25.01.2022 Like most things in life, spiritual growth takes time. No one is expected to go from "zero to hero" overnight. For centuries across traditions, spiritual formation has been understood as a three part process - for both laity and ordained. Each step fosters ever deeper union with the divine, the world and the self. The peace fostered by this integrated wholeness transforms lives and communities. For the early Benedictine Monks and Franciscan Friars, these were Postulant, Nov...itiate, Profession. For the modern day Society of St Francis they are Enquirer, Novitiate, Professed Tertiary. The Pace Community adopts these ancient practices as Enquirer, Explorer, Companion. Each is explained on our website. Where are you in your spiritual formation? How might this inform your personal Rhythm of Life? How might this inform your daily practices or the next book you read? Pace is here to accompany you, nourish you and guide you as you explore this exciting path. Let's together bring a little peace to our world! #pace #spiritualgrowth #spiritualjourney #contemplativelife

25.01.2022 Our next reflection is a talk entitled Franciscan Mysticism given in 2018 by Franciscan Friar and spiritual writer, Richard Rohr. Here Rohr defines mysticism broadly and proceeds to unpack mysticism from a Franciscan perspective. He offers many insights, explanations, references and imagery to foster your contemplative journey. As the annual celebration of Pace's inspiration, St Francis of Assisi, approaches on October 4 and I head off on two weeks leave, I hope this excelle...nt talk offers many insights. You might discern why Francis is the inspiration for a contemplative spiritual community focused on peace. There is enough here to kick around for at least a few weeks, so don't feel overwhelmed. Take as long as you need with the videos; watch them as many times as you like; reflect on the questions in ways that suit you e.g. while walking, gardening, journaling, on public transport. I encourage you to gather with some like minded friends over a cuppa or a vino to explore and discuss together - great insights often emerge among friends! These videos are free of charge and accessible online from any internet connected device. I offer some discussion questions for each of the two videos below to help start your reflections and conversations. These are only suggestions... Enjoy! Pace e bene, D
25.01.2022 Inspired by the life and spirituality of St Francis of Assisi, Pace is equally indebted to the thought and writings of a diverse array of contemplatives, philosophers, writers and theologians. None more so than Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. Check out this great article on his life and thought. #pacecommunity #spirituality #cosmichope

24.01.2022 A pilgrimage is a journey of both body and spirit, most often to unfamiliar and sacred lands seeking new or enhanced insights about oneself, others or the world through lived experience. COVID-19 has forced Pace to press pause on our plans for pilgrimages. We had a trip to Assisi, Italy, in mind when the pandemic hit. But... we'll get pilgrimages running as soon as it is safe to travel. Watch this space! #pace #pilgrimage #spiritualgrowth #peace
24.01.2022 "THERE'S SO MUCH IN THIS! Can we talk?" Yes, we can. Our interview with Pace Companion, Marie Thompson, was a cracker and got lots of folk thinking! So much so, many have asked for some time to unpack it. Join us via Zoom this Friday 28 August from 10am! Bring a cuppa and your journal and we'll share a chat. Don't stress if Friday doesn't work for you. We'll offer a second opportunity very soon for outside work hours. ... PM or comment below for Zoom details! 22.01.2022 THOUGHT FOR THE WEEKEND... Root word for religion: Latin; religare "to bind" Defining trait of modernity: "individualism"... See the problem? ..... What about the root words for: Union: Latin; unus "one" Association: Latin; associare "to unite" Club: Scandinavian; cudgel "a social institution" Modern Western society is overwhelmingly anti-institution, anti-authority, subjective and relative. Most Australians in 2020, especially those under 40 years of old, have been culturally coded for individualism not binding. Or put another way, "I can do what ever I want as long as I don't hurt anyone else!" See the challenge facing not just organised religion, but Western society more broadly? Does this offer an insight into why so many see themselves as "spiritual but not religion" - spirituality accessible by the individual but religion is practiced collectively? Perhaps why so many believe but choose not to belong? The lesson of history is that humanity best confronts the biggest of its challenges when humanity unites as one. How do we unite to collectively confront the challenges of our time when the organising elements of society passed are no longer fit for purpose? #pace #reconcile #bringpeopletogether #unite #OneInSpirit

16.01.2022 If peace without is possible, it is only so if we start by bringing peace within. You are much more influential in our shared pursuit for peace than any legislation, policy or politician. The contemplative life invites us to sit with our humanness, our brokenness, our fears. This is uncomfortable and, hence, avoided by many. But growth in the spiritual life emerges through courage, by allowing yourself to linger with vulnerableness. While this is not a part of our culture to...day, especially in tall poppy Australia, there is not a person on the planet who doesn't live with inner demons of some kind and none of are us want to forgo comfort - to stop pretending our own pain is not often the source of the pain we inflict on others. Are you willing to forgo some comfort for some growth? What inner demons may you need to linger with to do that? Do you have the courage to be vulnerable? #pace #contemplation #peacewithin #peacewithout #wholness
14.01.2022 Pace's purpose of peace through reconciliation - within ourselves and within the world around us - is our intentional commitment to "go upstream". Imagine... imagine if we can help people guide their way through conflict, anxiety, violence, poverty and loss... a lot less would end up "in the river". #peace #reconciledwhole

11.01.2022 WHAT IS PEACE? How do you define peace? Negative Peace is how most of us understand the concept. And it's clearly a good thing! Negative peace is often the precursor to positive peace in developing nations or those gripped by conflict, violence or war. The life of the mystic calls us to both contemplation and action. 09.01.2022 #Pace seeks to serve as an #instrumentofpeace in our complex world. How? Isn't spirituality just sitting around cross-legged on the floor singing kumbaya? Authentic spirituality integrates contemplation and action; mysticism and mission. It is both human and divine; particular and universal. The transcendent nature of contemplation calls the contemplative into reconciling action. Once we experience the world in its infinite wholeness, we are compelled to bring that infinite ...Continue reading
