16.01.2022 MITCHELL HOUSE ARTS CENTRE Art Journaling and all things Paper When the Shire of Dardanup asked Mairim Garrett to run creative workshops, she wondered how to provide an inclusive experience. Art Journaling turned out to be the answer. It combines craft and art making in a unique mix - no prior skills needed.... Mitchell House is excited to introduce Mairim as their newest member. Mairim is now working at Mitchell House on Thursday mornings from 10:30am. If you love colour, fabric, photography, collage and stories then Art Journaling makes space for all of these interests. 15.01.2022 MITCHELL HOUSE ARTS CENTRE Our lovely Joanne Francis has been blessed with the local support of our community bank, Bendigo Bank, and the manager, Jason Price. They have acquired two of Joanne’s pastels to adorn their offices. Joanne Francis :... As you drive along Woogenellup Rd from the roundabout in Mt Barker about 10 minutes east towards Chetserpass Rd there is an old stone building - stockyards & paddocks in the foreground, farm buildings just past the river with the Stirling Range in the distance. Across the road from this is the scenic inspiration for the Saplings, Elders and Time. Young sapling trees, very old (elder) trees with all their character bark colours, and the evidence of the passing of time. Late winter reveals uneaten dry grasses, green pastures, and some crops flowering. Very local Plantagenet scenery that I have come to love very much as I have made this area home. The intensity of the pastel pigment helps to tell the story of these colour changes. See more

It can be a photo or artwork but it has to be something distinctivel...y Great Southern, and with a Christmas or holiday theme. It's a great opportunity for local creatives to get invaluable exposure, and a cash prize. The deadline for submission is less than three weeks away, so get to it! 07.01.2022 The Mt Barker Nature Photography Exhibition is on at Frost Pavilion daily until Sunday 25 October from 9.30am to 4.30pm. Frost is at racecourse/showgrounds, follow the signs.
