23.01.2022 HUGE TURNOUT at the LiveLighter The Ramon! - Paddle WA Newsletter - https://mailchi.mp/36b8babb4c7b/welcome-to-paddle-wa-2423316

23.01.2022 The Avon Descent race has been run by the Northam Avon Descent Association (NADA) and for the first time since 1973, the event was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. NADA is an association in its own right, consisting of a board and sub-committees, its own constitution and rules of the race, and has the same governance requirements as any other association in Western Australia. It has always been heavily funded by the State Government with other funds coming from entr...y fees and sponsorship, although there has not been a prominent sponsor for many years apart from Government sponsorship. Following the recent paddlers forum held at Ascot a week ago, a survey based on points raised at the forum has been created for all paddlers to respond to. We encourage you and your fellow paddlers to complete this survey so that PWA can discuss thoughts of paddlers towards the Avon Descent race with NADA. https://forms.gle/8b98eB33j1bA6v2z7

Paddle Australia have generously offered members a 25% discount on the state component of their membership fee for the year due to the impact that COVID-19 had on everybody's freedom to paddle. Paddle Australia also created the Paddle On Foundation in June, with the aim of providing financial assistance to any club member in Australia who needs sup...port. Members even have the option to donate their 25% membership discount to the Paddle On Foundation, so please consider a donation to help out our fellow paddling community! Memberships will expire on the 30th of September 2020 and reminder emails will be sent out leading up to this date.

22.01.2022 Last month, Paddle WA had the opportunity to deliver a series of paddling lessons to 50 high school students in Kununurra as part of the Move it Aus program Paddle Oz! Move It Aus is an initiative from Sport Australia to encourage inactive Australians to become more active, more often. Paddle Australia created the Paddle Oz program to teach high school-aged children from rural and remote areas the basics of paddling, all of which is completely funded by Sport Australia! Pad...dle WA Executive Officer Rosalie Evans and Education Officer Leonie Cockman spent a week teaching these kids how to paddle on the stunning Lake Argyle. They also ran a PAQS Flatwater Guide and Instructor qualification course for 8 teachers, meaning that the students can continue learning to paddle! A big thank you goes to Claire Piesse and Glenn Taylor from Kununurra, Roz Manester and Mark Thurgood from Paddle Australia, and to Sports Australia for funding this unique and incredible program! 14.01.2022 Please take care to reduce your risk of acquiring Ross River Virus whilst out on the water. Take some of these preventative measures to reduce the chance of a mosquito bite: - wearing mosquito repellant spray (Off, Aeroguard etc.) - wearing long sleeve garments (thick where applicable)... - wearing a hat to protect your scalp - wearing a spray deck to cover your legs The current risk of acquiring RRV is highest in the South West of WA, and along the coastal Midwest and Gascoyne regions, from Jurien Bay to Denham. Please take special care when paddling in these areas.
