25.01.2022 5am wake up was rewarded with some solid Calamari Squid this morning and they were absolutely delicious. Video will be up by end of week.
25.01.2022 We had a tough day on Tooms Lake for the opening of trout season Saturday with not a single fish to present to the weigh in for the bourbon boys challenge. We w...eren't alone however with the majority of anglers going home empty handed. Was great however to help out the Launceston Angling Club with some prizes going to some worthy junior and senior anglers. Does your club or event need prizes, then shoot us a message as we love getting involved with worthy organisations that further angling.
25.01.2022 Finally managed a couple of shore based sessions on the Derwent River. Plenty of action about with bait schools and plenty of big mullet. Bream are quiet, though have managed a few smaller models on Cranka Lures
25.01.2022 Video is up of our post xmas trip snorkeling for abalone https://youtu.be/tguUN-p1P54
25.01.2022 Arrived to find fish busting up at the ramp and all it took was a single cast to tempt this 50cm + Brown Trout, which was quickly released. The target was rainb...ows however and a quick troll for 10 minutes and we found what we were looking for. This guy unfortunately suffered hook damage so was kept and gifted to a friend and is most likely being sashimi'd right now. Both Trout couldn't resist the DR57S - Sandy. Redfin as usual were a menace and we caught well over a dozen on the LSP55D - Sergeant Major. Being a pest species they were humanely dispatched and were put to good use feeding a pair of Sea Eagles who were more than happy to swoop by to collect the offering. We have these and all our other lures in stock and fitted with BKK Hooks Australia trebles for only $8 each.
23.01.2022 With Winter finally over the weather has warmed enough for us to start getting out and fishing again. The video of our latest trip is now up on our YouTube channel. In this adventure we head to Little Swanport chasing Bream and Flathead. Though the fishing was a little slow and the Bream were still high in the system we did manage a few good fish including some nice Silver Trevally, Australian Salmon and Flathead.... https://youtu.be/iUtL8-cW6Gg
23.01.2022 Headed out to Craigbourne Dam yesterday to chase some of the stocked Rainbow Trout and put some of the new Pointer Lure Project Lures to the test. Arrived around dawn to find the Lake surprisingly empty but launched with a pair of small boats. Expected to find the fish schooling in the Bay but they were surprisingly absent. Headed back to behind the dam wall and picked up the first after 30 minutes after launching on the DR57S - Sun Dog.... With no more about headed back out to the bay to try my favourite spot for Browns and was rewarded yet again. Trolling two rods behind the kayak a fish hit and missed the Sun Dog twice, then jump all over the LSP55S Coral Snake running beside it. The fish was an estimate 50cm Brown that was released. Continued to troll towards the bottom of the Dam and with a small tinny in front of me I was forced wide and trolled the outside of a stand of sunken timber. Spying some line wrapped around the lower branches of a tree I thought I might score a free lure, but instead found a double hook up of rainbow trout, again on the Sun Dog and Coral Snake. The "rainbows" are domestic stock so tend to school together soon after release and this was proven when over the next 10 or so passes I found another 4 fish, 1 lost, 2 kept and one gifted to a French angler fishing nearby. Even managed to test and catch fish on the new bigger profile GL65D - Jayne and the new, not yet released CB82 "Chonky Boi" - Perch Was certainly a fun 4+ hours with the Pointer Lure Project lures proving themselves once again.
23.01.2022 As were sure you've noticed the page has been quiet the last few months as I've taken a step back from fishing whilst I concentrate on other interests. Whilst I still enjoy wetting a line it's now without cameras. We will be uploading content sometime in the future but only new and unique experiences. There's only so many times people want to see us catch bream and trout from the Derwent.... Quietly in the background our YouTube channel has continued to grow with over 50 000 channel viewers. Whilst nothing huge in the scheme of things, I'm still pleased that people enjoy watching me catch fish. Tight lines to all our supporters and well see you again in the not too distant future.
23.01.2022 After getting absolutely toweled up on the weeknd by Jayne with her 7 calamari vs my donut it was back to the Derwent River for a quick half hour this afternoon. This time the roles were reversed with a pair of 30cm Bream to Jayne's nought and subsequent rage quit. Both fish fell to the Pointer Lure Project LSP55S in Smolt. I love this lure as it's so easy to fish. Just a slow roll and pause and the fish cant resist.
22.01.2022 Latest video is up featuring a couple of hours on the Upper Derwent River catching some big Brown Trout. We've also added some bonus footage of our (limited) captures the week prior. Make sure to comment and like the video as well as subscribe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UjJLJ8RY2k&feature=youtu.be
22.01.2022 12 months on and another 15k views despite only a couple of new videos. At this rate my great grandchildren can monetise the channel.
22.01.2022 Local angler Darren Lord decided to challenge himself by using only our lures today on the Derwent River and it certainly paid dividends with some good fish. Ta...kes a great selfie too Lures are all DR57S in Pepper, Blue Steel & Flamethrower. By both buying lures from us this month and posting photos of his catch he has doubled his chance of winning the Abu Garcia combo worth over $100.
21.01.2022 Pointer Lure Project pro-staffer wilbs just pulled this Bream from the Derwent near plenty on a bunch of worms. Whilst not common they do frequent the upper reaches and will happily live in fresh water as we found earlier this year.
20.01.2022 Joined the masses this morning under the Tasman Bridge hunting kingfish. With a ton of boat traffic and not a fish to be seen I headed back into Montagu Bay to see how the new Pointer Lure Project lures go. Managed a couple of Bream and a whole stack of Flathead.
20.01.2022 We're back. Well nearly. After a long hiatus were currently working on a new video fishing muddy water for big dirty fighting Bream. With over a dozen fish hitting the boat and 2x 41cm forkers there's plenty of fishing action in this one.... As usual Cranka Lures crabs and vibes got the job done. Keep an eye our for the video this weekend.
19.01.2022 Well it only took less than 10 minutes and Jayne was onto her first ever Trout. Despite a few bumps we didn't manage a second for the morning though. Craigbourne was full of insect hatches with dead bugs littering the water providing a massive amount of food for both the native and stocked fished.... Lure anglers will find the going tough over the next few months when targeting trout, but as we proved today, fish will still hit the right ones.
18.01.2022 New video is up. We recently had a crack at out first Tasmanian Bream Classics round on the Derwent River. We had an outstanding first day with a 6+kg bag, but that was only enough to put us in 4th. ... A great result regardless and we had an absolute ball, with more than just Bream hitting the boat, sometimes literally. https://youtu.be/oCxxcvHJzIo
18.01.2022 Latest video is up. Successful mission hunting Rainbow Trout at Craigbourne Dam with 6 hitting the boat, 1 lost and 1 Big Brown. Oh and a few reddies.... Make sure to like and subscribe and comment so I know what type of fishing everyone wants to watch me do.... https://youtu.be/X2lNvrI2q9U
17.01.2022 Another good haul of local abalone despite the commercial guys taking 600+ kgs recently a local tells me. Despite sticking my head in every nook and cranny I did not spot a single Crayfish so the area has certainly seen a lot of pressure. Whilst the target was abalone it was hard to focus with the amazing amount of aquatic life about.... Big Blue Throat Wrasse, Magpie Perch, Boarfish, Leatherjacket and the biggest Flounder I've seen in my life were amongst the fish I swam with. The highlight had to be the two big Pot Bellied Seahorse we spied and took time to admire. Thankfully I caught it all on video which I'm hoping to edit and post this week.
16.01.2022 Plenty going on in the Derwent River at the moment with big flocks of birds working the Tasman Bridge this week and I would suspect the Kingies may soon be about. Further up the river and theres a few Bream about despite the near constant East and Southerly breezes.
14.01.2022 Salmon Ponds Heritage Hatchery and Gardens is amazing place, if only they'd let me bring a rod in.
13.01.2022 Cameron from Fishmad Adventures has put together this awesome edit of a recent trip chasing schooled up Winter Bream in the Derwent (Jordan) River. With 4 GoPro cameras and a drone we captured some great footage. Being Winter the fish were inactive and sitting deep in big schools which made for incredible fun when we found them.... We caught around 40 between us with all my fish coming to the Cranka Lures Cockle Shell Vibe. Make sure to give the video a like and subscribe to the channel. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4fenSwcmayQ&feature=share
13.01.2022 How cool are these.

11.01.2022 It's been a good 12 months since I last tackled some stream fishing so thought a quick trip to the Tyenna was in order. Managed just the one small Trout but it reminded me why this type of fishing is some of the best. The fish took to the air several times getting a good foot or two of air whilst I wound as quick as I could to regain line.... These little stream fish are amazing to watch in action and as always thanks to Strike Tiger with their micro spoon doing the damage.
10.01.2022 Craigbourne Dam is my favourite winter fishery and is at its best this time of year. Last fortnight we managed 2 healthy rainbows and a good brown. The fish were mostly taking deep diving Cranka minnows. Today was better again with 4 Rainbows and one solid Brown weighing around 3 pounds all falling to the Pointer Lure Project Baby Bow shallow floating minnow.... Shore based fishermen were also benefiting from the recent stocking with plenty of fish falling to a bunch of worms on a simple running rig.
10.01.2022 Cleaning out a few of my old lures for sale if anyone is interested?
09.01.2022 Another new lure added to our DR57S range. This one has been designed specifically for an upcoming Bream comp we are competing in on the infamous Derwent River.... Whilst we will be keeping some for personal use, we will also be selling a limited amount for our usual $8. But it needs a name....... Comment your suggestion, like and share this post and if we pick yours you get one, plus the new E-ORE and a box of BKK Hooks Australia trebles for free.
08.01.2022 Awesome offer from our friends over at Pointer Lures.
07.01.2022 With the Tasmanian Bream Classics Derwent round coming up next weekend it was time to stock up on the essentials. As it's been proven theres no better tournament winning lure, anywhere, than the Cranka Lures crab. These things catch fish like nothing else. No twitching, pausing, burning or ripping. Simply drop it in the water and the fish will come from everywhere for it.
07.01.2022 Huge day in the tiny tinny today fishing Cremorne, Slopen Island and return. Managed plenty of fat Sand (school) whiting a couple of Gummies, a handful of flathead, Wrasse and a couple of dozen Australian Salmon. The video will take some editing with so many fish caught but keep an eye out for it dropping next week.
07.01.2022 It's been a long time between videos as we've been focused on other ventures. But we managed to capture some footage from a recent trip to Craigbourne Dam chasing Trout and even managed to hook one of the Monster Atlantic's, though the fight didn't last long on 6lb gear. If you want to see more videos make sure you Like and Subscribe and drop a comment to let us know what you would like to see.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLpg7uGq2I4&feature=youtu.be
06.01.2022 Chased Kingfish from the shore last night in near hurricane conditions.
04.01.2022 Dropped, literally a big crayfish today whilst snorkelling.. absolutely devastated but at least we have a calamari topper for tea.
03.01.2022 Testing of our new DR57S - Devil Dog on the Upper Derwent River was a definite success today with two big wild Brown Trout hitting the net. The fish were estima...ted at 1.5 and 1 kg and released to catch another day. Like all our lures these cost just $8.50 each and pre-orders are available now and available from our online store Monday.
03.01.2022 After all these years fishing the Derwent River i learned something new today. There's some bloody big blue throat Wrasse lurking about and they love crabs. Still managed a few Black Bream though from the Jetties around the Regatta grounds with the best being a 37cm forker on the ever reliable Cranka Lures crabs.
03.01.2022 Has been quite a while since I last pulled the kayak out for a Derwent session and today didn't dissapoint. With Bait fish aplenty the salmon were about in massive schools and proved a real pest as did the Flathead. However I did manage 5 good bream and was busted off by a monster I couldn't stop. Even manage to get stung by a gurnard after he got trapped in my shoe upon landing. The Pointer Lure Project LSP55S - BLOODY SHRIMP was the go to lure today.
03.01.2022 https://youtu.be/dLO_iU3O6lo Big days fishing on Browns River with 15-20 fish reaching the boat including 2 fish over 40cm ttf and a couple of heartbreaking bust offs.
03.01.2022 One of those sessions on the Derwent tonight. Arrived to find salmon busting up everywhere and after catching a few I managed to hook a solid trout which I went... to hard on and dropped it when the line got stuck in the split ring during the fight pulling the hooks. With the salmon moving on I hooked 2 solid Bream with the hooks pulling on both and I was ready to tantrum and toss the rod in. To make matters worse a nice little trout then crashed into my leg chasing whitebait right on the shores edge. Persistance finally paid off with two small bream then the salmon came back and I thought I'd catch one before I left. Burning the lure along the surface, I stopped and paused the lure which was then absolutely walloped by a fish I called for a big trout as the first run was huge, then it stayed deep and refused to come off the bottom. Next run was right up into the shallows then back out deep. Finally I got control and bought it back to shore to find a proper lump of Derwent Bream that measured 39cm to the fork. All fish were caught on the Pointer Lure Project DR57S in flamethrower which you can pick up from our Facebook shop for just $8 each, when we have them back in stock at the end of the month.
02.01.2022 The guys at Kayak 4 Play are having an awesome sale and are offering a further discount of $10 on the book "Kayak fishing - The ultimate guide". Just add the code "Paddlefish" at checkout. 02.01.2022 Amazing morning IN the water at primrose sands. Took a little while to find them but in under 90 minutes I bagged out on Blacklip abalone. Conditions were prime with crystal clear water and sunshine but what made the difference today were my Octomask from Hurtle Gear which fits like nothing I've worn before and gives fog free, perfect vision. And my Anchor Wet Suits which kept me perfectly warm in the chilly tassie water.... Xmas day is going to be extra tasty.
02.01.2022 Final Reminder, entries for the giveaway finish Thursday midnight. All lure purchases must be paid for prior and/or all photos must be posted prior to this time to be accepted. Entries are sitting at around 15 so chances of winning are high.
02.01.2022 Next video is off to a great start.
