24.01.2022 The count down to the 2019 QLD School Kayak Championships has begun. We have 2 months to prepare. Usually a fairly recreational group of paddlers, we are now focusing on gaining some endurance for the 6km marathon and fine tuning our race starts for the 300m sprint. We will have the home advantage as this year the Champs will be on our own Coomera Lake.

23.01.2022 2019 Paddle QLD School Kayaking Championships. Coomera Lake 19/10/19 Saint Stephens College Students picked up 10 medals today. We had a mixture of weather from glassy smooth and sunny to stormy raining and windy - but that didn’t deter anyone from giving it their bet shot. Plus I think we had a little bit of home advantage - being our lake we are conditioned to her moods. Although Rhys and Artem didn’t take home medals they both placed very a respectable 4th in both their... events. Rhys was sporting an injury and could have easily given up, but he didn’t. Artem is only very new to the squad/kayaking it was simply great to see him turn up and give his best. Paddler/Most Outstanding Performance of the day undoubtedly has to go to Sam in her TK1 300m race !!! Watching her made me really proud. Sam gave it everything she had right to the last stroke. She had nothing left in the fuel tank as she crossed the finish line. It was a super effort. The little wave she gave at the finish made us all smile. Well done to everyone day. Thank you to the parents who showed up to support the team, Calvin for carrying kayaks back and forth from the shed and cooking everyone a wonderful BBQ lunch and of course Karen my wing lady who gets the jobs done while making it fun. Saint Stephens Kayak Team you all did an incredible job today. We have a lot of fun in training and I know racing was a little out of some of your comfort zones - but you did it and should all be very proud. 19.01.2022 8 Paddlers off scratch (zero) for this mornings CCPC monthly handicap race.

17.01.2022 This afternoon we ventured out onto the Coomera River. It was a VERY low tide. So up the little inlet behind the school became an obstacle course. We hard to keep a eye out for submerged objects just below the waters surface and doing the limbo a few times under fallen trees which I think we normally paddle over.... I’ve never seen the tide so low. But we had an adventure which was fun and that’s the most important thing

15.01.2022 So sad to hear/see the Nymboida Canoe Centre burning. I hope everyone is safe down there and not too many homes are lost.

13.01.2022 School Kayaking groups for 2019 are done! 2019 has skipped along so fast!!! Today at Saint Stephens College we had the annual end of year maintenance/cleaning day of the kayaks and gear, followed by hot chips. In recognition of Miss Innes and Mr Van helping in run the program I gave them each a kayak mug with kayaking photos from the past year on them. I also awarded Sam a mug as the stand out kayaker of the year - she really impressed me at the State Champs with how she gave everything right till the last stroke. Today Jaspher my dog came along to meet the students. He got lots of pats and love. It’s been another great year!!

02.01.2022 I got the idea of this tricky task off the television show Survivor. Teams had to attach themselves to the rope and follow it along. The rope looped around and through trees. At the same time they had to protect their cups of coloured water
