21.01.2022 WHEN WILL SEASON 2020 START? It is the same for most of us, there are so many things I would usually be doing at this time of Year, yet here we are being good citizens and acting in the 'Common good' for our community. Self Isolating, or as call it 'Home detention' has significantly interrupted our lives and that includes racing, there will be racing at some stage and for now, unless we are privileged as an essential service, all we can all do is enjoy painting projects a...Continue reading
15.01.2022 The event, the organisation, the people and the track were exceptional... The Heaven Motorcycle Club, the primary Vintage Motocross Club in NSW held a VMX Race meeting at the Lakes MX Track at Ryehope 1st and 2nd August 2020. "It has taken me a week to recover my body and mind after the lakes event so I could write a ‘palatable’ report. The event, the organisation, the people and the track were exceptional, the report I would have written earlier would have been far more ...self absorbed than the one I write now, mostly due to the damage to my knees and the challenges I am facing as a rider adapting to the 1989 CR250RK. That I can now write this report is a sign I can see some future and I am in action to fulfill the potential of this bike. Since Nowra I have ridden a modern MX track at Cessnock against modern bikes in an attempt to learn how I can ride this bike better and faster, I brought this ‘practice at a race meeting’ thinking to the lakes, I did not contest the starts, I let the field go then rode my own race to learn how to ride the 1989 CR250RK. Unfortunately I felt every bump and jump hard in my shoulders and knees, the bike would not accelerate as I needed and I was not able to ride the bike like it should be ridden, as a result I was losing confidence with each ‘race’. Before I can race at Canberra, I need to get the suspension set up properly and sort out the Carburettion, once the bike issues are eliminated, if I can find a place to ride that has the same obsticles as the tracks being raced on and then I can work on my riding and vitally, I can build confidence. There is little point in wasting the time and resources racing when I am ‘rolling around’ until I master the obsticals of modern motocross tracks and build confidence, it is just too painful physically and mentally. I expect more of myself and when reality does not match my intention, having ‘fun’ is very difficult. It is time to cause a shift in how I ride this bike. Thanks to the Heaven committee and all the Heaven members whom make VMX Racing so much fun. A big thank you to the volunteers who make it possible for us to ride. Unfortunately there were no race Images worth using and I did not take any pit shots. NEXT: AUG 29 & 30 - Canberra - HEAVEN No Pointscore - Maybe? See more
14.01.2022 I am looking forward to Heaven's last 'race event' of 2020 at Cessnock next weekend (31 October / 1st November)... no points, no Championship, just another great opportunity to further develop my VMX riding skills.
04.01.2022 A big thank you must go to the Heaven Committee The Heaven Motorcycle Club, the primary Vintage Motocross Club in NSW held the first NSW VMX Race meeting for 2020 at the Nowra Motoplex 11th 12th July 2020. Peter takes up the story "It has taken a few days to think through the first race meeting of the year. Firstly so much credit and a big thank you must go to the Heaven Committee and all the people involved with making racing happen again. I can only imagine what needed ...to be organised and considered to enable over 100 riders to go racing with all the chaos and madness that is happening right now. After a long break I am attempting to step up to another level. I am racing two very different bikes; the 1979 Honda CR250RZ with air cooled, drum brakes and twin shocks and the 1989 Honda CR250RK with water cooled, disk brakes and single linkage shock. I can now applaud the talented riders who make this look so easy. I now understand the mental gymnastics and adaption required to ride two very different bikes. I am not finding it easy, especially when going from the 1979 bike to the 1989 bike. When I ride the 1989 bike first I ride aggressively and adapt the same style onto the 1979 bike. However if I ride the 1979 bike first then ride the 1989 bike, the results are woeful and I am much slower. During the races I was so focused on adapting to the ‘different 1989 bike’ I struggled to pick up the pace. This is most evident under brakes as the braking reference points are so different between drum brakes and disk brakes, it completely changes every corner. I definitely have some work to do. This meeting was without points or a Championship, so I shifted my focus to testing mode and worked on adapting my riding between bikes and on my braking technique, ruts and cornering. I did not do well at Nowra so I am looking at testing on a rough and rutted track before the next race. Thanks to the Heaven committee and all the Heaven members whom make VMX Racing so much fun. A big thank you to the volunteers who make it possible for us to ride. Thank you also to Andrew and Beverly MacIntosh for all their help over the weekend and for Andrew’s 'gentle guidance' when I am not riding well. Race Images thanks to Kristina Zivanovic and Envision Media. NEXT: AUG 1 & 2 - Lakes Awaba - HEAVEN No Pointscore.
02.01.2022 CHANGE IS GOOD, ANYTHING IS NOW POSSIBLE It has been a tough year for us all, it saddens me that some have been hit harder than others and there are signs of recovery, may be to a ‘new normal’, may be a new way of living and working, maybe for some a totally different set of values and a new way of life. There is always opportunity in chaos, the way I see it, change is good, anything is now possible. This is a great time to re-set and re prioritise, to look at what is next?...Continue reading
