25.01.2022 Shot on a 6mp consumer camera, printed to 60 x 40cm, mistaken by a professional photographer for a large format image. Created in the studio with an on camera flash, removed from the camera:) One flash, one exposure plus no post in photoshop or the like. How in hell did I achieve the lighting effect? Take a minute to look and work it out. Clue, simple, cheap tricks are often the best:)
24.01.2022 There is nothing like using a stock picture to illustrate a news story from yesterday, when the said stock picture has the days date in sharp focus, clearly written and prominent in frame. And the date is 2 1/2 years ago:)
24.01.2022 FREE POSTAGE on orders over $50 but it will cost you $29.95 to reflect the extra expense we incur shipping to COUNTRY REGIONS. Just a thought here but maybe you should remove FREE SHIPPING ON ALL ORDERS OVER $50 FROM YOUR WEBSITE. The joys of living in the bush
22.01.2022 On a happier note, On1 are promoting the upcoming release of AI controlled portrait retouching. Seems to work wonderfully on beautiful young caucasian women with near flawless skin:)
22.01.2022 Did anyone see the photo of 10 doctors all dressed in white lab coats, masks and practising social distancing, while delivering a report on the US Presidents health? This is what happens when you let the marketing department run the show. Seriously though, they forgot to line up a dozen five star generals behind the doctors. This was just the best photo op I've seen for a while. Hands down beats the image of the President standing in front of a church bible in hand, minutes after riot troops fired tear-gas and rubber bullets into a crowd of demonstrators to make it safe for the president. This stuff is right out a bad 1980s comedy movie:)
22.01.2022 Can you believe it is nearly 13 years since our little snowy-haired PM announced Australia would have world-class internet service? Thirteen long and tedious years since "a fair shake of the sauce bottle mate" took the reins of office, packed half his cabinet into fossil fuel-guzzling jets and headed off overseas to sign a momentous accord to save the planet. Since then, a revolving door of governments has fixed the problems of the NBN by tinkering under the hood and making m...eaningless speeches, which brings us to the current time. Where paying for the fastest unlimited connection speed at top dollar, gives you speeds like the one here. Admittedly recorded during the morning peak hour period of 6 am. Giving notice that you are pulling the pin of a now-expired contract gains an immediate response. "Our IT department is looking into your problem, and if you like, we can resign you, right now at the same rate". To the provider's credit, my internet connection speeds improved dramatically. For example, download speeds increased nearly 30 fold. While uploads still languished in the realms of pitiful. But there was proof, even with NBN, anything is possible. However, two days after the mandatory "your problem is solved call". My connection to the World Wide Wait has once again returned to normal. Maybe I should stop bitching, and move to a country that has faster, more reliable internet. You know a country like Uzbekistan, for example. If nothing else, the NBN proves Australians are an easy target for an excellent con-job.
20.01.2022 As a Victorian based business, we've been very aware of travel restrictions. Just as these restrictions begin to ease, and we get our pencils out to mark in some new dates for workshops.... The inevitable happens, a new outbreak in SA has governments closing borders with South Ozzies or anyone who has travelled to that state:) Covid Normal isn't looking very normal to me. But, that is life and we'll learn to deal with it:)... But it may get complicated. I've been allowed to nip into NSW with a permit of course, for some time now. However, I'm not allowed to enter NSW for another 7 days, due to a photo shoot that took us outside of the border bubble:)
19.01.2022 Buggar, the hard borders are coming down. You know what the means don't you? Yup, we're coming out to play. Well, we will be as soon as we can get our act together. New workshops coming. Last years workshops to finish and new online content.
18.01.2022 Somedays I just wonder whether photographers posting to social media realise that social media isn't a private conversation. The post is in writing, often accompanied by photo, and could be used as evidence against them should authorities decide to launch a prosecution. Just saying....
14.01.2022 Just a short note to scammers... If you are going to try the old " you have used a copyright photo on your website" , but if you settle this now you can avoid going to court.... It just might be a good idea not to expect it to work on a photographer who's photo you're claiming as your own:)... Just saying.
14.01.2022 Here's a simple little stock photo that has popped ups in sales reports a couple of times recently. Bethanga Bridge over the Murray Arm of the Hume Dam near Albury.
06.01.2022 For all, you trendsetters out there. BLACK IS BACK, in fact, if you are taking photos that don't have a black background. Hang your head in shame. How dare you call yourself a photographer. Put away all your wishy-washy, flared backlit photos from yester-year and get out there and shoot black backgrounds. That is the advice from leading creatives. It appears that if you want to be taken seriously as an artist, you must immediately jump onto the trend and prove you are an orig...inal, creative and innovative industry leader. I would suggest you may want to photograph some gender non-specific people in front of your black background as well:) And yes, I'm old, cynical and have seen all this creative advice before. Almost always written by some nobody, pretending to be an influencer with imagination and insight.
05.01.2022 Why do farmers only work at sunrise and sunset? Just asking, as I have been searching for a rural product online. The first six websites visited all featured a farmer, male, wearing broad brim hat, backlit with sun (sometimes fake) on the horizon. He stands beside his tractor, walks down a road, stands in his crop, he is shy, we know that because his back is always to the camera.:) The realities of an advertising/marketing consultants mind.... I shot a farmer for one of the Big Four banks once. And got into trouble because the farmer was wearing a baseball cap. Luckily I swapped out the cap for my hat in a couple of the shots, plus did a closeup of the hat in the farmers hand. The close-up ended up being the hero image.:)
02.01.2022 Some salty patterns from earlier in the week. Nice to be able to take baby steps into getting out and about again.
