18.01.2022 this is in Sydney - but may be of interest to some? https://lawsense.com.au/law-for-mental-health-practitioners

16.01.2022 Don't miss our next PD event Saturday 23 March 1pm-5pm: Art Therapy for Mental Health and Informed Consent. We all accept that informed consent is a vital part of an ethical counselling and psychotherapy practice but there are many aspects to be considered that are often overlooked. In her presentation Trish Walsh will focus on key aspects of the practice of informed consent, especially on disclosure at the outset of the therapeutic relationship, as well as the question of e...stablishing on-going informed consent. Su Hanfling, a registered art therapist will outline a range of approaches to using creativity for mental health recovery and wellness, and to support communication and social connection in a diverse community. Moving outside the lines of those pervasive adult ‘art therapy’ colouring-in books, into the chaotic universe of metaphor, narrative and creative self-expression, Su will provide an outline of some of the core concepts guiding her art therapy practice. Venue: The Griffin Centre Canberra city. For more details and to register go to the PACFA website.

14.01.2022 something to nourish our own selves?

13.01.2022 September PD event When Words Fail: Addressing Trauma With Expressive Arts Therapies From singing Swahili rockabye baby songs, sharing parts of ourselves via our own mandala, through to rhythmic walking, stomping and marching with big arm movements, and eyes held high - these and many other experiences in our September PD event vividly contributed to the experiential learning we all gained on this important topic for counsellors. Dr Kirstin Robertson-Gillam expertly guided th...e group on the application of music and art therapies for mental health through demonstrations of Swahili call and response singing, outlining the underlying theories and sharing powerful videos of people who have experienced improved mental health through song and art. In our next session Sandra Kay Lauffenburger deftly guided all of us in rhythmic movements that became increasingly expressive to the point where we were all using vocalised sounds combined with body movements and pictures to express ourselves to each other in ways that used words not present in any dictionary. A short presentation on the underlying therapeutic principles of dance movement psychotherapy was then provided to the fortunate 16 PACFA members who attended this most illuminating and profound PD.
