30.01.2022 Cover 19 has been ridiculously challenging for our pub, our Fraser community and all of you awesome customers who visit us up here at the top. We would like to ...take the time to thank all of you for the unbelievable support we have received during this time. We face yet another challenge from the 17th of December that involves you and our staff. With the pub being deemed a non-essential business, we are now only allowed to permit vaccinated patrons and staff entry. This is the law, and unless we abide by it we risk being shut down. The store and fuel station will still be open to all as it is deemed 'essential'. Please understand that this is not reflective of our personal opinion or that of our staff, so please be kind to us as we unfortunately have to enforce this new law!! Thanks again from the bottom of our hearts for your continued support and we can't wait to serve you all some cold frothys up here soon!!!! Cheers, Nicky xx See more

17.01.2022 Absolutely disgusting behaviour seen today on K’gari. A visitor has picked up a Wongari pup and took these photos and posted to social media. The biggest risk ...to wongari on K’gari are visitors who don’t do the right thing. This person has put this pup and themselves at risk. We ask when you visit Butchulla Country you show respect for our animals! Our mob work hard every day to protect Country so it’s extremely disappointing to see such utter disregard for the safety of our wildlife. Give Wongari space K’gari is their space!

14.01.2022 K’gari (formerly Fraser Island), is the largest sand island in the world and home to the Butchulla people, the Traditional Owners of the Island. In 1770, the lo...cal Butchulla people observed Captain Cook sailing by the Island, and in 1836 Captain James Fraser and his wife Eliza shipwrecked on K’gari giving the island its former European name. State Library has a free, downloadable #teachingresource on our dedicated Curriculum Connect learning resources page, recommended for Year 5 and Year 6, where students can learn about significant events during and after European arrival on K’gari and the impacts of colonisation. http://ow.ly/EJ9q50GV6uw If you would like to learn some of the Butchulla language, we encourage you to explore State Library’s Indigenous Languages Map. http://ow.ly/kJl950GV6Gf State Library members can also request a copy of the ‘Dictionary of the Butchulla language / compiled by Jeanie Bell’ through State Library collections! http://ow.ly/ljY350GV6Ka Group of decorated men with shields and spears at Fraser Island, 1870s, Brisbane John Oxley Library, State Library of Queensland. 04.01.2022 Rain on the roof has never sounded so sweet! 23 mm last night should help the firies. There’s a chance of more showers today and again later in the week. Thank ...you to everyone offering support over the past few weeks. We remain hopeful the island will reopen for visitors soon. It is amazing to see how quickly the vegetation is recovering. This shot was taken on the way to Wathumba about 4 weeks after the fire moved through. See more
