of year, with many of our charities closing for a few weeks to give their teams some much needed rest. Thank you to everyone who donated, supported, advocated, listened and contemplated, as we journeyed through some extremely long and full days to prepare for this season. We had an awesome day yesterday delivering the last of our pre Christmas food relief, like this lovingly packed box of Christmas Day breakfast goodies from Food Rescue Driver Sarah.
17.01.2022 We are both thrilled and humbled to share that in partnership with QPAC, our incredible corporate team building program, Cooking For A Cause, is returning to Brisbane from this week onward. 14.01.2022 If there’s one thing we love about Christmas in Summer, it’s all the amazing fruit we get to enjoy! Cherries, mango, strawberries and passionfruit all make an appearance throughout the holidays but don’t let them end up in the bin. Store fruit (except bananas) in the fridge to make them stay fresher. #fightfoodwaste #summer #nowaste #leftovers #festiveseason #christmas #christmasfood

11.01.2022 We asked Mark what the best thing about driving a big yellow OzHarvest van is: "I have had a full and rewarding life, now I have the time to make a more positive contribution. I have always cared about the environment and others less fortunate; now I can do something that will hopefully make the world a better place for my ever growing tribe of grandchildren." Thank you, Mark, for your amazing and ongoing work to reduce food waste and nourish those in our community experienc...ing hardship, and thank you to your growing tribe for sharing you with us! #HereForHope #YellowArmy #WeLoveOurPeople
11.01.2022 Thank you to the lovely team at UQ Medicine School of Public Health at Herston who recently found themselves with excess produce after a photo shoot.
