12.01.2022 LEARNING TO YARN ABOUT LAND, WATER, AND CLIMATE ACTIONIf the land is sick, you are sick, says Fiona Livingstone (quoted in the linked article by Georgina Kenyon). She explains that the traditional Aboriginal concept of health is much broader than that of conventional western medicine. Aboriginal people, she says, are deeply connected to country, the place with which they have spiritual ties. The personal, social and ecological are closely interconnected: health is t...he state in which they are all in balance. A strong sense of responsibility to the land, of being custodians of the land we live on, is intrinsic to Australian Aboriginal culture. It means looking after the water and the land for the next generation. But climate change has made the weather chaotic, with drier winters and erratic or failing rains, especially in the south and east. Ganma means a place where salt water and fresh water meet. It is used as a metaphor for different people coming together to share knowledge and reach mutual understanding. It’s also the basis of what Aboriginal people call yarning sitting in a circle on the ground, sharing stories. Ganma has come to mean If you listen to us, we’ll listen to you. That is, two cultures listening to and learning from each other. It’s symbolic, representing different communities working to find practical solutions when dealing with ecological grief and the loss of nature and home. 10.01.2022 The disruption of conflicting non-Indigenous governance structures on traditional governance systems has occurred around the world as part of the legacy of the imposition of colonial legal systems. A common theme in these regions has been the view that traditional communal governance systems impede economic development. Communal ownership has not permitted any country to develop and rejecting more complex traditional governance systems that include consensus decision makin...g which, by its nature, is a matter of slow agreement, potentially changing over time. The conflict between western style governance, largely driven by economic considerations, and traditional communal governance systems is, at heart, a clash of cultures. We need to invoke the body of law in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples which has as its cornerstone principle self-governance for Indigenous peoples and autonomy in their local and internal affairs. To build within the population: a willingness to acknowledge the resilience of Indigenous peoples in overcoming the challenges they have faced; respect for the unique cultures, protocols, practices and traditions of Indigenous peoples; and a reciprocity for Indigenous communities.

She writes poetry (had some published in the USA) and sketches these abstract pen diagrams... 2. She is vegan unless the hosted function or venue does not provide this option. Her first experience singing on stage in front of an audience was at the age of 4 for a mother's day church service to the oldest woman in the congregation. I do feel honoured to have fans but not when a fan feels it is their right or entitlement to own me" ~ #PacificDiva . . . Firstly, harrassment and stalking is a criminal offence in Australia. It can happen to anybody and it is important you speak to the authorities about your safety and protection. Mak...e a log of everything even if you think it was a small detail. And most importantly do not blame yourself. . . . I have had some close calls from obsessed fans but this one had gone too far. I put through my first Personal Violence Order approved by the courts.
