22.01.2022 Dam Construction is as much art as it is a science. Experience counts when it comes to dam construction as you need to understand the ground conditions, soil types and catchment area. Each site is different and requires careful analysis to maximise your opportunities. We offer free quotes and advise. Dam Maintenance is also an important and often neglected part of essential property maintenance. I have recently cleaned out one of my dams which I first built in 1995. So after... 25 years the silt buildup and vegetation growth dictated the need for a clean out.(Note slideshow) Cattle are an issue as they continually trample the edges of the dam increasing silt. Although Earthworks are complete foundations are in place for a floating island, jetty and bridge. Creek gravel has being spread out in two areas to allow cattle to drink. The remainder of the banks will be fenced off and re-vegetated. Water capacity was increased 30%. Spillway and overflow was replaced. See more

16.01.2022 I have noticed over the years that there is a lot of confusion regarding the terms used to describe Bitumen and Asphalt. All questions will be answered but let me describe some of the different types Driveway/Roadway finishes. Bitumen Sealing can be 2 coat or single coat. Hot or cold. 1.Cold Bitumen Sealing uses Bitumen Emulsion which contains up to 60% water and is not recommended.... 2. Hot Bitumen Sealing uses Bitumen heated to 180 degrees sprayed using a specialised Spray truck. This is the process recommended by us. 3. A single coat Hot Bitumen Seal can be used to recover and seal an existing Bitumen surface. This is not suitable for new unsealed surfaces. 4. A 2 Coat Bitumen seal is the standard that we recommend to all customers. This consists of spraying 1 coat of hot Bitumen then spreading an aggregate of stone onto the bitumen seal. This is followed by a second coating of Hot Bitumen followed by a final spreading of aggregate often of a different size to produce an interlocking surface. 5. Asphalt is a completely different product to Bitumen Sealing. Asphalt requires the use of a Specialised piece of equipment known as a Paver. Asphalt is a heated premixed combination of Aggregate and Bituminous additives produced at an Asphalt plant. This is then transported to the Job-site and tipped into the paver to produce a smooth surface. Asphalt is a superior surface to Bitumen Seals but comes at a significantly increased cost.

14.01.2022 Roadworks and Driveway Repair and Construction. Most public roadways have a nominal pavement depth of at least 300mm. This usually consists of two layers of compacted roadbase 150mm each on a compacted subgrade. Most residential driveways have inadequate roadbase thicknesses resulting in premature failure. In our view residential driveways must have a minimum of 150mm CBR80 Roadbase compacted. Bitumen or Asphalt on roads and driveways are only designed as a waterproof wearing... course. After Bitumen roads exceed 10 years the Bitumen seal loses its flexibility accelerating decline of the surface. If preparation is not adequate particularly compaction premature failure will occur. Preparation is what we specialise in. If you have a cracked or potholed driveway we are happy to provide a free assessment and recommended solutions. See more
