21.01.2022 GUIDE TAKEOVER | Day 1 of 3 . But first I best introduce myself. G'day. I'm Steve, and I work at the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum near Winton in outback Q...ueensland. . I joined AAOD as a tour guide in 2017, and after falling in love with both the museum and the outback, I became an accredited Savannah Guide in 2018. . There's a lot to love out here, but it was the dinosaurs that brought me to the outback. I was one of those kids who loved dinosaurs, so when the opportunity came up in Winton I had to take it. And the best part is I now work full time in the fossil preparation lab, so I'm always hanging out with dinosaurs. . Sadly you can't come visit us yet, but I thought I'd share a few of my favourite things. Today it's fossils! . Make sure to check back in over the weekend so I can share with you some other things you may get to see here in the outback. . by me! 1: Me with a few of our fossils. . 2: The fossil preparation lab. . 3: One of the most exciting things about working in the lab is being one of the first people to see exciting finds like Butch, Australia's most complete pterosaur! . 4: Not every find is a big one, but they're all exciting! . 5: Sometimes the finds aren't just big: they're huge! This is just one part of a plaster jacket from a dinosaur we call Judy. . 6: A little more of Judy. Most of this sauropod's neck is still intact. Nearly 10 perfect vertebrae still connected just how they were in life! . 7: And to top it off, Lark Quarry, just a short drive from Winton has over 3,300 dinosaur footprints preserved in rock. . #SavannahGuides #experiencewinton #outbackqueensland #thisisqueensland #GuideTakeover #dinosaurs #palaeontology #fossils

21.01.2022 Despite easing of some restrictions by the State Government, entry to Cook Shire remains restricted. Applications for entry must fall into one of three categor...ies: returning resident, essential activity or exemption. For details on applying for entry, visit our website. Cook Shire Council and the Cook Local Disaster Management Group are working closely with State and Federal members to ease the travel restrictions to Cook Shire as soon as is safe and practical. There has been community concern that the travel restrictions will be in place until February 2021. Council has not been advised of a timeframe for the travel restrictions, and has not been advised that they will remain in place until 2021. For details on other restrictions which have been eased in Cook Shire, visit our website at www.cook.qld.gov.au Please note, Cook Shire does not fall into the ‘outback’ category (see below map), and the eased restrictions allowed for outback areas do not apply in our shire. 16.01.2022 GUIDE TAKEOVER | Day 2 of 3 . Rick here again! As a Savannah Guide, I have had the privilege of working in some amazing places. . Cape York, the major area that... we operate in, is vast with ever changing environments, and animals, plants and birds found nowhere else. . History, both pre and post Captain Cook, is one of my great interests, and the Iron Range is one of my favourite places, because of its incredible WWII history. . Plus, it offers beautiful rainforests, fantastic birdlife and great places for night walks. . by me, Rick! . 1. Iron Range Creek. . 2. Birds Nest Ferns Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) NP. . 3. Chilli beach Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) NP. . 4. 16.01.2022 GUIDE TAKEOVER | Day 1 of 3 Hello, I’m Rick Edwards, and I’m taking over the #savannahguides socials this weekend! . I became a tour guide in 1996 after comple...ting the Heritage and Interpretive Tourism Course at Cairns Tafe. . It was during that time that I met a few Savannah Guides and became interested in becoming a member. . Part of the course involved work experience and I was lucky to have my first at Cobbold Gorge Tours for two weeks, followed by a sixteen day camping tour with Oz Tours Safaris, after which I was offered a job. . That was 24 years ago! . Nowadays, I’m the Oz Tours Operations Manager, so every day is different. One day I might be working under a bus, another rewriting or designing new tours, or even training new staff. . It has been an amazing journey, which I hope you’ll enjoy following over the next couple of days. . 1. Me on tour. . 2. Cape York Sunset One of many I’ve enjoyed over the years. . 3. Banksia Dentata AKA Tropical banksia as it’s only found across northern Australia. . . . . . #savannahguidestakeover #guidetakeover #oztourssafaris #oztours #thisisqueensland #tourismcapeyork #capeyork #tourguide @ Cape York, Queensland, Australia See more

14.01.2022 GUIDE TAKEOVER | Day 3 of 3 . There have been many highlights throughout my #savannahguides career, but one particularly memorable experience involved spending ...part of the 2018 wet season caretaking at Moreton Telegraph Station . This was a great opportunity to see how the Wenlock River fluctuates during the wet season, and how the environment differs from the dry. . The places I have travelled, the things I have seen, and people I have met have all provided great memories. But I would have to say becoming a Roving Interpreter, then Savannah Guide, and now Vice President are the major highlights for me! . I hope you have enjoyed following my guide takeover this weekend! Thank you for joining me Savannah Guide Rick. . by me, Rick! . 1. Palm Cockatoo found only in Far North Qld and New Guinea. . 2. Moreton Homestead surrounded by floodwaters. . 3. Flooded River Crossing. . . . . . #savannahguidestakeover #guidetakeover #protectorsandinterpreters #oztourssafaris #moretontelegraphstation #ttnq #thisisqueensland #capeyork #capeyorkpeninsula TTNQ Oz Tours Safaris See more

03.01.2022 As you will be aware, we are seeing unprecedented announcements from both federal and state governments. It's with great sadness that OzTours have made the decision to cancel our departures for May & June 2020. In light of the ban on non-essential travel, the recommendation to cancel holidays and the new stringent social distancing laws, we cannot see how we can continue to operate with compliance of these laws and preserve the safety of both our staff, passengers and remote ...communities that we visit. During this period we will continue to monitor the situation closely and take advice from all relevant authorities regarding resuming operations for the remainder of 2020. If you have a tour booked with OzTours from 1st July onwards, we will contact you in due course. We aim to make a decision on the status of each tour based on the advice from authorities 60 days prior to each departure. We ask all our wonderful clients not to call the office at the moment as our small team of staff just got smaller in accordance with current advice and are already working hard to respond to the situation. Please email any enquiries to [email protected] and we will get back to you as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologise to our valued clients & Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time. Best wishes to everyone for the coming weeks and months - may you all stay safe. See more
