10.01.2022 Congratulations to the FEAST team! OZHARVEST’S FEAST PROGRAM WINS 2020 BANKSIA SUSTAINABILITY AWARD Inspiring primary school students to waste less, eat healthy food and become future change-makers is the aim of OzHarvest’s education program FEAST (Food Education and Sustainability Training), which has won the 2020 Banksia Sustainability Award for Not For Profits and NGOs. FEAST Program Manager, Amelia Berner said the program was created from the belief that educating childre...n is essential to creating a sustainable future. It was a huge honour for OzHarvest to be chosen as the winner of this award, amongst so many organisations doing incredible work. This high profile recognition from The Banksia Foundation shows the importance of the FEAST program not just to children but to the whole community. OzHarvest Founder and CEO, Ronni Kahn AO said, We have seen over 10,000 students undertake the program and the positive feedback has been overwhelming. It’s so rewarding to see the positive ripple effect within the whole community as children share their new knowledge with family and friends. Our aim is to get FEAST into all Australian primary schools. Graz van Egmond, CEO of the Banksia Foundation said the judges were impressed with OzHarvest’s clear connection to the SDGs, impactful results and monitoring, which shows the program is scalable across Australia. We have been advocating leadership and innovation over 32 years which now spans across the 17 pillars of sustainability and the SDGs. Our winners are all catalysts for positive, productive, possible acceleration for the change we need. OzHarvest presented an initiative that possesses great opportunity for strong behavioural impact. The Banksia Foundation is a strong and expanding brand and its Awards program, the Banksia Sustainability Awards, are regarded as the most prestigious and longest running sustainability awards in the world. The 32nd Banksia Awards continue to illustrate how the efforts and passion of so many individuals can make a difference towards a more sustainable future. FEAST is a curriculum-aligned national program made possible thanks to support from local councils and organisations such as The Amway One By One Foundation, Newman’s Own Foundation, Norton Rose Fulbright, Deloitte, Commonwealth Bank, Bennelong Foundation, Faiman Family, Confoil and other Private Philanthropic Foundations. Funding is available for eligible schools to sign up to our FEAST program and make a lasting, impact within their school community. Schools signing up will receive a curriculum package, kitchen kits to make cooking in the classroom easy, access to the online portal for teachers and students and accredited teacher training.
