25.01.2022 Turns out Weekends when the wind is shite for offshore kayak adventures are not so bad for yak adventures in protected waters with friends and fam

23.01.2022 This wave hit Ken so hard I thought for sure he went POP! .. was such a great session sharpening the surf skills in preperation for Tuna season. Best you start getting paddle fit becuase the season will be here before we know it

23.01.2022 Was good to be back in a familiar ride again for this trip today ...have had many many great sessions at Sunshine Beach in the Profish Reload and today was one of the first launching with the Bixpy. Kicked off at 5am, covered a lot of ground for the next 6hrs trolling live baits, dead baits, bottom fishing, fast speeds, low speeds, paddle assist and still had 1/4 battery left by the end of the trip and shoulder felt great afterwards. @bixpy_australia @bixpy @vikingkayaks

23.01.2022 Loading a 16ft 34kg kayak in a tight car park - will show you how I do it even while protecting a sore shoulder #momentum video to follow later

20.01.2022 Protecting rods in the surf is a number one question you guys have asked me about the Hobie Revo 16 so in this blog and video guide for Railblaza I share my solution which is also an ideal solution for most kayaks..oh and a couple of tuna were harmed in the making of this RAILBLAZAZ-Man Lures Australia Okuma Australia Sunstate Hobie - https://www.railblaza.com//how-to-set-up-hobie-fishing-ka/

20.01.2022 Still plenty of fresh running down river this morning, bass a bit quiet so went for a play in the little rapids on the Profish GT.

20.01.2022 Can I surf the Hobie? Video just dropped on my channel, was alot to learn and conditions speed that process up real fast! 20.01.2022 Knock knock let me through !

20.01.2022 The mighty little Viking Nemo is made for this kind of skinny water creek bashing, even my Profish GT had trouble getting into the tight waters where the fish were hiding but @grug_the_goldfish snuck in quietly for the spoils with the little @zmanaustralia GrubZ #sootygrunter #freshwaterfishing #australia #zmanfishing #grubz #10xtough

19.01.2022 The BIG Cobia loss still haunts me to this day - bloody impressed with the Okuma Australia Azores 4000 combo in this session though great mid priced rod and reel combo with a lot of power and reliability https://youtu.be/E5VSbP_IPwQ

19.01.2022 My latest kayak review is of a plastic offshore fishing ski from South Africa, "Legend Trident" My interests were mainly the front hatch and length plus the obvious durability advantage of plastic, as these 2 features appeal for surf launches and currently limited in all the plastic fishing kayaks available. Key reason that these features are limited in the current plastic fishing kayaks is that none of them have been designed solely for surf, more for all round use with the... ability to do surf launches with the right planning and preperation. From a manufacturers point of view this makes commercial sense given the size of the dedicated offshore/surf based launch fishing market is considerably smaller then the rest of the kayak fishing market worldwide. With that in mind its quite an achievement for Legend to commit the resources to a project like this which has been largely dominated by composite skis of which the reduced weight factor compared to plastic is a big appeal to me although the durability concern is also real as I expect alot from my kayaks and give them a good workout, so you can imagine my curiosity to think I could get something close to the best of both worlds with the Legend ! So back to the 2 things about this that peaked my interest...Longer means faster, bigger hatch more convenient for rods and longer fish as currently any fish over 1.3m is a little tricky to manage...not that I have had that problem often Note: Since filming this review the ski has had some changes one most noteably the weight, est now to be 30kgs (although i did not weigh it I have handled plenty of kayaks over the years and can say this one I tried was easily 34-35kgs). Will prob do a refresher on this kayak one day when and if its possible ...or even get some feedback about these changes direct from Captn Gingerbeard Hope you enjoy the review - https://youtu.be/Silp3c4mDb8 Be sure to check out ActionHat too when your done, great addition to your camera kit, perfect for situations like this where the kayak does not have my usual camera mount options.

19.01.2022 Finesse FrogZ for the win! 2nd cast of the trip and fishon! Slow roll and let them little legs kick @zmanaustralia @okumaaustralia #zmanfishing #ifishzman #10xtough #australianbass #bassfishing

16.01.2022 With all that pressure from the storm coming I thought for sure the Bass down at my local creek might be interested in a bite and 2 cast confirmed that slow rolled Zman frog triggered a bite #zmanfishing #ifishzman #australianbass #bass #zmanfrogz

15.01.2022 Tell you what this wild bass thing is getting a little addictive and its not even the summer bite - quick afternoon adventure with my son Milan saw him land a good sized bass on the 2" Zman GrubZ which had him in all sorts of trouble running to the timber then into the current, bit of fun to watch the little Viking Nemo do a few 360. Then we explored a little more of the river flicking at every snag and running a few little rapids, takes you to some pretty nice places this Bass life..think I might indulge in a little more of this over summer in some skinny waters nearby Z-Man Lures Australia Okuma Australia Viking Kayaks Viking Kayaks AustraliaPlatypus Fishing Lines

10.01.2022 One of the greatest things about filming these kayak adventures is I get to document the journey over time and in particular that of our kids through these adventures. This great memory of Alexanders first tuna at age 9 is one to share. He gets to be involved in the whole process from planning the adventure to preparing the catch for the family to eat. This is a preview of the vid I will be uploading tonight - I hope you enjoy and check out the full Tuna Tuesday playlist here https://www.youtube.com/playlist

10.01.2022 I just needed a little more motivation to stop casting #onelastcast #stormfishing #qld #storm

10.01.2022 For my last day of work I got to spend the morning teaching Alec, 18yrs how to use his graduation gift from his parents. Viking Profish GT with Bixpy package, Alec is not only new to kayak fishing but also to river fishing so hopefully after a few tips he will soon be bringing home fresh flathead or whiting to the family. Great way to end the working year for me have a great xmas everyone.

09.01.2022 A little vid I did with a mate some time ago thats helped out many people over the years - might be a good time to do a refresher on your kayak re entry process to be sure you can. My key tips if you go out and practise in a safe environment are - dress as you would on a fishing trip including wearing your lifejacket. Try with no gear on first then again with as much gear on bord that your comfortable get a bit wet. Good luck and stay safe https://youtu.be/10H-X5tWPRY

09.01.2022 Soundtrack needed for this clip...what do you think?

09.01.2022 You can feel the pressure building, that storms ready to come, the water feels like a bath so let's see what's chewing

08.01.2022 Dolphins, caves and surf session...in this vid I share what we are lucky to have access to, filming and watching it back helps me to remember not to take the simple things for granted and to enjoy the little things that mean so much, such a great way to balance the mind body and soul...

08.01.2022 First time flicking for Sooty Grunter and got a great one in the net slow rolling the Zman GrubZ 2.5" on TT 1/8 jig head (1/0hook). Tough little fish towed me straight under a tree, can see why you fresh water guys like this skinny water fishing thanks @gympiegold for sharing the tips on where to find these fish . 07.01.2022 I saw a splash, I cast the Zman...not what I was hoping for

07.01.2022 Your not in the clear till your well clear! Get to know your local surf beach through a few practice sessions without the fishing gear...It really sucks getting smashed all the way back to the beach because you dropped your guard a little too early, even worse getting parted from your kayak when your a fair way out the back...can be a long swim! #practisemakesperfect #nevertoomuchpractice #kayakfishing #kayaksurf

07.01.2022 Trip report Noosa Yesterday with Daniele. After being off the water for so long this was as much a chance to just get out again as to get a fish. We chose noosa last minute to use the headland for protection from predicted wind. Jew Shoal the destination and let the fish finders tell the rest of the story from there. Easy launch, dolphin escort on way out past shark nets, lots of bird activity all the way from the beach to Jew Shaol but only very small surface bait with nothi...ng appearing to be under them from what we could tell. Wind higher then predicted as Jew Shoal so made it tricky to stay over the reef so we relied on fast drifts to get jigs, plastics and even trolled baits in front of anything. Sounder really only showed bait on bottom with few predators showing. Dropped bait jig to find the bait was pike. Sent a couple of them out as live baits for little reward. Daniele scored a very nice snapper on a drift using his jig, little bit of fun watching him try to land it then shortly after a couple of whales scrared the crap out of us passing very close and moving fast! We both got a little over the wind so pulled the pin around 9am and cruised back to enjoy a coffee by the beach Good to be back on the water and looking forward to many many more spring/summer adventures - be sure to share your reports in the Kayak Fishing Crew See you next tuna Tuesday Viking Kayaks Sunstate Hobie Lowrance RAILBLAZA

07.01.2022 Little pre storm adventure on Tues that kinda turned into during and after storm adventure

07.01.2022 Next time your out for a fish leave a little fuel in your tank for the end...I have found if you cant dedicate time to learn to control the kayak in the surf then it will always be unfamiliar and often intimidating..but with just a little time taken, even at the end of each fish, to strip the yak down and go play, it becomes familiar and confidence grows for each trip #practisemakesperfect #kayaksurf

06.01.2022 Little kayaks like the Viking Ozzie at 2.7m are great for surf play. Being so short they turn on a dime making it easy to learn to steer the kayak using your paddle and transfer of your body weight. Just expect it to take a bit longer to get out behind the sets as that shortness works against you on the way out #kayaksurf

06.01.2022 Rod tip protectors worked very well on the reload in the surf yesterday ...get yours from @vikingkayaks

06.01.2022 Just fitted the new Viking Rod tip protector to the GT, gotta say worth every cent to protect the rod tips and keep the deck organised. Will be adding one to the Offhsore kayak ASAP https://youtu.be/hD01gfhelwo

06.01.2022 Who can relate :-) https://www.facebook.com/james.diamond.50/videos/3324596280891421

06.01.2022 Also when your fishing for jacks don't call this for a Jack...had a little flick for some jacks today, turns out the year is drawing to a close and my Jack account is well into the negative

05.01.2022 Well thats another first - Joined the @lastcastadventures crew and @gympiegold for my first time fishing for Sooty Grunter and have to say I think I may partake in this little sport a bit more over summer...so much fun in some amazing waters (damn sight easier on the gear then the saltwater too ) - @zmanaustralia GrubZ for the win on this species too #ifishzman #zmanfishing #grubz #sootygrunter #freshwaterfishing #kayakfishing

05.01.2022 FAQ Time - How do I load my SOT kayak without a load assist and avoid injury to my back? Over the last 15 years working with kayaks I have loaded hundreds on roofs, into storage racks etc..for me this technique is by far the quickest and requires the least effort on the body. When done in a single fluent movement there is very little load on any single part of the body as its relying on momentum. The whole body works together in one motion. NOTE: A couple of tips before y...ou try this. 1. Obviously if you have a back injury or shoulder injury I recommend caution, I actually have both and can still load like this as I have practised it many many times. My personal weight limit before using a load assist device is 35kgs 2. Position the kayak relatively close to the car or trailer so you are not holding the kayak over your head for too long 3. Make sure all gear is removed (incl any water inside) and hatches are closed and locked. If there is water or items in the hull that can slide you will risk damage as the change the balance point 4. Make sure you know where the balance point is before lifting. Be careful in the wind too If its too windy then dont risk it Lastly if you need to see some load assist options or any other roof rack tips leave a comment with some details like what the kayak is and what vehicle your loading on so I can better answer. Thanks for watching #kayaktips

05.01.2022 To date this one is by far one of my best moments to capture on camera - it was Dec in QLD but felt like May in VIC fish had pretty much shut down but we had driven hours to be here so had to make a go of if, Blake was the most determined to get one of these fish to chew, myself and Grant could no longer feel our fingers so rods were down and hands tucked away inside our jackets all but defeated and ready to go home. Then from across the pond you hear the yahoooo!! Of blake... as he goes scooting across the water getting towed by one energetic barra which towed him within range of my cameras so I positioned myself close enough but not so close I could cut over his lines and managed fo capture a few great leaps before Blake netted this beauty. The lesson I learnt this day was to trust what you see on the sounder and keep casting because they will eventually hit the lure. See more

02.01.2022 So the first task for me with the Hobie Revo 16 was to find out how it handles the surf...this little clip is from the first paddle I had in it to see if it could be a possible beach launch option for me here on the sunshine coast, Australia. I left the pedal drive in the car for this one as I did not want to break it on the sandbars. Full vid from this first trial coming up on my channel here, appreciate your subscription and you will be notified when the review is up https://www.youtube.com/c/PaddleGuy1

02.01.2022 Just when I thought I could relax and let the Bixpy take me out behind...nope not yet! And this was a small day, on a big surf day here there is no taking in the scenery till your far far out back #getoutback #kayakfishing #sunshinecoast @bixpy @bixpy_australia @vikingkayaks

02.01.2022 Rod storage solution for surf transitions on the Revo 16 was as simple as a couple of @railblaza G-Holds - Just gotta make sure I dont jump off on that side #railblaza #holdeverything #hobiekayakfishing

02.01.2022 Teaching the next generation of offshore kayak anglers - The little Viking Ozzie is perfect for this job, stable, tracks well and plenty of rocker to help avoid the nose diving, pretty much either goes straight or turns side on for the brace..rated to 120kgs so its also alot of fun for adults too

02.01.2022 No one told me their spikes sting like a flathead ! So I am no Bass expert but from what I seen this be how you hold the little guys right ? Moved to a different section of the river and after no interest in the finesse frogz changed to the 2" GrubZ which got the attention of a few smaller locals@ #zmanfishing #grubz #ifishzman #elaztech #10xtough #australianbass

01.01.2022 Surf Tip - This one is a fundamental for getting through any wave so I hope the demonstration helps but please read before watching I have a few more tips like this coming. Power on vs Power off. 1st - How Not To Approach A Wave... I see even experienced beach launch anglers get this little thing wrong, poss due to learning a bad habit that was never corrected. Basically if you paddle into oncoming waves then stop paddling (usually lifting the paddle over your head as demonstrated in this video seemingly in an attempt to keep the paddle from being knocked out of the hands ) - you lose all forward momentum and firstly risk the wave pushing you backwards which ends as it does in the first clip. If you get over the wave without to much mischief you still have slowed forward momentum putting you at greater risk of being in the wrong place for the next wave. How To Approach A Wave Once you have committed you must continue to paddle forward as that wave gets to you. This powerful forward stroke will help get you through the wave and keep the forward momentum so you can get over the next set. By timing your stroke so that your planting a paddle blade into the wave as you hit it you will create an anchor to either leverage you forward or brace as the wave tries to push you back which in essence becomes a break creating resistance so long as you keep the paddle planted firmly into the wave. Practising this will make more sense if you have not experience it yet. The last little tip on that forward stroke to protect your face from copping a wall of water which blinds you for a moment which can result in you not reacting to the wave behind in time as you cannot see it. You will see in the power on demonstration I cross the upper forearm across my face and dip the head. The forearm takes the initial part of the wave and breaks the wall of water so the moment you lift your head as you come through you see clearly whats coming next and or are in a position to react to whats going on if you are being pushed back by the wave. Hope that all makes sense, please dont hesitate to ask any questions. The kayak is the Viking Espri which is great to learn in. Camera angles are from the Railblaza camera booms.
